Two Cumbrian exhibitors making their debut in the pedigree cattle arena at Skipton Auction Mart landing principal honours at the Blue Wednesday show and sale of British Blue bulls and females.

Top Side Orion, from Brampton’s Ross and Elaine Pattinson, topped the sale at 5100gns, while the show championship fell to Ulverston’s Dean Saunders with Maidenlands Oxygen, which attracted the second highest bid at 4700gns.

The Pattinsons, who run the Top Side herd at Temon Farm, secured the lead price with an all-black ET son of Springbank Blackstar, bred from the Campagnard ET De St Fontaine cow, Lukeroyal Winnifred. Orion sold to local dairy farmer Nick Parker at Heights Farm, Silsden.

The AI sire Baron du Bois Bauloye was responsible for the pre-sale show champion from Mr Saunders, Tarn Flatt. His title-winning Maidenlands Oxygen is out of Maidendlands Kloe, and sold down to Cornwall at 4700gns, with husband and wife, Graham and Sarah Whiting in Horningtops, near Liskeard.

The nine bulls on parade, all 2019-born, averaged £4,305.
