Newton Stewart

Some 1336 prime and cast sheep sold through Craig Wilsons' to a top of £139 for Mule hoggs from PA Murray, High Ersock.

Top price per kg of 320p paid for Texels from A and T Wilson, Baryerrock.

Cast sheep peaked at £142 for Texels from JW Ramsay, Whitefield, while tups sold to £133 for Texels from M Kevans, Seaview.

Penrith

Beltex cross Texel hoggs sold to 388p per kg for Messrs Lightfoot, Gillside, at Penrith and District Farmers’ Mart LLP sale of 3466 sheep, to help achieve an SQQ of 297p, and an overall average of £126.

Top price was £171 paid for 47kg Texel hoggs from J Walker, Gables.

Several lots sold for more than £200 per head amongst the cast sheep which peaked at £208 for Texels from Backmuir Livestock, to cash in at £97.35.

Wooler

All classes were dearer on the week at Harrison and Hetherington's sale of 506 prime sheep which averaged 267p per kg with a SQQ of 280p.

Texels topped the hoggs at £149 and 315p per kg from Hetton Law and East Fleetham respectively.

Cast ewes sold to £157 for more of the same from S Robson, Buckholm Farmhouse.

Forfar

Limousins led all sections at Lawrie and Symington's sale of 25 cattle, where bullocks (7) and heifers (18) balanced out at 237p per kg and 242p respectively.

Bullocks were topped at 263p for a 488kg Limousin from Chapel of Barras, and to £1553.76 for a 624kg entry from Nethermyres.

A 508kg entry from Nethermyres topped the heifers at 268p, while £1570.94 was paid for a 686kg Limousin from Gask.

Topping the 581 hoggs at £151 was a 58kg Texel from Hatton of Cargill, and 325p per kg was paid for 43kg Beltex from Balbrydie.

An overall average of 275p per kg with an SQQ of 279p was achieved.

Cockermouth

A Limousin heifer sold for the top price of 260p per kg and £1560 through Mitchells Livestock, for Messrs Miller, Allerby Hall, Aspatria.

Bulls realised £1397.99 for a Limousin from JP Lister, Oughterside Mill, Wigton, and to 214p for a British Blue from Crooklands.

Hoggs sold to £172.50 for a Texel from R Brough, Langfauld, Aspatria, and to 370.2p per kg for Beltex from I Powley, Green Marsh, Carlisle.

Cast ewes reached £179 for a Texel ewe from AH Ritson, Ireby Hall, Ireby.

Huntly

United Auctions sold 2561 prime sheep at their sale where 1695 old season lambs achieved an SQQ of 273.66p per kg.

They sold to 326p per kg for 43kg Beltex from Upper Woodside, Rothiemay, and to £175 for 81kg Texels from North Dorlaithers, Turriff.

North Dorlaithers also led the cast trade with a Texel ewe at £221.

Stirling (Cale)

All classes met a firm trade at Caledonian Marts' sale of 66 clean cattle, 62 OTM, and 24 calves and stirks.

Heifers sold to 265p per kg for a Limousin from DS and RC Taylor, Easter Ochtermuthill, Muthill, and to £1640 for a Charolais from M Orr and Sons, Penston, Macmerry.

Another Limousin from Easter Ochtermuthill topped the bullocks at 250p per kg, while H Greer, Gelvan View, Kinross, sold a Limousin at £1647.

Top price amongst the bulls was 212p per kg for a Charolais from DM Lyle, Mid Cambushinnie, Kinbuck, or £1885 for a Limousin from J Burnett and Sons, Upper Spittalton, Blairdrummond.

On Tuesday the 1270 prime hoggs, ewes and tups sold to 352p per kg for 44kg Beltex crosses from A and B Kerr, East Cairnbeg or £156 for Texels from S and J E Andrew, Letter, Dunkeld.

Hoggs averaged 283p per kg with an SQQ of 285p.

Stirling UA

Texel ewes from Nether Stewarton realised £200 at United Auctions' sale of 6898 sheep comprising of 5250 prime hoggs and 1648 cast sheep.

Balvie led the cast tups at £158 with a Texel.

Old season lambs averaged 286.03p per kg, having sold to £178 for Beltex from Newton of Crathie, and 428p per kg for Texels from Drumdowie hit 428p per kg.

Perthshire and District and Fife and Kinross YFC overwintering competition saw 49 head sell to £173 per head from Finlay Adam, Highholm reaching £173 followed by £169 from both Callum Coutts, Drumdowie and Michael Rattray, West Park.

Thainstone

Aberdeen and Northern Marts' sale of 3840 prime sheep was one of the dearest to date, selling to £155 for 66kg Texels from Newton of Greeness, Turriff, to average £127.86.

Top price per kg was 329.7p paid for 37kg Beltex from Aldie, Cruden Bay.

Feeding sheep sold to £214.50 for Texel ewes from Milltown of Birness, Ellon, to level at£90.57.

A buoyant demand was also witnessed for prime cattle where bullocks sold to 241p per kg for a 540kg Charolais cross from Nether Mains, Torphins, and to £1423.50 for a 650kg Charolais from Braeside, Inverurie.

Heifers realised 245p for a 595kg Limousin cross from Auchmaliddie Mains, Maud, and to £1593.60 for a 960kg Charolais from Mormond Prop, New Pitsligo.

