Newton Stewart

Some 671 prime sheep sold through Craig Wilson Marts’ weekly sale, saw 574 hoggs average 264.1p per kg and top at £150 for a Texel from R Bodle, Dirnow, and to 306.3p for Texels from A and J Wright. Traboyack Farms.

Among the cast sheep, prices reached £150 on two occasions for Texels from R Bodle, Dirnow, and then from Baltier Farming Co, whilst tups attained £135 for Lleyns from S Galloway, Barvernochan.

Wooler

All classes were dearer on the week at Harrison and Hetherington’s sale of 506 prime sheep which averaged 291p per kg with a SQQ of 301p.

Texels from Hetton Law, led the hoggs at £180 or 410p for Beltex from New Heaton, while cast ewes averaged £105 and sold to £179 for Texels from Shepherds Cottage.

Penrith

Penrith and District Farmers’ Mart’s weekly sale of 2790 prime sheep witnessed 1393 hoggs cash in at 295p per kg

Topping at 414p and £174 was Beltex cross Texels from MTP and SD Wills, Fawcett Park, while cast sheep balanced out at £105.01 and reached £200 for continental ewes from Holme House.

Holme House also topped the cast ram trade with seven Charollais making £166 per head.

Cockermouth

A buoyant trade was enjoyed at Mitchells Auction Mart, where heifers sold to 215p per kg for a Limousin from Hunday, and to £1397.76 for a British Blue from Springfield.

Bullocks peaked at 228p for a Limousin from East Mill, and to £1348.46 for a Holstein Friesian from Springfield.

Hoggs sold dearer on the week with a top price of £176.50 being paid for a Texel from G Gate, Hollins, Cockermouth, and to 317.4p for more of the same from AE and VJ Errington, Beck House, Embleton.

A smaller entry of ewes sold to £158 for Texels from Messrs Bowe, Bothel Parks, Wigton.

Forfar

Limousins led the trade at Lawrie and Symington’s sale of 25 cattle, where bullocks and heifers balanced out at 242.5p per kg and 242p respectively.

Bullocks were topped at 254p for a 616kg Limousin from Nethermyres, and to £1568.60 for a 682kg Limousin from the Riggs. While Limousins also led the heifers at 260p from Nethermyres, and to £1478.64 from Pityot.

Topping the 341 hoggs at 369p were 42kg Beltex or £160 for 45kg Bleu Du Maine both from Balbrydie, to average 275p with a SQQ of 281p.

Huntly

United Auctions sold 1699 prime sheep, where 1081 old season lambs attained a top price of 315p for 36kg Cheviots from Shenval, Glenlivet, and to £153 for 59kg Beltex from Logie Durno, Pitcaple.

Logie Durno also led the ewes at £200 for Texels.

Stirling (Cale)

All classes met a firm trade at Caledonian Marts’ sale of 162 prime cattle, where bullocks sold to 268p per kg for a British Blue from W Currie and Co, Southhook, Kilmarnock, and to £1684 for a Limousin from M Orr and Son, Penston, Macmerry, to level at 231p.

Heifers topped at 280p for a Limousin from W Dandie and Sons, Learielaw, Broxburn, and to £1624 for a Charolais from M Orr and Son, Penston, Macmerry, to cash in at 245p.

The firm also sold 1137 prime sheep, with hoggs balancing out at 306p and peaking at 370p and £173 for Texels from S and JE Andrew, Letter, Dunkeld.

The 179 cast sheep averaged £141.75 and sold to £200 for a Texel ewe from JA Heggie, Carden, Fossoway, while rams balanced out at £105.31 and sold to £149 for Suffolks from A and J McNicol, Pendreich, Bridge of Allan.

Stirling (UA)

At United Auctions’ sale of 5835 sheep, Langside led the new season lamb trade at £162 and to 345p per kg for Suffolks.

While old season lambs witnessed Beltex from Ballechin top at £178, with mroe of the same achieving 377p from Woodhead of Mailer.

Texels topped the cast sheep at £179 from Springfield, while the ram trade peaked at £180 for Suffolks from Oatfield.

Thainstone

Aberdeen and Northern Marts sold five bullocks to average 234.2p per kg and top at 255p or £1606.50 for a 630kg Limousin cross from Mains of Drumbreck, Udny.

Heifers realised 261p for a 575kg Limousin cross from Barnyards of Badenyoucher, Cornhill, and to £1648.80 for a 720kg Simmental cross from Lost Farm, Strathdon, to level at 234.6p.

