Some 1301 prime and cast sheep sold at Craig Wilson's sale, where lambs sold dearer on the week to average 205.3p with a top price of £100 for Texels from RM Jamieson, Garrochtrie and from W and S Kerr, High Borland. Top price per kg was 230.8p for Beltex from J McHarrie, Duchra.

Blackface lambs sold to £87.50 from Drannandow Farms and to 212.5p from CS McClymont, Cuil, while cast sheep reached £98 for Texel crosses from High Borland.

Forfar

Limousins topped Lawrie and Symington's primestock sale where bullocks achieved 261p per kg and £1524.24 for a 584kg entry from Nethermyres, to average 227p, while heifers sold to 267p and £1567.29 for a 587 kg animal from Gask, to level at 242p.

Lambs sold to a top of 234p and £110 for a pen of 47kg Texels from Mains of Dalrulzion, to cash in at 207p.

The same home also topped the cast ewe sale at £140 again with Texels. Ewes averaged £82.

Dumfries

At C and D Auction Marts’ sale, cattle sold to 240p from J Jardine, Yett, while 42 OTM's achieved £1139.20 for a Limousin from Lantonside or 142 for a Simmental from the same home.

The 792 prime lambs attained a top of £102 on three occasions for Texels from Terreglestown or 242p for more of the same from Over Abington, to level at 214.2p.

Huntly

United Auctions’ sold 1031 prime lambs to average 196.03p with a top price of 233p for 43.5kg Beltex from Craigiebank, Keith and £105 for 48kg Beltex from Craigiebank, Keith.

Ewes sold to a top of £130 for Suffolks from Cranna Bridge.

Stirling (Cale)

A buoyant trade was witnessed at Caledonian Marts' primestock sale where heifers averaged 235p with a top price of 262p per kg paid for a Limousin heifer from W Dandie and Sons, Learielaw, Broxburn or £1670 for a similarly bred animal from D Dickinson, Brockwoodlees, Canonbie.

Limousins also proved popular amongst the bullocks which sold to 260ppkg for an entry from Brockwoodlees, or £1520 for another of the same from AA and J Brand, Nethermyres, Auchtermuchty. They averaged 211p.

The 30plus young bulls peaked at 200p for an Aberdeen Angus cross from WJ Ramsay, Inshanks, Drummore and to £1415 for a Limousin from JR MacGregor, Dyke, Milton of Campsie.

OTM's averaged 117p and attained 169p for a Limousin cow from W Dick and Sons, Mains of Throsk, Throsk and to £1290 for a Limousin from R Graham, Airthrey Kerse, Bridge of Allan.

OTM bulls sold to £1360 for a Limousin from AM Duncan, Easter Dullatur or 147p for a Friesian from W and M Wylie, Broompark, Torphichen.

Top price amongst the young calves was £500 from Messrs Aitken, Wester Whitefield, Dunfermline on two occasions for a British Blue bullock and a British Blue heifer.

The firm's sale of store lambs on Tuesday peaked at £121 and 275p for a 44kg Texel from RA Campbell and Sons, Meikle Seggie, Milnathort, while cast sheep sold to £165 for a pen of Texel ewes from WM Bell and Son, Craigend, Perth, to average £105.30.

Wooler

Harrison and Hetherington’s weekly sale included 1174 sheep comprising of 804 lambs and 370 cast ewes and rams.

Lambs averaged 199p per kg having sold to £100 for Texels from Newham Hagg and 243p per kg for Beltex from Matfen Home Farms.

Texels also led the cast ewe trade at £129 from North Swinhoe.

Stirling (UA)

Some 6984 head of prime sheep were sold through United Auctions, where lambs (5681) were topped at £128 for Texels from Cairn and 261p for Beltex from Strageath Hall, to average 205.45p.

Ewes (1303) sold to a top price of £150 per head for Suffolks from Little Blairquhomrie, while the ram trade was led by Texels from Nicoll Drive at £112.

Thainstone

A buoyant trade was seen at Aberdeen and Northern Marts' primestock sale, where bullocks averaged 193.6p having sold to 222p for a 45kg Limousin cross from Whiteside, Tullynessle or £1477 for a 700kg Aberdeen Angus cross from Birkenbower, Lumsden.

Limousin crosses led the heifers, where trade cashed in at 211.9p having peaked at 235p for a 550kg animal from Whiteside or £1540.70 for a 710kg entry from Waterside, Forbes.

Beef cows cashed in at 130.8p and attained 177.3p for a 612kg Limousin cross from Thirdpart, Watten and £1450 for a 1000kg Limousin from Buchaam Farm, Strathdon.

Texels proved popular amongst the lambs which averaged 194.7p. Top price was 255p per kg for 40kg lambs from Milton of Durris, Durris and £130 for 71kg Texels from Oldtown, Peterculter.

Feeding ewes and rams sold to £150 for Texels from Oldtown.

Longtown

At C and D Auction Marts’ sale, the 4489 prime lambs were topped at 345p for a pen of five Beltex lambs from DS and RC Taylor, Easter Ochtermuthill, Crieff, who also topped the price per head at £139 – for a pen of 10, 45kg Beltex lambs and again for six 42kg Beltex. Lambs averaged 210.5p.

The smaller entry of 2736 ewes sold to £179 for Texels from J and C Hastings, Kilncroft, Dumfries, while cast rams peaked at £190 for a Texel from M Watson, Fingland, Kirkbride.

St Boswell

On Monday, Harrison and Hetherington’s sale saw bullocks (25) and heifers (44) average 221.26p per kg and 231.13p respectively.

Clean cattle sold to £1510 from Lurdenlaw and 256p per kg from Penston, whilst cast entries peaked at £1306.98 from Rumbleton and to 173p per kg from Upper Samieston.

