Some 821 hoggs were sold through Craig Wilson, to average 254.1p per kg with a top price per head of £120 paid for Texels from J McIntosh, Genoch Mains or 283.3p on two occasions for Beltex from Tormitchell Farms.

The 184 Blackface hoggs cashed in at 248.2p having peaked at £117 from A and F Baillie, Low Glasnick, or 261p per kg from Drannandow.

Cast sheep reached £125 for a Texel cross Suffolk tup from SL Dunlop, Bennan.

Forfar

Lawrie and Symington had forward 24 prime cattle and 395 prime and cast sheep, where four bullocks sold to 252p and £1554.84 for a 617kg British Blue from Nethermyres, to average 239p.

Nethermyres also topped the heifers at 259p with a 550kg Limousin, while top price per head was £1498.14 for a 609kg Blonde from Pityot. Heifers averaged 237p.

The 282 sold to 302p per kg and £133 for 44kg Beltex from Balbrydie, to balance out at 246p with an SQQ of 251p.

Dumfries

At C and D Auction Marts’ sale, cattle sold to 242p for a Limousin cross heifer from J Jardine, Yett or £1344 for another of the same from D and E Lockhart, Faulding Cleugh.

The 516 hoggs reached £140 for Texels from Wester Parkgate or 295p for similar animals from Kiraugh to level at 267.2p.

Texels led the 264 cast trade at £141.50 from Woodcroft, while rams peaked to £130 from Innerfield.

Huntly

United Auctions’ sale of 1720 prime sheep, saw 1139 prime hoggs average 254.24p per kg having sold to 266p for 39.5kg Cheviots from Durran Mains, Castletown, and to £132 for 59kg Charollais from Gowanbrae, Skye of Curr.

Ewes peaked at £178 for Texels from Midtown of Glass.

Stirling (Cale)

Trade remained buoyant at Caledonian Marts’ sale 68 clean cattle and 65 OTMs, where bullocks averaged 239p per kg having peaked at 248p twice for Limousins from M Orr, Penston, Macmerry and W Dandie and Sons, Learielaw, Broxburn or £1587 again from Learielaw.

Heifers cashed in at 227p selling to 260p for a Limousin from Learielaw, and to £1813 for a Limousin from D Dickinson, Brockwoodlees, Canonbie.

On Tuesday, 951 hoggs levelled at 267p with an SQQ of 270p. Top prices were £143 and 325p per kg for Texels from WM Bell, Craigend, Perth.

The 740 cast ewes averaged £101.26 and reached £137 for Texels from RM and CM Squair, Lower Killernie, Saline.

Wooler

Harrison and Hetherington sold 520 hoggs and 336 cast sheep at their sale, with the former selling to £134 for Beltex from South Rennington and 350p per kg for more of the same from Glanton Town, to average 250p.

Stirling (UA)

A larger show of 6457 head of prime sheep forward for United Auctions’ sale saw Beltex lead the 5018 hoggs at £155 from Cuiltburn or 367p per kg from Goddens. They averaged 259.02p.

Ewes (1438) sold to £138 for Texels from Dalchirla, while rams sold to £140 for a Texel from Allanfauld.

Thainstone

Heifers averaged 222.2p per kg at Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ sale of 40 prime cattle, having sold to 237p for a 575kg Limousin cross from Stoneyhill, Keith-Hall and £1491.60 for a 660kg Charolais cross from Hillocks, Whiterashes.

The 10 bullocks levelled at 219.4p and peaked at 229p twice for a 585kg Charolais cross from Hillside, Fetternear and a 595kg Limousin cross from Newton of Drum, Drumoak or £1395.15 for a Charolais cross from Newton of Drum.

Also sold were 2392 old season lambs which averaged 241.2p, with top prices of 290.7p for 43kg Texels from Gibston, Huntly and £129 for 51kg Texels from South Craighead, Skelmuir.

Longtown

Beltex topped C and D Auction Marts’ sale of 3769 prime hoggs, selling to 358p per kg for seven from S Cluckie, East Bar, Port William, or £145 per head from Messrs Mcarthur, Arnicle, Argyll. Hoggs averaged 257.6p with an SQQ of 273.7p.

St Boswell

At Harrison and Hetherington’s sale, bullocks (21) and heifers (65) averaged 219p per kg and 231p respectively having sold to £1576.44 and 261p from Bee Edge.

Cast entries peaked at £1484.52 from Birkenside and to 187p per kg from Rumbletonlaw.

Prime hoggs (931) sold to £146 for Texels from Crookston and 346.2p for Beltex from Wester Ulston, to level at 265p.

The 579 cast ewes cashed in at £106 having peaked to £139 for Texels from Sunnycroft.

Lanark

Some 37 bullocks and heifers and 77 cast cows were forward for Lawrie and Symington’s sale, where heifers sold to 268p from Messrs Dickinson, Brockwoodlees, Canonbie or to £1630 from Messrs Wainwright, Todhall, Cupar.

Bullocks hit 246p per kg from Messrs Struthers, Collielaw, or to £1524 from Messrs Pettigrew, Faskine.

The 2929 prime hoggs sold to £145 for a Texel from Messrs Struthers, Collielaw and to 346p for Beltex from Messrs Cunningham, Walkerdyke to average 267p with an SQQ of 270p.

The 1654 cast sheep were topped at £178 for Texels from Messrs Gibb, Toftcombs, while rams peaked to £120 from East Millrig.

Ayr

Limousins led Craig Wilson Marts’ sale of 130 prime and cast cattle, where heifers balanced out at 227.9p per kg having reached 252p on two occasions – from Burnockstone and Auchleach – or to £1464.10 for another of the same from Auchleach.

The four bullocks averaged 213.2p having peaked at 248p for a Charolais from Carskerdo or £1648.20 for a Limousin off Glendoune.

The 1479 prime hoggs levelled at 269.4p per kg selling to £134 for Beltex from Netherton or 320.5p for more of the same from Hill of Ochiltree.

Dingwall

Heifers sold to average 215.3p per kg at Dingwall and Highland Marts’ sale, selling to 226p for a 505kg Simmental cross from Bridgend Farm or to £1264.45 for a 605kg Aberdeen-Angus cross from the same home.

The 640 old season lambs cashed in at 264.7p and attained 280p for 42.5kg Beltex crosses and £124 for 45kg Beltex both from Torgorm, Conon Bridge.
