Some 662 sheep were sold through Craig Wilson Mart, where 18 spring lambs were topped at £160 for Suffolks from A Wallace and Co, Claycrop or to 324.3p per kg for more of the same from M Bodle, No 2 High Boreland.

Hoggs cashed in at 281.2p having peaked at £157 for Texels JR Howie, Auchentibbert and to 329.6p for Texels from A and J Wright Traboyack Farms.

The 374 Blackface hoggs attained a top price of £139.50 from A and F Baillie, Low Glasnick, with lightweights from the same home selling to 306.6p, to level at 292.9p.

Cast sheep were topped at £150 for Texel tups from JR Howie, Auchentibbert, while JT and SA Cannon, Redbrae led the ewes at £148 with a Suffolk.

Wooler

All classes were dearer on the week at Harrison and Hetherington’s sale of 600 prime sheep, with hoggs levelling at 288p per kg having sold to £181 for a Texel from East Fleetham or to 376.5p for Beltex from Heaton.

Cast ewes sold to £191 for a Texel from IF Murray, Shepherds Cottage, while a Texel from Gatherick led the rams at £179.

Forfar

Limousins led the trade at Lawrie and Symington’s sale of 31 cattle, where bullocks (11) and heifers (20) balanced out at 244p per kg and 252p respectively.

Bullocks sold to 258p for a 614kg Limousin from Nethermyres and for a 538kg British Blue from Chapel of Barras and to £1610 for a 644kg Limousin from Nethermyres.

Limousins also topped the heifers at 273p twice – for a 514kg entry from Nethermyres and a 542kg lot from Chapel of Barras or to £1665.20 for a 724kg Charolais from Pityot.

Topping the 384 hoggs at 377p per kg and £170 were 45kg Beltex from Glenmoy. They averaged 287p.

Shandford led the casts trade at £161 for Texel ewes.

Huntly

United Auctions sold 1349 prime sheep, where new season lambs sold to 318p per kg and £143 for 45kg Texels from Meadows, Rothiemay, while old season types averaged 291.2p having sold to 344p for 38kg Beltex from Craighall, Cairnie or £175 for 74kg Texels from Dunscroft, Huntly.

Ewes sold to £169 for a trio of Beltex from Mains of Culsh, New Deer.

Stirling (Cale)

AT Caledonian Marts’ sale of 98 prime cattle, bullocks sold to 255p for a Limousin from M Orr and Sons, Penston, Macmerry and to £1768 for an Aberdeen-Angus from H Greer, Gelvan View, Kinross, to cash in at 234p.

Heifers were topped at 275p for Limousins from J and N Kerr, Bankhead, Aberdour and to £1820 for a from the same home to level at 253p.

Bulls sold to to 212p for an Aberdeen-Angus from S Dick, Westerton, Cowie and to £2007 for a Limousin from W and R Thomson, Cairnbog, Kilsyth.

OTM’s averaged 158p, selling to 198p for a Limousin from W Erskine, Woodcockdale and to £1490 for a Limousin from R Graham, Airthrey Kerse, while cast males sold to £1400 for a Shorthorn bull from C Hastie, Easter Gartfarran and to 134p for a Highlander from M Reynier, Easter Ellister, Islay.

On Tuesday, the firm sold 957 sheep, where spring lambs sold to £174 and 379p for a pair of Suffolks from J Wilson, Balhelvie, Newburgh, while hoggs sold to £163 for Texels from S and JE Andrew, Letter, Dunkeld or 326p per kg for Texels from J and D McNicol, Whitecross, Dunblane.

The 374 cast sheep averaged £124.61 having peaked at £175 for Texels from Bankhead Farming, Crook of Devon.

Stirling (UA)

At United Auctions’ sale of 4417 sheep, Easter Ochtermuthill and 9a Cauldcoates led the new season lamb trade at £174 per head and to 372p per kg for Beltex and Texels respectively.

Easter Ochtermuthill also topped the old season lambs at £174 and 387p with Beltex.

Texels topped the cast ewes at £176 from Wester Balgair, while rams sold to £189 for a cross-bred from Hatton Know.

Thainstone

Aberdeen and Northern Marts sold 16 bullocks to average 219.2p with top prices of 267p per kg and £1909.05 per head paid for a 715kg Aberdeen-Angus cross from Mains of Dumbreck, Udny.

The 32 heifers levelled at 230.5p having sold to 261p for a 560kg Limousin cross from Stoneyhill, Keith-Hall or £1672.50 for a 750kg Salers cross from Whiteinches, Pitcaple.

Also sold were 95 beef finished cows which averaged £1274.63 with a top price of £1690 paid for an 844kg Limousin cross from South Seatter, Sandwick, while 39 beef feeding cows levelled at £1031.41 having sold to £1205 for a 726kg Simmental cross from Nottingham Mains, Latheron.

The 2678 old season lambs balanced out at 289.9p per kg, having peaked at 328.3p for 46kg Beltex from Newton of Greeness, Turriff and £163 for 65kg Texels from Burnside, Newmachar.

The 616 feeding ewes and rams sold to £187 for Texels from Burnside, Newmachar.

Longtown

At C and D Auction Marts’ sale, new season prime lambs sold to £150 on two occasions for Suffolks from HM Martindale, The Land, Lockerbie and for Texels from Messrs Hewson, Burgh Head, Carlisle.

