Dumfriesshire breeders, Joyce and Neil Millar provided the star attraction at a Zwartbles female sale at Borderway Mart, Carlisle, selling the top priced lot at 1400gns.

The duo who run the Joyfield flock based at Woodhouse Mains, Kirtlebridge, Lockerbie, received this money for Joyfield Game Changer, a gimmer by Janetstown Fusion, bred from the Bessiebell Dumbledore-sired Joyfeild Emzzz. She sold served to Aquila Grand Slam, the first prize ram lamb, and reserve male champion at last year's Royal Highland Show, down to Denbighshire, with Messrs Bullen, Tremeirchion, St Asaph.

Joyfield Holly, a ewe lamb from the same home, also made her mark, selling for 900gns to Messrs Beckwith, Gargrave, Skipton. Backed by the best of breeding, this January 2020-born lamb, is by Millburn Sam, a 12-year-old ram that has bred gimmers to 2000gns twice, and ewe lambs to 1400gns twice, and out of Joyfield Flo Rida, a daughter of the 2017 Great Yorkshire male champion, Aquila Eutopia.

Another heading south at 1200gns with Messrs Kimber, Merton, Okehampton, Devon, was P and S Addison's Hayberries Humdinger, from Mickleton, Barnard Castle. This triplet-born ewe lamb by Stewarton Fantastic – the Northern Branch champion – is out of Broomfield Beauty, by Broomfield Trickster. Humdinger is also a half sister to two former reserve champion winners at the Great Yorkshire.

Selling up to Ross-shire with Messrs Bissett, Dingwall at 1000gns was Clarewood Gooseberry, a gimmer by the Cynefin Arwel-sired, Clarewood Don, from Lancs breeders, Thomas and Charlotte Critchley, Mercer, Hutton, Preston. Bred from the Stainmore Cracker daughter, Pendle Double Trouble, she sold carrying a pair of lambs to Top Notch Gladiator.

The Critchleys also took 850gns for Clarewood Gertrude, which also sold due with a pair to Top Notch Gladiator. The breeding behind this transaction includes Wallacetown Fulmar, onto Clarewood Eden, a Wallridge Moor Corder-sired ewe. The buyers were Messrs Bower, Bridgenorth, Shropshire.

Co Durham breeders, L and F Brown, Mount Pleasant Farm, Bowes, also sold a ewe lamb at 900gns when Stainmore Hot Stuff, a Wallacetown Ego daughter, was knocked down to Messres Kestell, Badgall, Launceston, Cornwall. Her dam is Stainmore Damsel, by Wallacetown Carbon.

Just behind, on 850gns, local breeders, Messrs Armstrong, Armathwaite, bought Liverton Gerainiam, a gimmer by Holmlea Dinado, from J and A Stevenosn, Blue House Farm, Liverton. Her dam is Liverton Donna, by the home-bred Barney. Gerainiam sold carrying a single lamb to Shell Fahrenheit.
