A Beef Shorthorn bull from Lucinda Townsend's Coxhill herd proved the star attraction on the second day of United Auctions' May multi-breed bull sales at Stirling, selling for the lead price of 10,000gns.

The sale for the Limousin, Salers, Beef Shorthorn and Aberdeen-Angus breeds, was topped by Coxhill Napoleon, a two-year-old polled roan bull from Coxhill Farm, Moffat. Backed by home-bred genetics on both sides, he is by Ballylinney Glenn, out of the Croxtonpark Orville daughter, Ballylinney Miss Ramsden, and sold to Robert Taylor, buying on behalf of Aucheneck Estates, Killearn, Glasgow.

Limousin bulls peaked at 7500gns for Ian and Moyra Nimmo and son Andrew's Maraiscote Paragon, a rising two-year-old from Bogside, Wishaw, backed by the best of bloodlines. The sire is the 50,000gns Bassingfield Machoman, while the dam is the Goldies Comet daughter, Maraiscote Jeanie. He sold to W Steel and Co, Cumberhead, Lesmahagow.

Just behind on 7200gns was the lead priced Aberdeen-Angus, Cardona Jewel Eric, from Robbie Galloway's 50-cow herd from Doune. An AI son of Rawburn Boss brought out by stockman Ewen McRobert, he was knocked down to W Mitchell and Sons, Hazelside, Douglas, Lanark. The dam is the show heifer, Cardona Jeweliot Erica by Cardona Esteem.

Top price amongst the Sales was 5200gns paid for Terrence Pye's Rigel Ozzie, a 25-month-old son of the French sire, Lascaux, from Yarm, Leven, purchased by J Gillies, Curacao, Kirkton, Taynuilt.

Overall, 25 Limousin bulls sold to average £4641, up £186.02 on the year; three Salers balanced at £4550 (+£525); seven Beef Shorthorns levelled at £5070.00 (+£2039.50) and 22 Aberdeen-Angus averaged £5245.00 (+£299.50).
