A smaller show of cattle were forward on the week at Harrison and Hetherington's sale, which achieved an overall average of £1202.

Sale leader, was a Limousin cross heifer which realised £1580 from Messrs Bowman, Croft House, Penrith.

Steers witnessed a top of £1565 for a British Blue cross from Messrs Graham, Carleton Hill, Carlisle.

Topping the weaned cattle was a Limousin bull from Messrs Foster, North View, Carlisle, at £1340, with heifers realising £1230 for a British Blue cross from Messrs Davidson, Muirhouse, Lockerbie.

An Aberdeen-Angus steer from Messrs Kirkwood, Mouswald Grange, reached £1100.

British Blues from Messrs Fisher, Smalmstown, led the way among the 390 calves topping the bulls at £595 and heifers at £515.

On Monday the weekly sale of store and breeding sheep saw Beltex gimmers with lambs at foot reach £124 a life from Messrs Anderson, Leafield, Dumfries.

Store cattle once again surpassed all sellers expectations at Dingwall and Highland Marts sale of 576 entries, where bullocks and heifers averaged 263.5p per kg and 263.2p respectively.

A pen of 235kg Limousin cross bullocks realised 327.7p for Opinan, Gairloch, and £1330 was achieved on two occasions, firstly for a pair of 482kg Charolais crosses from Kindeace, Alness, and again for a 530kg Limousin cross from Castlecraig Farms, Nigg.

Heifers topped at 375.0p for a 240kg Limousin cross from Westburn, Thurso, and to £1450 on two occasions firstly for a 575kg Charolais cross from Torgorm, Conon Bridge, and for a 545kg British Blue from The Arr, Lethen.

Young bulls (4) averaged 253.8p and sold to 284.0p for a pair of 257kg Limousin crosses from Kingsburgh, Portree, and to £1010 for a 415kg Limousin cross from Melvaig, Gairloch.

Simmental cross heifers led the in-calf females at £2000 on two occasions for Tister, Halkirk.

Averages were well up on the year among the 7828 sheep of all classes, with ewe lambs and store lambs cashing in at £90.88 (+£23.14) and £94.01 (+£36.43) respectively.

Topping the sale at £160 was crosses from Earlish, Uig, whilst Beltex ewe lambs reached £150 from Marian, Evanton.

Ewes and feeding sheep sold to £146 for a Suffolk ewe from Balallan, Lochs, and more cross ewes this time with lambs at foot peaked at £128 from Silverwells, Edderton.

Bullocks peaked at 311.90p per kg for a 226kg Limousin cross from Abbeymill, and to £1510 on two occasions, firstly for a 600kg Aberdeen-Angus cross from Netherton, and again for a 652kg Limousin cross from Meikle Finnery.

Simmental crosses dominated the heifers at 309.10p for a 254kg entry from Bangour, and to £1520 for a pen of 636kg heifers from Kirkton of Mailler.

Young bulls averaged 232.89p and sold to 260.20p for a Limousin cross from Blairmore, and to £1280 for a Simmental cross from Nether Pratis.

Bullocks cashed in at 248.1p, whilst heifers balanced out at 252.2p.

A Limousin from Knockterra, led the heifers at £1690 and 382.2p.

A small show of hoggs realised £101 for Texels form Kirkland Place.

Another large show of calves and stirks were forward for Penrith and District Farmers' Mart's fortnightly sale, where trade peaked at £730 for Aberdeen-Angus bull stirks from Broom Mill Farm.
