Carlisle

Harrison and Hetherington had forward 1094 cattle of various ages at their weekly sale, where store cattle sold to average of £1061.58, with bullocks levelling at £1102.56 and heifers at £1041.50.

Bullocks peaked at £1400, for a Limousin cross bullock from TB Stamper and Sons, Rose Farm, Cockermouth, with heifers selling to the same money for two Limousins from Bobby and Robert Marrs, Manor Farm, Wigton.

A Limousin bull led the weaned cattle at £1200 from Messrs Pattinson, Bonshawside.

Messrs Brown, Temple House, sold the lead priced weaned heifer at £960 for a Charolais cross, whilst steers realised £970 for Limousins from Burthwaite.

A larger entry of 302 calves was topped by a pair of British Blue steers from T and AW Wadsworth, Big Balcraig, Newton Stewart selling to £560 a piece, with the same home also topping the heifers with more of the same at £545.

On Monday, the firm held their weekly sale of store sheep, which was topped at £127 for Beltex from Messrs Hall, Horsleyhill.

Bullocks met astrong demand at United Auctions' sale of 989 store cattle, selling to 298.80p per kg for a 246kg Limousin cross from Eastmill, and to £1540 for a 732kg Aberdeen-Angus cross from Oatridge.

Bullocks (515) and heifers (385) averaged 229.47p and 222.26p respectively.

A 360kg Limousin cross topped the heifers at 277.80p from Little Spot, and to £1420 for a 704kg Simmental from Claysyke.

Young bulls levelled at 235.20p and sold to 270.60p for an Aberdeen-Angus cross from Cathpair, and to £1140 for a Simmental cross from East Merkland.

Almost 400 store and feeding sheep, sold to a top of £108 for Texels from Ardardan, with the breed averaging £95.26 (+£9.33 on the week). Cheviots levelled at £94.50 (+£22.55), whilst Mules hit £92.50 (+£8.16). Suffolk and Blackfaces balanced out at £90.43 (+£9.48) and £80.82 (+£10.01) respectively.

All classes were dearer on the week at Craig Wilson's sale of 573 store cattle, where bullocks and heifers averaged £1013.34 and £972.35 respectively.

A pair of Simmental cross bullocks led the trade at £1390 from Ravenslie, whilst Charolais bullocks hit 268.3p per kg from Annfield.

Heifers peaked at £1290 for a Limousin from Knockterra, and to 275p for more of the same from Fleminghill.

Aberdeen-Angus cross bullocks came out on top among the calves at £540 for J and GP McConnell, Hoodsyard, whilst heifers sold to £435 for a British Blue cross from Jack Craig and Co, Tannockhill.

Stirks were topped at £890 for a Charolais cross bullock from Milroy Brothers, Pinwherry Home Farm, whilst Shorthorn crosses led the way in the heifers at £740 from J and J Johnston, West Montgarswood.

A small selection of beef breeding cattle saw a Limousin cross heifer with a heifer calf at foot sell to £1720 from A Wardrop, Fore Rogerton.

The first in-lamb ewes of the year reached £140 on three occasions, firstly for Texel crosses from Daljedburgh, and again for two pens of Mule ewes from the same home.

Store hoggs peaked at £122 for Beltex from T Duffin, West Brockloch.

Aberdeen and Northern Marts sold 1051 store cattle, young bulls and young and weaned calves at their weekly sale, where bullocks (367) and heifers (381) cashed in at 242.6p per kg and 239.1p respectively.

Heifers topped the trade at 378.8p per kg for a 264kg Limousin from Eastside of Shevado, Maud, and £1510 for a pen of four 510kg Simmentals from Ardgathen Croft, Alford.

A 274 British Blue led the way in the bullocks selling to 317.5p from The Ess, Dalbuiack, and to £1485 for a 706kg Simmental from Blackhillock, Keith.

Bulls (30) sold to 240.1p for a pen of six 406kg Simmentals from South Auquhorthies, Oldmeldrum, and to £1290 for a 598kg Limousin from Aikers, Tankerness.

Store lambs once again increased in value, selling to £118 for Texel crosses from Ardhuncart, Kildrummy, to average £87.84.

Topping the sheep trade at £130 for Mule ewes from Whiteinches, Pitcaple, for breeding sheep to level at £124.92.

Island lambs (553) balanced out at £92.91 and sold to £114 for a pen of Charolais crosses from Braebuster, Deerness.

On Tuesday, the firm held their fortnightly sale of 648 store cattle, where bullocks and heifers averaged 231.5p per kg and 223.57p respectively.

Topping the trade at £1445 was a 662kg Limousin stot from Lochurd, or 270p per kg for Charolais from Thornyhills.

Heifers peaked at £1235 for a 542kg Limousin again from Lochurd, and to 252.6p for a 392kg Charolais from West Millrig.

Store hoggs sold to average £95.50, with 31 pens (178 hoggs) selling for more than £115.
