John Elliot, Kelso, came home in style from Alan and Lorna Jackson's pedigree Suffolk flock sale from Rugley, Alnwick, at Carlisle, having purchased three of the top five highest priced lots.

The sale from the couple who are retiring from farming, while the tenancy at Rugley is taken over by daughter Lucy who has retained 12 ewes, was topped at 2600gns by a gimmer by Midhope Alfie. She is bred from a ewe by Rugley Terrific and sold due to Sitlow All Gold, to Mr Elliot.

Mr Elliot also went to 2400gns and 1700gns for gimmers by Sitlow All Gold and in lamb to Midhope Alfie. Both are bred from Drinkstone Dionysus Rugley daughters.

Kelso producers, Messrs Thomson, were also big buyers forking out 2000gns and 1700gns. The former is by Sitlow All Gold, bred from a Rugley Warrior-sired ewe and sold served to Alfie, while the latter, by Alfie, sold due to All Gold.

Berkshire breeders, Messrs Taylor, Theale, Reading, also bought several of the lead priced lots going to 1800gns, 1400gns and 1300gns for in-lamb gimmers by Alfie, All Gold and Sitlow Awesome, respectively.

Later, Messrs Watson, Sandwith, Whitehaven, bought a Rugley Terrific-sired gimmer due to All Gold at 1450gns.

Two realised 1250gns with the first being a gimmer daughter of Sitlow Awesome due to All Gold. She was knocked down to Messrs Patterson and Son, Capheaton, Newcastle Upon Tyne.

Matching that price was a triplet-born gimmer by All Gold, due to Midhope Alfie, purchased by Messrs Eccles, Pathhead, Midlothian.