Prime lambs (1590) sold to £120 for a Texel from Mainside and 296.1p for Beltex from Huntington, to level at 207.4p.

The 866 cast ewes cashed in at £64.57 having sold to a top of £125 for Suffolks from Trows.

Lanark

Some 59 bullocks and heifers and 73 cast cows and bulls were forward for Lawrie and Symington’s sale, on Monday.

Heifers sold to 260p and £1548 from Messrs Dickinson, Brockwoodlees Farm, Canonbie, while bullocks achieved 252p and £1643 again from Brockwoodlees Farm.

Calves peaked at £350 for a Belgium Blue heifer from Gartclush.

Stirks were topped at £420 for a Friesian from Letham, while dairy bulls sold to a top of £95 from Goslington.

The 3513 prime lambs attained a top of £128 for Texels from Clark Farms, Blackhill and to 304p for Beltex from Messrs Walker, High Parks, to average 219p with an SQQ of 223p.

A strong entry of 2322 cast ewes and rams reached £158 for Texels from Messrs Scott, Muirhead and to £67 for Blackface from Freeland-Cook, Cliftoncote.

Carlisle

Sellers enjoyed a buoyant trade at Harrison and Hetherington's primestock sale where a Limousin cross steer led the bullocks at £1650.66 for Messrs Dixon, Low Whinnow, Carlisle or 237.5p from Messrs Telfer, Newton High House, Hexham for another Limousin cross.

Heifers sold to £1492.40 and 233.5p for another of the same from Messrs Dent, Elm House, Appleby.

The 324 cast cows and stock bulls saw Messrs Taylor, Heatheryhall Farm top the trade with a Limousin cross cow attaining 196.5p and £1516.

The firm also sold 2650 prime lambs to average 210.7p with a top price of £130 achieved for a Beltex cross lamb from S Wilson, Corby Hill or 320p again paid for Beltex lambs this time from WL Musgrave and Sons, Cardew Hall, Dalston.

Cast sheep witnessed a top of £110 on two occasions, firstly for a Suffolk from Messrs Chalmers, Outer Woodhead and secondly for two Texel ewes from Messrs Musgrave, Cardew Hall. Rams were topped at £105 for a Leicester from Messrs Thompson, East Unthank.

Ayr

Limousin cross heifers were keenly bid on at Craig Wilson Marts' primestock sale, which averaged 231.1p and peaked at 250p and for an entry from C Smith, North Boig and £1080 for a Salers cross from Rottenyard.

Steers sold to 225p for a Limousin cross from A Wilson, Carskerdo and to £1358 for an Aberdeen Angus from C Cochrane, Heighton, to level at 201.6p.

Cast cattle reached £1350 for a Limousin bull from E Cook, Glendoune, while beef cows sold to £1280 for a Limousin cross from A Currie, Fisherton.

The sale of prime lambs the previous day averaged 209.4p, with a top price of £109 paid two occasions, firstly for a pair of Beltex off Laura Young, Lochhill Farm, New Cumnock and then for a pen from Kilkeran Estate or to 254.8p for a pen off Jim Kennedy, Lyonston Farm.

A pure Texel ewe from George Gatherer, Fairlynne Farm led the cast ewe trade at £150.

Dingwall

Dingwall and Highland Marts sold 28 prime cattle, where bullocks averaged 237.5p and sold to 295.0p and £1652.00 for a 560kg Limousin cross from Invercharron, Ardgay.

The heifers cashed in at 230.4p and peaked to 310.0p and £1813.50 for a 585kg Limousin cross from Mountrich Farm, Dingwall.

New season lambs averaged 195.2p and attained 282.6p and £130 for a pen of 46kg Beltex crosses from Torgorm, while feeding sheep sold to £150 for a Suffolk ram from 9 Wester Muckernich, Tore.

Castle Douglas

On Tuesday, Wallets Marts sold 1626 prime lambs to average 213.4p and peak to £130 and 301p for a Texel from Fagra, while 307 cast sheep attained £105 for a Texel ram from Kenmure, Dunscore, with ewes to £115 for Texels from Torhousekie.

Penrith

On Monday, Penrith and District Farmers’ Mart held their fortnightly sale of primestock, where prime cattle were topped at 216.5p and £1389.93 for an OTM heifer from D Raine, Old Parks.

Prime bulls sold to £1389.93 or 215.5p for a Limousin from NW and E Mason and Son, High Green Farm, Carnforth.

Some 78 OTM's were led at 194.5p and £1369.28 for a seven-year-old Limousin cross cow from WM and JE Shuttleworth, Barbon Fell House, while Black and Whites made 153.5p or £1138.97 from Messrs Fisher, Yanwath Woodhouse.

Darlington

Darlington Farmers Auction Mart had forward 270 cattle and 1786 prime sheep at their weekly sale where bulls averaged 206p from a top price of 240p per kg for a Limousin from WI Suddes and Son, South Farm, Cornsay or £1926 for another from D Richardson and Co Ltd, Bracken House, Melsonby.

Heifers achieved 271p for a Limousin from I and A Hamilton or £1681 for another from TW Clark and Son, to level at 271p.

Lambs witnessed a buoyant trade peaking at 260p for Texels from TN Callender with cast ewes and rams selling to £128 for a Texel ram from JR and J Crowe, Bishops Close, Spennymoor.

Hawes

Hawes Farmers Auction Mart sold 1516 prime lambs, where Texels topped the trade at 244p per kg or £120 per head from JR and LA Capstick, Killington.

Bull calves achieved a top of £415 for a British Blue from JF Bowe and Son, Hawes, with heifers reaching £270 for more of the same from D Middleton and Son, Askrigg.
