Bulls from David Thornley's Dooley herd from Hartshorne, Derbyshire, proved the star attraction at a Charolais Society sale at Welshpool, securing the top two prices at 6000gns and 5200gns.

Sale leader was the 15-month-old, Dooley Pringo, a son of the 31,000gns Whitecliffe Highlight, bred from the Blelack Digger daughter, Balnuith Honesty. He sold to H Edwards, A’I Gwmni, Bwlch-Y-Mawn, Corwen.

Selling for 5200gns to DJ Cleland, Glebe Farm, Dinedor, Hereford, was Dooley Polo. This 14-month-old is a son of Balmyle Nathan, out of Dooley Jazzy, by the 15,000gns Goldies Dynamite.

Another from the Dooley stable made 4800gns. Dooley Purdy, bred the same way as Pringo, caught the eye of Meistri Williams, Parcybryncelyn, Ynys Mon.

Three bulls went under the hammer at 5000gns, to include Wissington Philippo, a 19-month-old from Essex breeder, Mrs J Rix, Wissington Grove. Philippo, is by Davally Igolo, out of the Goldies Cassanova daughter, Wissington Hazel and sold to P Edwards and Co, Tredomen, Mid Glamorgan.

At the same price was Esgob Prince, from GM Jones, Gwynedd. An 18-month-old son of the 12,000gns Caylers Hustler, out of a Anside Excalibur daughter Esgob Hiphop, Prince headed home with AC and DT Hughes, Brychyni, Pwllheli, Gwynedd.

The last of the 5000gns bids came from I Davies, Bedlwyn, Tredegyr Newydd, who bought Belan Persistance, a similarly aged bull by Tweeddale Marcus from JS Abel, Hendreaur, Cwmbelan, Powys. His dam is Belan Lily, a daughter of the 18,000gns bull Thrunton Fairfax.