Longtown

AT C and D Auction Marts' weekly sale, a Charolais topped the trade at £1153 for for Messrs Baxter, Moss Side, Hethersgill, with an Angus cow from Midtown selling at 164p per kg.

The 5123 hoggs witnessed a top call of 425p per kg for Beltex hoggs from GT Beattie, Guardsmill, Gretna, to give an overall average of 288.5p and an SQQ of 294.8p was achieved.

The small entry of new season lambs sold to 325p or £151 for Dutch Spotted weighing 46kg from Messrs Forster, Howthat, Ruthwell.

Lanark

Lawrie and Symington's sale of 115 cattle on Monday was dominated by entries from Messrs Dickinson, Brockwoodlees, Canonbie, who sold heifers at 268p per kg and £1605, and bullocks at 248p and £1647.

Beef cows peaked at £1475 from Messrs Dunlop, Hillhead, Auchengray, and to 195p from Messrs Dow, Dovecot Farm, West Linton.

Messrs Jackson, Wolfclyde, Biggar, topped the dairy cows at £1155, and Messrs Hamilton, High Crewburn, Strathaven, sold to141p.

Prime hoggs were the dearest trade of the season producing an overall average of 287p per kg and an SQQ of 289.5p, having sold to 392.1p for Texels from Drumalbin Cottage and £176 for more of the same from Howes Way.

Cast ewes peaked at £208 for Texels from Glenrath, while more of the same topped the tups at £160 from Nether Stenries.

Ayr

Texel hoggs topped Craig Wilson's sale of 2113 prime sheep on Monday selling at £158 for A Templeton, Drumclog, while 341.5p per kg was paid for Beltex from M Stevenson, Balcaimie.

They averaged 282.9p per kg or £120, with an SQQ of 291.4p

The 356 cast sheep were topped at £188 for Texels from Messrs Paton, Craig, Straiton, whilst more of the same led the tups at £150 from G Shearer, East Revoch.

On Tuesday, the firm sold 85 prime and cast cattle, where 13 heifers averaged 242.2p per kg.

Top price of 270p per kg was paid for a Limousin from Burnockstone, or to £1560 for another of the same from High Glentriploch.

Bullocks peaked at 260p or £1651 for a Limousin cross from North Boig.

St Boswells

Heifers from Bee Edge made 266p per kg to top Harrison and Hetherington's sale, while bullocks sold to 249p for Penston.

Bullocks (27) averaged 230p per kg while heifers (58) cashed in at 238p.

Cast cows balanced out at 168p having sold to 243p and £1665 from Inland Pasture.

Some 1399 hoggs averaged 299p per kg, selling to £177 for Beltex from Crookston, and to 392p for more of the same from Wester Ulston.

Hampshire ewes topped the cast trade at £138 from St Clements Wells, to level at £86.94.

Carlisle

On Monday, Harrison and Hetherington sold 360 cast cows, bulls and prime cattle and 1756 prime sheep.

Limousin cross steers led the charge at £1722 and £1719 from Messrs Nicholson, The Lake, Carlisle, while heifers peaked at £1589 on two occasions for more of the same breed from Nealhouse.

Limousins from Messrs Little, Greenhill, Wigton, led the pence per kg sections at 275.5p and 239.5p for heifers and steers respectively.

Bulls sold to £2122 for a Limousin from Messrs Pattinson, Bonshawside, Lockerbie or 239.5p per kg for another of the same from Messrs Dent, Beamwham, Hexham.

Prime hogg values averaged £134.06 per head or 296p having sold to £176 paid for heavy Texels from Messrs Wilson, Street Head, Ivegill, and to 403p for 39kg Beltex from Messrs Little, The Hollands, Penton.

Cast sheep sold to £140 for a Texel from Messrs Carr, Millhill.

Dingwall

Dingwall and Highland Marts sale of 14 prime cattle, saw heifers cash in at 219.2p per kg, having sold to 241p for a 530kg Limousin cross from Ashley, North Kessock, or £1417.50 for a 630kg entry from Kinchyle, Scaniport.

Ashley also topped the bullocks with Limousins at 219.0p and £1424.75 for 580kg and 695kg beasts respectively.

The 944 prime sheep saw 900 old season lambs average 290.2p per kg, having sold to 302.3p for Beltex crosses from Torgorm, Conon Bridge, weighing 43kg and 44kg.

Top price per head was £137.50 paid for a Beltex from Glebe Farm, Kiltarlity and 55kg Texel crosses from Croft Martin, Kingussie.

Feeding sheep (44) sold to £187 for Texel ewes from Corrybrough, Tomatin.

Castle Douglas

Some 1306 prime hoggs averaged 290.5p per kg with an SQQ of 292.4p at Wallets Marts' sale.

Top price per kg was 384.6p paid for Beltex from Messrs Campbell, Carsewalloch, Creetown, or £157 for Texels from Messrs Brown, Little Culmain, Crocketford.

Blackface hoggs smashed the £3 a kg barrier, selling to £132.50 and 308.1p for 42kg-43kg hoggs from Barlure Farmers, New Luce.

The 151 cast sheep were topped at £175 by Texel ewes from Messrs Milroy, Mains of Machermore.