The 2306 hoggs balanced out at 298p with an SQQ of 304.2p having sold to 369p and £170 for Beltex from M and W Fotheringham, Drumcairn, Perth.

The 1821 ewes were topped at £200 for Texel ewes from Beckfoot, while rams were led by Suffolks from the same home at £216.

Lanark

Lawrie and Symington’s sale of 246 cattle saw bullocks sell to 270p from Messrs Gray, Balquharrage Farm, Lennoxtown or to £1633 from Messrs Ferguson Bros, Gillandersland Farm, Linlithgow.

Heifers peaked at 280p from Messrs Dickinson, Brockwoodlees Farm, Canonbie or to £1680 from Messrs Wainwright, Todhall Farm, Cupar.

Prime hoggs were topped at £168 for Texels from Messrs Struthers, Collielaw and to 365p for Beltex from Downie Farming, Newton of Crathie, to balance out at 290p with an SQQ 295p.

The 1120 cast sheep reached a top of £194 for Texels from Messrs Gibb, Toftcombs.

Ayr

Craig Wilson’s sale of 1306 prime sheep on Monday saw prices peak at £179 per head or 397.8p per kg for a pair of new season Texels from AH Fisher, Merrick, Stranraer. They averaged 365.7p.

Prime hoggs levelled at 288.4p per kg having peaked at £163 for Texels off Hugh Hodge, Garfield or 366.7p for Beltex from J and R Semple, Netherton.

The 336 cast sheep were topped at £188 by a Beltex ewe from J Cousar, Howcommon, while rams sold to £156 for Dorsets from Rushaw.

On Tuesday, 166 prime and cast cattle were forward where heifers and bullocks averaged 252.5p and 250.1p respectively.

Top price per kg was 283p paid for a Limousin cross heifer from Burnockstone or to £1621.40 for a Charolais from Carskerdo.

Bullocks sold to 260p and £1742 for a Limousin from North Boig.

St Boswells

Bullocks (16) and heifers (53) balanced out at 247p and 251p per kg respectively, at Harrison and Hetherington’s sale, where prices peaked at £1728.72 from Nisbet and 278p from Bee Edge.

Cast entries were topped at £1381.88 from Butcherscote and 199p from Ruletownhead.

The six spring lambs forward levelled at 312p per kg, having peaked at £144 and 324p from Runningburn, whilst the 876 hoggs were topped at £171 for Suffolks from Boghall or 371.1p for Beltex from Waterside, to level at 305p.

Cast sheep averaged £104 and were topped at £153 on two occasions – for a Charollais from James Neil and Son, Runningburn and a Beltex from DA Dagg, Craighouse.

Haltree topped the rams at £133 with a North Country Cheviot.

Carlisle

Limousins topped Harrison and Hetherington's sale of 46 cattle, where bullocks were topped at £1900.61 and 258.5p for a 741kg Limousin cross from Messrs Bowe, Bothel Parks, Wigton, whilst heifers peaked at £1779.33 from Messrs Studholme, Nealhouse, Carlisle or 300p per kg for another of the same from Messrs Miller, High Aketon, Wigton.

A Limousin from Sarkshields Farm also led the cast cows at £1698 or to 224.5p per kg from Marina House.

The 145 of spring lambs were topped by Cardew Hall selling Beltex at £232 per head and 539.5p per kg.

Hoggs cashed in at 300p, with top prices of £186 paid for a Texel from JAW Wilshaw, Oulton Hall, Wigton or to 400p per kg for another of the same from Messrs Donaldson, Hazel House, Huby, Yorkshire.

Cast sheep sold to £175 for a Texel ram from Messrs Reid, Bengall.

Dingwall

Bullocks cashed in at 244.2p and sold to 250p for a 605kg Limousin cross from Ashley, North Kessock or to £1632.00 for a 680kg of the same cross from Kinchyle Farm, Scaniportd, at Dingwall and Highland Marts' sale

Heifers levelled at 237.4p with prices peaked at 256p for a 540kg Limousin cross from Bridgend Farm, Dingwall or to £1657.50 for a 750kg entry of the same cross from Kinchyle Farm, Scaniport.

The five new season lambs were topped at 258.3p and £133 for Zwartble crosses from The Paddock, Druim Temple Croft, Gorthleck, to average 258.3p.

The 360 old season lambs averaged 287.9p having sold to 312.9p for 42.5kg Texel crosses from Glebe Farm, Kiltarlity and to £147 for 47.5kg Texel crosses from 8 Englishtonmuir, Bunchrew.

Wigton

Prime sheep sold through Hopes Auctioneers' saw 73 new season lambs average 362.5p per kg, having sold to £187 for a 41kg Texel or 461.1p for a 36kg Texel, both P and N Tattersall, Town End Farm, York.

The 530 prime hoggs levelled at 307p with trade peaking at £212 and 474.8p for a Blue Texel from Messrs Fell, Stanger Hill.

The 83 cast sheep sold to £145 for a Texel from P and N Tattersall, Town Farm, Ellerton, while Texels led the tups at £119 from JN Harrison and Sons, Downhall.

Castle Douglas

On Tuesday, Wallets Marts sold 361 hoggs to balance out at 250p per kg with top prices of 317.4p for a Beltex hogg from Messrs Milroy, Mains of Machermore or £142.50 for heavy Texels from Messrs Craig, Compstonend.

The 194 cast sheep saw highs of £189 paid for a Texel ewe from Mains of Machermore.
