A Limousin cross heifer from Zoe Hall, Horsley Hill, took the top spot at the Young Farmer Overwintering Competition at St Boswells, which was held alongside Harrison and Hetherington’s fortnightly sale of store cattle.

This champion at the pre-sale show crossed the weigh bridge at 495kg, before going on to sell for £2300.

Judge, W Hamilton, of Bee Edge, tapped out his reserve champion to a Charolais cross bullock from R Briggs, which later realised £1750.

Outwith the Young Farmers, trade peaked at £1350 for a Simmental cross bullock from Messrs Fleming, The Trows, and to 307p per kg for Charolais cross bullocks from Messrs Connon, Greenknowe.

Bullocks and heifers averaged 258.97p and 252.04p respectively.
