Store cattle met a buoyant demand at Harrison and Hetherington's fortnightly sale, where prices peaked at £1350 twice, firstly from RR Cramond, Springfield with an Aberdeen Angus cross steer and secondly from JA Riddell, Newstead with a Charolais cross heifer.

Topping the pence per kg section was Fawdon Farms with a pen of Charolais cross steers at 291.9p, with steers and heifers averaging in at 231.3p and 225.5p respectively.

A bumper trade was had at United Auctions' sale of 1174 store cattle, which incorporated the annual Aberfeldy sale; some 101 out of spec cattle, cast cows and bulls and 489 store sheep.

Bullocks averaged 249.82p having peaked at 314.10p for a 234kg Charolais cross from Taiglim or £1425 for a 582kg Limousin cross from Pitsundry.

Heifers cashed in at 241.93p and sold to 403.20p for a 496kg Limousin cross from Stanley and to £2000 for a 496kg similar animal from Stanley.

Topping the beef cows at 193.70p per kg was a Hereford cross from Altgolach or £1550 for a British Blue cross from Newton of Logierait, to level at 138.13p, while dairy types averaged 113.38p selling to 140p and £1050 for a Montbeliarde cross from Meikle Camoquhill or £1050.

Out of spec cattle balanced out at 169.60p and attained 206.30p for a Hereford cross from Altgolach, and to £1270 for a Salers cross from Kildavaig.

The 489 store sheep saw Cheviots average £95.00 and Mules at £95.00. Texels averaged £77.22 and Blackies at £81.36.

Heifers balanced out at 225.2p with a top price of £1360 for a Limousin from Rosemount or 265.5p for more of the same from Gleniron.

Friesian bullocks hit £1105 from Drongan House or 190p from Turnerhill, to cash in at 180.2p.

Trade remained buoyant at Aberdeen and Northern Marts' sale of 825 store and breeding cattle, where bullocks averaged 254.2p having sold to 303.7p per kg for a 326kg Charolais cross from West Cruichie, Drumblade and to £1500 for a 692kg Charolais cross from Wester Coull, Tarland.

Heifers levelled at 239.4p, attaining 282p for five 422kg Charolais crosses from Wellheads, Huntly or to £1380 for a pair of 608kg Charolais crosses from Nearhouse, Rousay.

Breeding cattle sold to £2400 on three occasions for a Limousin cross and two Simmental crosses all from North Crannoch, Crossroads.

On Tuesday, some 826 breeding and store sheep were sold where ewes with lambs averaged £85.77 having sold to £90 for Texels from Cairnton, Fordyce.

Ewes cashed in at £131.06, selling to £175 for one-crop Mules from Hebrides, Oldmeldrum, while store lambs peaked at £120 for Texels from Blackmyre, St Fergus, to cash in at £94.47.
