Carlisle

On Monday, Harrison and Hetherington held their first sale of store sheep which saw a small entry meet a buoyant trade throughout.

Topping the sale at £88 was pen of Texel hoggs from Messrs Wheatley and Son, Home Farm, Penrith.

Penrith

A Limousin cross bullock led the way at Penrith and District Farmers’ Mart LLP opening 2021 sale of 100 store cattle, selling to £1315 from Far Close Farm.

Heifers also sold well, with British Blue crosses selling to £1185 from the same home.

Ayr

Some 73 calves and stirks were forward for Craig Wilson's sale, where £440 was achieved on two occasions, firstly for an Aberdeen-Angus cross bull calf from C Shaw and Sons, East Montgarswood, and again for a Limousin cross from Robert C McCoull, Over Enoch.

Heifer calves attained £380 for a British Blue from J Paton and Son, Auchleand.

Breeding cattle sold to £1650 for an Aberdeen-Angus cross heifer with an Aberdeen-Angus calf at foot from John Richardson and Son, High Weirston.

Lanark

Lawrie and Symington sold 207 store cattle, where bullocks and heifers averaged 217.7p per kg and 209.2p respectively.

Bullocks reached £1350 for a Limousin from Birkhill, and to 247.6p per kg for Charolais from Calton.

Charolais topped both sections among the heifers, at £1200 from The Cleugh, and to 271.9p from Lawriesmuir.

Longtown

Store hoggs were in demand at C and D Auction Marts' sale of 3072 head of sheep which included cast ewes and rams, with lowland types averaging £96.51 per head.

Top price was £200 paid for a Beltex hogg donated to Cancer Research UK, from Robbie Muir, Tow Law.
