Top price per head at United Auctions' sale of 639 store cattle, 190 OTM and 55 rearing cattle was £1470, paid for a 730kg Simmental cross bullock from Elmscleugh.

Lead price per kg was 270.80p paid for a 280kg Limousin cross bullock from High Flat.

Overall, 304 bullocks averaged 215.71p per kg, with 270 heifers at 209.06p and 65 dairy bullocks at 173.82p.

Heifers sold to 244.30p for a 352kg Charolais cross from Ashmark, or £1330 per head for a 582kg Limousin cross from Norrieston.

Dairy bullocks were topped at 200.20p per kg and £885 for a 442kg Montbeliarde cross from Meikle Camoquhill, with the 10 young bulls which averaged 200.92p, hitting a top of 236.50p for a Limousin cross from Howgillside, and to £1020 for an Angus cross from Lochmalony.

Beef cows and bulls averaged 121.92p, having sold to 186.60p per kg for a Limousin cross from High Flat, and to £1450 for a Charolais cross from Todpark.

Montbeliarde crosses from Meikle Camoquhill, led the 16 dairy cows which averaged 109.07p, selling at 163p per kg and £965 per head.

And, Aberdeen Angus cross bulls from Clayland Farmers topped the rearing cattle at £520 with milk calves peaking at £400 for a Limousin cross bullock from The Marks.

Carlisle

Limousin bullocks from Messrs Stamper, Rose Farm, Cockermouth, led the way at Harrison and Hetherington's sale of 300 store cattle, attracting the top two prices at £1560, £1500.

Heifers were topped at £1380 by Charolais heifers from Gretna House Farms who sold eight at £1293.75.

Weaned cattle were easier on the week, selling to £1060 for a Limousin bull from Messrs Reay, West Moorhouses, Maften. Aberdeenshire producer, Harry Emslie's run of young Limousin cross bulls from Kinknockie sold to £1040.

On Monday, the firm's store sheep was again sharper on the week, selling to £116 and £108 for Beltex crosses from Messrs Faulder, Ewan Close, Armathwaite.

Bullocks averaged 218.08p per kg and heifers at 227.12p, at Harrison and Hetherington's fortnightly sale of suckled calves and store cattle.

Aberdeen Angus bullocks from Messrs Connon, Greenknowe, topped the trade per head at £1160, while Limousin cross heifers from Messrs Rutter, Greenhead, produced the lead price per kg at 263p.

Store lambs met the strongest trade of the season selling to £89 for Texels from North Synton, to average £73.43.

All classes of cattle improved on the week at Hope's Auctioneers' sale of 217 store cattle, which averaged £1046 per head.

A Limousin cross bullock from BJ Harrison, Beck Farm, topped the sale at £1435, while heifers sold to £1335 on two occasions for Charolais and Simmental entries from DA Harrison and Co, Hill House.

Dairy-bred enties were topped at £1165 by Friesian bullocks from Messrs Hodgson, Drumburgh Castle Farming, and a 15-month-old Blonde from JJ and EG Hill, Wolsty, led the bulls at £1085.

Top price amongst the weaned calves was £815 for a Charolais cross bullock from T Hornsby, Rose Farm.

Lanark

Lambs were dearer on the week at Lawrie and Symington's sale of 747 lambs and feeding ewes, which sold to £100 for Beltex from the Gair.

On Tuesday, the firm's fortnightly sale of store cattle attracted an entry of 358 head and a top price of £1238 per head for Limousin heifers from Burnetland.

Limousins also produced the lead price per kg, when bullocks from Turdess made 235.1p.

Bullocks sold to £1200 for Aberdeen-Angus from Bagmoors to average 215.1p, while heifers peaked at 234.6p for Charolais from Mossplatt, to level at 208.9p/kg.

British Friesians from Parklea led the dairy bullocks, which averaged 160.9p per kg, at £945.

Averages improved on the week at Aberdeen and Northern Marts' sale of 687 store, young and weaned calves at Thainstone, which also sold 163 head of breeding cattle

Bullocks averaged 223.5p per kg (+1p) having sold to 288.3p for 274kg Limousins from Balnaboth Home Farm, Glenprosen and £1400 per head for 674kg Charolais from Greenfold, Bridge of Marnoch.

Heifers were topped at 275.9p for a 348kg Simmental from Upper Forgie, Keith and £1350 for a 676kg Charolais from Gellan Farms, Aboyne. They averaged 218.1p (+2p).

