Two separate multi-breed sales of pedigree bulls staged on the same day through Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ at Thainstone, were topped by Simmental bulls selling at 8800gns and 8000gns, respectively.

The Thainstone online event, held in conjunction with Sell My Livestock, led the trade at 8800gns for a bull from the Green family’s Corskie herd from Fochabers, and saw 22 bulls cash in at just shy of £4500.

Meanwhile the actual multi-bred sale through the market at Thainstone, hit a top of 7000gns for a Simmental from the Stronach family’s Islavale herd, and saw 16 bulls sell to average £4902.19.

Leading the online event at 8800gns was Corskie Kirby, a 17-month-old entry by Dirnanean Bradley, bred out of the Corksie Delboy-sired cow, Corskie Fergie. He sold to Ian Hunter, Dalchirla Farms, Muthill, Crieff.

Two other Simmentals produced the next two top prices online, with Backmuir King Kong from Reece and Andrew Simmers, Backmuir, Keith, selling for 7500gns to J and JS Wilken, Raefin, Keith. King Kong, a 22-month-old son of Corrick Hayden, is out of Starline Eva 25.

Gary Christie, Birchfield, Midtown of Glass, Huntly, then sold his 17-month-old bull Rockytop Krakatoa for 6700gns to I Murray, Doonby, Glassel, Banchory. He is by Kilbride Farm Fearless and out of Tilbrrok Champagne.

Limousins were topped at 6000gns for Wedderburn Princeton from Jim and Sandy Hunter, Wedderburn, Huntly, purchased by Miller Farms, North Lurg, Midmar. This 22-month-old boy is a son of Swarland Likelylad, out of Wedderburn Imogen.

Graeme Morrison, Inchbruich, Cornhill, received 4800gns for the 21-month-old Limousin, Deveronvale Pascal, an Ampertaine Gigolo son, when selling to D and P Petrie, West Maldron, Torphins, Banchory.

Top price amongst the Herefords was 4100gns paid to Molly Stuart from Lettoch, Glenlivet, for Glenlivet Haggis, an April 2019-born son of Solpoll 1 Ferrari. The buyers were CH and CM Reid, Glencorrie, Laggan House, Dufftown.

Salers sold to 3800gns for Rigel Olaf from Rigel Pedigree, Levens, Yarm, purchased by I and I Brown, Millbrae, Sanday, Orkney.

Matching that price was a Blonde from Alison Watt, Birkenburn, Keith, when selling to B and CC Taylor, Annamuick, Stonehaven.

Aberdeen-Angus and Charolais peaked at 3600gns, with both selling to JD Penman, Mill of Saphock, Oldmeldrum.

The former was Thrunton Romeo, from from JHC Campbell, Thrunton, Alnwick, while the later Strathys Premium, was consigned by K and J Mallarkey, Airdlin Mains, Ythanbank, Ellon.

At the live sale of bulls at Thainstone, prices peaked at 7000gns for Islavale Kenny, a 22-month-old Simmental from the Stronach family’s large herd based at Berryleys, Keith. Kenny is by Ranfurly Confederate, out of the Curaheen Bandit-sired Islavale Clee, and sold up to Orkney with RJ and L Gaudie, Netherskaill, Birsay.

The same home also received 5800gns for another by the same sire. Islavale Kooper, a 15-month-old son of the Atlow Dixon-sired Islavale Hannah, was bought by Jimmy Dick, Northton, Cullerlie, Echt.

Three Charolais bulls sold at 6000gns, with the first being Elrick Phantom from Mike Massie, Mains of Elrick, Ellon. He is sired by Maerdy Gouverneur, and sold to GB Grieve, South Nittanshead, New Pitsligo, Fraserburgh.

The McCombie family from Auchincrieve, Rothiemay, Huntly, received the same money for the 21-month-old Auchincrieve Piranha, by Maerdy Express, when purchased by J Baxter, Troup Home Farm, Gamrie, Banff.

The last of the 6000gns bids came from CG Mcgillivray, Auchnascraw, Chapeltown, for Jock Wilson’s 20-month-old Kinclune Powerhouse, by Goldies Ivan.

At 5000gns, I Lumsden, Blackriggs, Strichen, Fraserburgh, bought Billy Milne’s Charolais, Glenernan Pluto, a two-year-old son of Elgin Jagger from Ernan, Waterside, Strathdon.

Limousins were topped at 4500gns twice, with the first from Walter Cruikshank, Clury Farm, Dulnain Bridge, Grantown-on-Spey, selling to DJ Mcinnes, Half of 9 Saasaig, Teangue, Sleat, Isle of Skye. The 22-month-old Clury Prospector, is by the French sire Larry.

The other at 4500gns was the 18-month-old Walkers Ptolemy, an Allanfauld Gazza-sired bull from Gordon Walker, Easterside, Stonehaven, purchased by GM Angus and Son, Mains of Cookney, Netherley, Stonehaven.

Michael Robertson, Easter Fodderletter, Tomintoul, topped the Aberdeen-Angus at 4000gns with Wolflaw Joe Eric. He was purchased by C Coutts, Mans of Corsegight, New Deer, Turriff.