Trade for young bulls cashed in at 161p and topped at 189p and £1502.55 for a 795kg Limousin cross from Mains of Drumbreck.

The sale of 2408 prime sheep witnessed old season lambs cashed in at 272.8p and sell to 323.9p for 46kg Beltex from Culhay, Alford, and to £156 for 68kg Texels from Nistagar, Harray.

Longtown

At C and D Auction Marts’ sale, some 4193 hoggs balanced out at 302.7p per kg with a SQQ of 307.4p having sold to 455p for Beltex from J Guthrie, Cuiltburn, Crieff, and to £194 for more of the same from TA Jefferson, Aspatria Hall, Aspatria.

The 1842 ewes were topped at £198 for Texel ewes from Messrs Beard, Dormansteads, Carlisle, while rams achieved £196 for Texels from Shankbridge End Farms, Hethersgill.

Lanark

Lawrie and Symington’s sale of 110 cattle saw bullocks sell to 255p per kg from Messrs Pettigrew, Faskine, Airdrie, and to £1641 from Messrs Lindsay, Bushelhead, Carluke.

On the flip side, heifers peaked at £1710 and 264p from Messrs Dickinson, Brockwoodlees, Canonbie.

Prime hoggs were topped at £177 and 402p for Beltex from Anderson, Oldwalls, to average 303p with a SQQ of 306p, while the 984 cast ewes peaked £226 for Texels from Struthers Greenbank.

Ayr

Craig Wilson’s sale of 2080 prime sheep topped at £167 for Beltex from AM Richmond, High Grange, and to 380.5p for Beltex from M Stevenson, Balcaimie, to average 298.4p with a SQQ of 310.3p.

The 305 cast sheep were topped at £194 for Texels from J Gilmour, Humeston, while rams attained £162 for more of the same from T Barr, Shieldhill.

On Tuesday, 123 prime and cast cattle saw heifers and bullocks average 247.3p and 227.6p respectively.

Heifers realised 265p for a Limousin cross from Rowanston, and to £1536 for a Charolais from North Boig, while bullocks sold to 254p and £1600.20 for a Limousin from North Boig.

St Boswells

Bullocks (28) and heifers (39) averaged 248p per kg and 249p respectively, at Harrison and Hetherington’s sale on Monday, where prices peaked at £1726.56 from Effledge, and to 265p from Bee Edge.

Cast entries topped at £1638.12 from Kersknowe and 219p from Soutra.

The 856 topped at £173 for Texels from Whitsome West Newton, and to 372.1p for Beltex from Faughhill, to level at 287p, while cast sheep averaged £102 and topped at £155 for Texels from Elliston.

Carlisle

Limousins were the star attraction at Harrison and Hetherington’s weekly sale, where bullocks topped at £1977 and 258.5p per kg from Lords Close, whilst heifers peaked at £1591 from Bonshawside, and to 271.5p from Greenhill.

The 2175 hoggs cashed in at 305p with a SQQ of 311p, reaching £192 for Beltex from Messrs Little, The Guards, Wigton, and to 429.4p for more of the same from PR and LR Hunter, Stoneraise, Wigton.

An average of £155 was achieved for the cast sheep, with prices peaking at £190 for a Texel ram from Messrs Donaldson, Hazel House.

Dingwall

All classes were in demand at Dingwall and Highland Marts sale, where bullocks cashed in at 233.9p per kg and sold to 246p on two occasions for 605kg and 585kg Limousin crosses and £1548 for a 645kg Limousin cross, all from Kinchyle.

Kinchyle also led the heifers, at 245p and £1555.75 for a 635kg Limousin cross, to level at 229.6p.

Some 769 old season lambs averaged 305.4p and attained 334.2p for 39.5kg Texel crosses from Teawig, Beauly, and to £147 for 45kg Texel crosses from South Clunes, Kirkhill.

Castle Douglas

On Tuesday, Wallets Marts enjoyed a buoyant trade where 709 hoggs sold to average 303.6p per kg and attained a SQQ of 306p.

Topping the sale at 341.1p was Cheviots from Messrs Jamieson, Garrochtrie, and to £192 for Texels from Messrs Hiddleston, Rigghead.

A smaller show of 112 cast sheep balanced out at £140, where records were broken when a Texel ewe realised £211 from Messrs Hendry, Rascarrel, closely followed by Denty Texels with a ewe at £210.
