Warnelview Holsteins dominated much of the proceedings at the Border and Lakeland Holstein Club’s spring bull sale at Carlisle, selling the majority of top priced lots including two at 6000gns each.

The herd from Wood Farm, Thursby, which is owned by Kevin and Christine Wilson and sons, Tom and Will, sold the two top sellers along with seven out of the eight lead priced bulls. In all, the family sold 11 bulls to average a whopping £4219.

First to make 6000gns was Warnelview Boulder, a Progenesis Granite son out of the Warnelview Tiger daughter, Warnelview Tiger Belle Ex91. This 17-month-old entry sold up to Lanarkshire having been purchased by the Smith family of Greentower Farms, Lanark.

Messrs Paterson, Mauchline, forked out the same money for the yearling bull, Warnelview Nigel. He is by Sandy-Valley Challenger and out of the Ex97 Warnelview Final Cut Nita, by Gillette Final Cut.

Just behind on 5800gns was the similarly aged, Warnelview Sergio, purchased by Messrs Mercer, Bolton, Lancashire. Champion at the pre-sale show, Sergio is by Croteau Lesperron Unix and out of the Bertaiola Mincio daughter, Warnelview Mincio Susette Ex92.

Selling at 5200gns was Warnelview Edge, a 17-month-old son of Peak LC Altacordial, purchased by Messrs Harrington and Son, Wigton. His dam is the Ex90 Warnelview Hampton Enid, a Lookout Pesce Hampton daughter.

Fife breeders, Messrs Stewart and Co, Anstruther, forked out 4200gns for the 14-month-old Warnelview Elijah, also by Peak LC Altacordial, but bred from the Ex94-classified cow, Warnelview Glauco Enid.

Matching that price was Warnelview Randal, which sold up to Aberdeenshire with Messrs Meredith, Strichen. This yearling is by the same sire and out of a Ballycairn Supersire Corinthian-sired, Warnelview Corinthian Ruby Ex92.

Heading up the road to Strichen on the same lorryload was the top priced British Friesian at 4400gns. Nerewater Index from Richard Bell, Kirkbride, Wigton, is a September 2019-born son of Kirby Jupiter, while his dam, Nerewater Iris 30, produced more than 11,000kg in her third and is classified Ex91.

Ian Brocket’s Winnoch Lorenzo from Park of Barnaigh, Kilbarchan, Johnstone, sold next at 3800gns to Messrs Jones, Carmarthen. This July 2019-born Friesian is by Beaufort Kabana and out of a Winnoch Counsellor daughter, Winnoch Penguin.
