Some 943 hoggs averaged 263.6p per kg at Craig Wilson's sale, having peaked at £131 for a pen of heavyweight Texels from JG McMillan and Co, Over Airies, or 302.8p for Beltex from R Templeton and Co, Carslae.

The firm also sold 405 Blackface hoggs to balance out at 260.7p. They sold to £123.50 for a pen from A and F Baillie, Low Glasnick and to 273.9p from Lagafater Farms, Barnvannoch.

Cast sheep were topped at £115 for a Texel tup from C Old, Corhulloch, with ewes to £111 for Texel crosses from I McMaster, Knocknain.

Forfar

Lawrie and Symington had forward 41 prime cattle and 871 prime and cast sheep where 11 bullocks sold to 270p and £1706.40 for a 632kg Limousin from the Gask, to average 241.5p per kg.

Heifers were topped at 264p for a 553kg Limousin from Nethermyres or £1522.74 for a 619kg Limousin from the Gask, to cash in at 240p.

Some 681 prime hoggs attained £140 for a 45kg Beltex and a 48kg Beltex both from Balbrydie or 311p per for a 45kg Beltex also from Balbrydie.

Fallaw led the cast sheep, at £109 with a Texel.

Dumfries

At C and D Auction Marts’ sale, cattle sold to 245p per kg for a Limousin cross heifer from J Jardine, Yett.

OTM's met a solid trade selling to £1462.50 for an Aberdeen Angus from Auchencrieff or to 130p for a Limousin from Ballaggan.

The firm also sold 874 prime hoggs to cash in at 273.9p having sold to £143 for Suffolks from Garloff or 297p for Texels from Lanarkland.

The 299 cast sheep reached a top of £130 for Texels from Newbank.

Huntly

United Auctions’ sale of 1225 old season lambs averaged 269p per kg and sold to 303p for 36kg Texels from Glenavon Est, Tomintoul and to £130 for an 80kg Charollais from Bruckhills, Rothienorman.

Ewes attained £150 for Texels from Hatton Cottage, Dallas.

Stirling (Cale)

Trade remained buoyant at Caledonian Marts' sale of 59 bullocks, heifers and young bulls and 51 OTM's, where bullocks averaged 227.8p per kg having sold to 255p for a Limousin from W Dandie and Son, Learielaw and J and J Wyllie, Knockhouse, Fife or £1616 from Learielaw.

Limousins also led the heifers which levelled at 239.7p, selling to 258p from Learielaw, and to £1587 from D and L Graham, Mains of Burnbank, Blairdrummond.

Mains of Burnbank also topped the young bulls at £1708 with a Limousin.

OTM’s averaged 141p per kg, selling to 173p and £1450 for a Limousin from J McAlister, West Thomaston, Banknock, while dairy cows cashed in at 108p and attained 115p from T Greer, Wharlawhill, Fossoway or £730 from J and J Kinloch, Walton, Cardross.

On Tuesday, the firm sold 1165 hoggs to average 273p per kg with a top price of £148 paid for Beltex from Doune Farms, West Lundie, Argaty, or 333p for more of the same from RA Campbell and Sons, Meikle Seggie, Milnathort.

Ewes averaged £100.32 and peaked at £150 for a Texel from DGC Stewart, Leysbent, Denny, while rams averaged £84.95 having sold to £130 for a Texel from R Dobie and Co, South Cassingray, Largoward.

Wooler

Harrison and Hetherington's sale of 285 hoggs and 121 cast sheep, saw the former sell to £140 for Texels from Pasture Hill and 315p per kg for Texels from Lawfield, to average £126.

Cast ewes averaged £92 and sold to £137 for Texels from Wynding.

Stirling (UA)

A larger show of 5560 head of prime sheep was forward for United Auctions's sale where Beltex led the 4218 hoggs (4218) at £170 and 402p from Easter Ochtermuthill, to average 274.39p.

Ewes (1315) sold to £164 per head for Texels from Valleyview, while rams hit a top of £136 for Blackfaces from North Deanhead.

Thainstone

Bullocks averaged 203.3p per kg and heifers at 219.5p at Aberdeen and Northern Marts' weekly sale.

A 655kg Limousin cross from New Mains, Glenkindie, topped the bullocks at 219p, while a 715kg entry from Roslea, Fetternear, sold for the lead price per head at £1508.65.

Heifers hit a top of 237p for a 545kg Limousin cross from Cottown, Drumblade and £1432.20 for a 620kg Limousin cross from New Mains.

Beef cow prices peaked at £1570 for a 1150kg Simental from Berryleys, Grange, to average £1196.13, while feeding cows (33) cashed in at £887.87 having sold to £1155 for a 766kg Luing from Cluseburn, Inverbervie.

The 2761 prime hoggs averaged 272.4p per kg and peaked at 379.5p for a 39kg Beltex from Aldie Cruden Bay and £164 for 51kg Texels from Tomnavoulin, Glenlivet.

