Limousins topped Lawrie and Symington’s primestock sale, where bullocks sold to a top of 235p per kg and £1442.90 for a 614kg entry from Nethermyres, to average 227p per kg.

Amongst the heifers, prices peaked at 242p on two occasions, both for Limousins again from Nethermyres, to cash in at 229p.

Dumfries

At C and D Auction Marts’ sale, cattle attained a top of 250p per kg for a Limousin cross heifer from J Jardine, Yett.

Some 1261 prime lambs topped at £110 for Texels from Rigghead or to 268p for more of the same from Auchenfad, to level at 221.2p.

Huntly

United Auctions’ sold 2020 prime sheep, where prime lambs averaged 204p per kg and sold to a top of 233p per kg for 43kg Beltex from Seggiecrook, Grange and to £125 for 78kg Texels from Auchenbreddie, Insch.

Stirling (Cale)

A buoyant trade was witnessed at Caledonian Marts’ primestock sale where heifers sold to 248p per kg on three occasions for Limousins from J and J Wylie, Knockhouse, Crossford, and twice from D Dickinson, Brockwoodlees, Canonbie and to £1592 for a Limousin from D Dickinson, Brockwoodlees, Canonbie, to level at 229p .

A top of 245p was achieved in the bullocks for a Limousin from A Pettigrew, Faskine, Airdrie, and to £1539 for a Limousin again from Brockwoodlees, to cash in at 222p.

Stirling (UA)

Some 5227 head of prime sheep were sold through United Auctions, where lambs (3719) were topped at £131 and 289p per kg for Beltex from Coilavoulin, to average 213.54p per kg.

Ewes (1508) sold to £175 for Texels from Drimsynie Estate, while the ram trade was led by Texels from West Lethans at £136.

Thainstone

A cracking trade was witnessed at Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ primestock sale, where bullocks averaged 217.8p per kg and sold to 223p per kg for a 560kg Limousin cross from Whiteside, Tullynessl.

Top per head at £1501.20 was paid for a 695kg Aberdeen-Angus cross from Mains of Drumbreck, Udny.

Amongst the heifers, the sale levelled at 209.6p and peaked at 239p for a 550kg Limousin cross from Stoneyhill, Keith-Hall, and to £1399.65 for a 645kg Charolais cross from Clashendamer, Fordyce.

The firm also sold 1666 prime lambs to cash in at 196p with prices to 243.6p for 39kg Beltex from Tillyboy, Echt, and to £106 for 55kg Charollais from Mosshead, Whitehouse.

St Boswells

On Monday, Harrison and Hetherington’s sale saw bullocks (14) and heifers (46) average 214p per kg and 227p respectively.

Clean cattle sold to £1109.16 and 232p from Faughhill, whilst cast entries peaked at £1307.90 from Kersknowe and to 183p per kg from Commonside.

Prime lambs (2103) sold to £129 for a Texel from Hexpath, and to 283.6p for a Beltex from Crookston, to level at 207.4p.

Lanark

Limousin heifers led the way at Lawrie and Symington's weekly sale, topping at 256p per kg on two occasions both from Messrs Dickinson, Brockwoodlees.

More of the same sold to £1592 from Messrs Wilson, Carskerdo Farm, Cupar.

Limousins also dominated the bullocks when selling to 252p from Messrs Pettigrew, Faskine, Airdrie, and to £1635 from Messrs Dickinson, Brockwoodlees.

A large show of 4249 prime lambs topped at £124 twice for Texels from Barr Hallhill, and Beltex from Lambie, Drumbuie. Leading the pence per kg at 295p was Beltex from Hope Nether Skellyhill, to average 210p.

Ayr

A strong demand was met at Craig Wilson Marts’ where bullocks and heifers balanced out at 240.2p per kg and 233.9p respectively.

Limousin cross heifers sold to 260p per kg or £1495 from North Boig, while bullocks topped at 246p and £1433.25 for another of the same from Borland.

The firm also sold 2017 prime lambs to average 203.7p per kg and reached £110 on two occasions, firstly for Texels from Donald M Walker and Son, Laigh Alticane, and again for more of the same breed from M Stevenson, Balcaimie. Beltex from J and J McLeish, Back O’Hill, made 237.5p.

Dingwall

A 535kg Simmental cross heifer came out on top at Dingwall and Highland Marts sale selling to 218p per kg from Bridgend, Dingwall, and to £1363.20 for a 640kg Charolais cross from Easter Sheeppark, Balblair.

Heifers and bullocks averaged 212.3p per kg and 199.4p respectively.

Bullocks peaked at 209p or £1337.60 for a 640kg Hereford cross from Bridgend, Dingwall.

New season lambs cashed in at 199.4p per kg and sold to 222.5p for a 40kg Beltex cross from Dulsie, Glenferness, and to £98 for 45kg Beltex crosses from Torgorm, Conon Bridge.

Castle Douglas

On Tuesday, Beltex lambs dominated Wallets Marts primestock sale selling to £122 from Messrs McConnel, Gass, and to 310.5p per kg from Messrs Bunting, Bridgestone.

Lambs levelled at 209.3p.