Bulls sold to 242.7p per kg for a 342kg Aberdeen Angus from Auchtertyre, Pluscarden and £1000 for a 530kg Limousin from Greenbrae, Auchterless.

Simmental cross heifers led the breeding cattle which hit a top of £2550 for an entry with bull calf at foot from South Blachrie, Fyvie. In-calf entries sold to £2250 for a spring-calver from Auchoille, Crathes.

Numbers were well short of requirements at the firm's sale of store and breeding sheep on Tuesday which saw 1134 head sold to include Island consignments.

Store lambs sold to £90 for Beltex from Bogharvey, Turriff, to average £65.81 with Island lambs cashing in at £56.77 from a top price of £86 for Texels from Quoybelloch, Deerness.

Best store lambs regularly sold from £80-£84 with long keep lambs also up on the week.

A Charollais shearling ram from Newton of Crathie, Ballater, topped the breeding sheep at £200.

The former sold to £1340 for a 582kg entry from JS and HM Hamilton, Gorn, Harray and to 242.1p per kg for 318kg bullocks from E Hourston, Mucklehouse, Swannay.

Heifers sold to £1185 gross for a 542kg female and 227p per kg for two 478kg Limousins from JS and HM Hamilton, Gorn.

Breeding cattle hit a top of £2050 for a pair of Simmental in-calf heifers from R Stevenson and Co, Bu, Rothiesholm.

Hexham

More than half the catalogued entry of 403 head were native-bred cattle at Hexham and Northern Marts' recent store cattle, where all classes were noticeably dearer on the week.

Top price overall was £1425 paid for a 19-month-old three-quarter-bred black Limousin cross bullock from Geoff Ogle, Blackburn, Slaley.

Heifers sold to £1390 for an OTM black and white Angus cross from Simon and Andrew Hall, East Butsfield.

No fewer than 117 Angus and Angus cross cattle sold to average £1017.

Yearling-type and mid-age range continental cross cattle peaked at £1270 for a Charolais cross steer from Gallowhill, Whalton, with heifers in the same age bracket selling to £1060 for a Limousin from David Dixon, Middleheads, Consett, Co Durham.

Cast and store sheep were also dearer on the week with ewes peaking at £146 for a Texel from JA Sowerby, Amos Hill. Tups sold to £134 twice – for a Texel from DJ and W Sedgewick, Errington Red House and for a Bluefaced Leicester from Messrs Lee, Hackford.

The store entry of 4380 peaked at £140 for seven Beltex cross lambs donated by the Dodd Family, Delight Farm, with all proceeds gifted to Hexham Hospital's oncology department.

The same price was also achieved by two pens from Philip and Beverley Robson, Middle Horsleyhope.

By the end of the day, more than 30 pens sold for more than £100 per head, with long keep Swaledale lambs averaging £52.75, the best Beltex crosses averaged £102.67 for 215, and Dutch Texel crosses levelled at £90.34 for 115. The main run of Blackface lambs sold between £58-£66.

Two British Blue and Limousin cross heifers from Messrs Metcalfe, Home Farm, topped Penrith and District Farmers' Mart's sale of 305 store cattle, selling for £1375 each.

The two 16-month-old entries were part of a consignment of 30 similarly aged bullocks and heifers from Home Farm which averaged £1162.

Darlington

A 25-month-old Limousin bull topped Darlington Farmers Auction Mart's store sale on Monday selling for £1360, while steers and heifers peaked at £1175 and £1210, respectively.

The bull from J Skidmore and Co, North Hangingwells, was followed by two-year-old Hererford steers from D Black, Whitehall Farm, Rowley, making £1175. Heifers were led by a Charolais from M Hare, Saltburn, selling for £1210.

The sale of 2211 store lambs was topped at £99 by Beltex from RW Dalton, Romaldkirk.

Limousins secured three of the top four prices at Lawrie and Symington's sale of 197 store cattle on Tuesday.

Top price per head was £1290 paid for four 560kg stots from TM and R Wilson, Wairds of Alpity. A 360kg stot from Meikle Coull, topped the pence per kg at 261p. Overall bullocks averaged 230p.

Leading the gross trade amongst the heifers at £1240 was a 560kg entry from W McLaren, Muirhouses, while a 312kg Simmental cross from TM Strang and Co, Balcalk, made 256p per kg. Heifers averaged 224p.

Lincoln Reds from A Mylius and Partners, St Fort, led the young bulls at £890 for a 390kg entry, or 296p for a pen of seven 277kg animals. They averaged 257p.

The 651 store sheep sold to £83 for Texel lambs from Ejay.