Feeding ewes and rams sold to £145 for Texels from Mains of Orchardtown, Udny.

Longtown

Beltex from A Taylor, Heathery Hall, topped C and D Auction Marts' sale of 4316 prime hoggs, which averaged 278.7p per kg with an SQQ of 284.5p, selling at 405p.

Top price per head was £174 paid for Texels from IHG Warden, Skelfhill, Hawick, to average 278.7p, with an SQQ of 284.4p.

Top price amongst the 2513 ewes, was £180 paid for a pure Texel from J Scott and Partners, Fearn, Inverness, while rams attained £150 for Texels from GW Dinnin, Nether Albie, Waterbeck.

St Boswell

Bullocks and heifers averaged 223p and 230p per kg respectively at Harrison and Hetherington's sale on Monday, having sold to £1543.30 and 253p from Bee Edge.

Cast entries peaked at £1386.46 from Rumbletonlaw and to 220p per kg from Shaws.

Prime hoggs (1041) sold to £153 for Texels from Headshaw and 313.8p for Beltex from Halidean Mill, to level at 260.6p per kg.

The 361 cast ewes cashed in at £82.63 having peaked to £147 for Texels from Over Whitlaw.

Lanark

Some 40 bullocks and heifers and 68 cast cows were forward for Lawrie and Symington’s sale, on Monday.

Limousins led the trade, with heifers selling to £1623 or 260p on two occasions from Messrs Dickinson, Brockwoodlees Farm, Canonbie.

Limousin bullocks sold to 250p twice from Messrs Gray, Balquharrage Farm, Lennoxtown and from Brockwoodlees, and to £1625 for the same animal.

The 2494 hoggs were topped at £159 for Texels from Messrs Struthers, Collielaw and to 384p for Beltex from Messrs Patterson, Wintermuir, to cash in at 276p with an SQQ of 281p.

Among the 1668 cast sheep, Texels from Messrs Hamilton, Mid Shawtonhill led the trade at £190.

Carlisle

Cattle from Messrs Dixon, Lesson Hall, Wigton, led Harrison and Hetherington's prime sale on Monday, securing three of the top four prices.

They sold the top priced steer at £1856 with a Charolais and the lead priced heifers at £1765 and 225.5p per kg.

Top price per kg amongst the bullocks was 249.5p paid for a Limousin from Grange Hall.

The 1660 hoggs levelled at 275p with an SQQ of 285p, having peak at £166 for Texels from Messrs Toppin, Basco Dyke, Penrith or to 378.9p for Beltex from Anthony and Stewart Shepherd, Low House, Millom.

Cast sheep sold to £146 were three Texel rams from Messrs Nixon, Ribton House, while ewes were topped at £133 for a Texel from Billy Borthwick, Catlins Farm.

Ayr

Limousins topped Craig Wilson Marts' sale where heifers averaged 233.4p having sold to 253p per kg from North Boig or to £1512.50 for another from Girvan Mains.

The 1695 hoggs sold on Monday averaged 272.1p having sold to £138 for a pair of Beltex from James Shennan and Son, Knockgerran or 326.8p for a pen of three Beltex from the same home.

The 562 cast sheep were topped at £188 for Texels from Messrs Walker, Laigh Alticane.

Dingwall

Limousins led Dingwall and Highland Marts' sale of 16 prime cattle, where bullocks cashed in at 218.7p having sold to 226p for a 600kg cross from Ashley, North Kessock and 226p and £1480.30 for a 655kg entry from the same home.

Heifers averaged 222.3p and sold to 239p twice for a 555kg Limousin cross from Kinchyle, Scaniport and a 580kg Charolais cross from Easter Sheep Park, Balblair and £1387.10 for a 715kg Aberdeen Angus cross from Bridgend, Dingwall.

The 821 old season lambs sold to 289.2p for 41.5kg Beltex crosses from Torgorm, Conon Bridge and £125 on three occasions – for 47kg Bleu du Maine from Tighnahinch, Alcaig; 51.5kg Cheviots from Tighnahinch and for 55kg Suffolk crosses from Groam Farm, Kirkhill, to balance out at 263.3p.

Feeding sheep sold to £138 for a Suffolk ewe from Glenernie Farm, Dunphail.

Castle Douglas

Wallets Marts sold 1453 prime hoggs to average 276p per kg with an SQQ of 278.7p.

Top prices were 361p for Beltex from Messrs McConnell, Gass, Glenluce or £150 for a Texel from Messrs Nicholson, Bombie, Kirkcudbright.

The 334 Blackface hoggs cashed in at 271p having peaked to £127.50 for heavyweights from Messrs Statham, Laghead and to 280.7p from TS Farming, Tinwald Shaws.

The 279 cast ewes sold to £141 for a Texel ewe from Messrs McConnell, Gass, Glenluce.
