A top call of 6200gns was achieved for a two-year-old heifer at the North of England Beef Shorthorn Club’s sale at Skipton.

The sale, which attracted a catalogued entry of 24 head was topped by Sandwick Flossy Mocha, a two-year-old dark roan heifer from Andrew and Caroline Ivinson’s Sandwick herd, from Townhead, Ousby.

Flossy Mocha, a daughter of the Glenisla Excalibur son, Glenisla Jack Frost – which has been used successfully for the past four years and whose own sons have sold to 9000gns – is the first female sold from the Engineer of Upsall-sired cow, Sandwick Flossy Koffee.

She sold as served mid-September to Highlee Nelson and was knocked down to Duncan and Mary MacGregor, for their Red Hazel pedigree herd established in 2016 and based in Great Witchingham, Norwich.

Second top price was 5800gns paid for a female from Caitrina Ward’s 20-cow Kimrina herd, from Low Brock Rigg, Glaisdale. Gerald Turton’s Upsall herd, from The Grange, Thirsk, had 12 cattle forward brought out by stockman, George McCulloch. These sold to 3900gns for the dark roan Nonpareil X1357 of Upsall – one of August, 2018-born twins by the Belmore Patriach son, Grenadier of Upsall.
