North Craven father and son team, Francis and Andrew Smith, bagged the cattle championship at Skipton Auction Mart’s February prime show with a Limousin cross.
Their champion, a 555kg bullock from Lodge Farm, Masongill, made 262.5p per kg or £1457, selling to Ralph Pearson, Wholesale Butchers.
Outwith the show, a top price per kg of 266.5p was paid for a 565kg British Blue cross heifer from Charles and Richard Kitching, Threshfield, or £1516 for a 620kg Limousin cross heifer from the Messrs Jowett, Queensbury.
The 23 cull cows averaged 112.87p having sold to £1040 or 140.5p for a black and white from M Ryder and Son, of Haverah Park, Harrogate.
Sheep judge, Mick Etherington, Eldwick, found his champion amongst the 2938 entries in a pen of 42kg Beltex hoggs from Hayley Baines, of Horton Green Farm, Gisburn, which later sold for £140.
Reserve was a pen of 48kg Beltex from Taylor Bros, Rathmell, that sold for the lead price of £158. The sale averaged 273.5p.
The entry of 672 feeding ewes and rams averaged £100 having sold to £151.50 for Texels from Faceby Hutchinsons.
