Some 509 prime and cast sheep sold through Craig Wilson Marts, saw four spring lambs sell to £150 for Suffolks from P and A Wilson, Spoutwells and R and D Wilson, High Barness.

The 336 hoggs averaged 282.3p having sold to £149.50 for Cheviots from A and J Wright, Traboyack, with more Cheviots from MacTier Bros, Cairndoon, topping the pence per kg at 320.2p.

Cast sheep were topped at £160 for Texel ewes from James Maxwell, High Drumrae.

Wooler

All classes were dearer on the week at Harrison and Hetherington’s sale of 652 prime sheep, with spring lambs levelling at 345p per kg, with top prices of £153 and 365p paid for Texels from Broadmeadows.

Prime hoggs sold to £170 for a Suffolk from Newstead. Cast ewes hit £141 for a pair of Millennium Bleu ewes from Islay Hill.

Forfar

Limousins led the trade at Lawrie and Symington’s sale of 20 cattle, where bullocks (8) and heifers (12) balanced out at 244p per kg and 253p respectively.

Bullocks sold to 260p per kg for a 662kg British Blue from Nethermyres and to £1744.08 for a 676kg Limousin again from the same home.

Limousins also topped the heifers at 262p twice – for a 584kg Limousin from West Bog and then for a 540kg Limousin from Nethermyres or to £1530.08 for a 584kg Limousin from West Bog.

The first of the spring lambs forward sold to 315p and £136 for Suffolks from East Ingliston, while the 218 hoggs attained 329p for 47kg Beltex from Newmill of Inshewan and to £163 for a pair of 61kg Texels from Westhall to average 272p.

Westhall led the cast trade at £141 for Texel ewes, to level at £92.

Huntly

United Auctions sold 1618 prime sheep at their weekly sale at Huntly, where new season lambs averaged 297.3p having sold to 307p for 45kg Texels from Nether Dalachy, Spey Bay and to £151 for 50kg Texels from Mid Haddo, Fyvie.

Old season lamb entries cashed in at 277.8p per kg having achieved a top price per kg of 305p for 41.1kg Texels from Mid Street, Keith and to £147 per head for 57kg Texels from Bogenhilt, Forglen.

A top price of £175 was attained on two occasions amongst the cast sheep, for a Charollais ewe and secondly for a Beltex both from Messrs Ingram, Logie Durno.

Stirling (Cale)

At Caledonian Marts’ sale of 152 prime cattle, bullocks sold to 270p per kg for a Limousin from Learielaw and to £1763 for a Limousin from J Brown, Greencraig, Falkirk.

Heifers were topped at 275p for a Limousin from W Dandie and Sons, Learielaw, Broxburn or £1688 for a Limousin from A and M Barr, Easter Buchlyvie, Crossgates.

Bulls sold to 270p for a Limousin from Learielaw or £1763 for a Limousin from J Brown, Greencraig, Falkirk.

Limousins also led the OTMs which averaged 162p per kg having peaked at 225p for an entry from J and H Buchanan, Hardiston and to £1720 from JF and MB Teague, Buteland. Dairy types cashed in at 124p and sold to 170p from B Lawson, North Cassingray or to £1130 from T Greer, Wharlawhill, Fossoway.

The 19 young stirks and calves were topped by a Simmental bullock calf at £530 from J Drysdale, Forrestmill Farm, Forrestmill.

On Tuesday, the firm sold 753 sheep, where spring lambs balanced out at 345p per kg having sold to 386p for Suffolk crosses from J Robertson, Lathrisk, Freuchie and to £178 for Texels from E Robertson, Skeoch, East Kilbride.

Hoggs levelled at 297p with an SQQ of 301p, while selling to 324p and £157 for Cheviots from J McAlister, West Thomaston, Banknock.

The 255 cast sheep averaged £104 having peaked at £167 for continentals from Kinnaird.

Stirling (UA)

At United Auctions’ sale of 4903 sheep, Easter Ochtermuthill and Catcune led the new season lamb trade at £169 per head and 363p per kg for Texels respectively to average 334.69p.

Old season lambs sold to £161 for Beltex from Cuiltburn or to 358p for Texels from Harviesmailing, to level at 281.85p.

Texels topped the cast ewes at £188 from Halbeath, while rams sold to £160 for more of the same from Carrat.

Thainstone

Aberdeen and Northern Marts sold 10 bullocks to average 239.3p per kg with top prices of 255p for a 560kg Limousin cross from Whiteside, Tullynessle or £1650.75 for a 775kg Aberdeen-Angus cross from Hillside, Fetternear.

The 11 heifers levelled at 244.5p having sold to 275p for a 540kg Limousin cross and £1531.10 for a 610kg entry of the same breeding, both from Mains of Dumbreck, Udny.

Also sold were 56 finished beef cows which averaged £1390.98 having sold to £1670 for a 878kg Aberdeen-Angus cross from Lynegar, Watten, while 48 feeding beef cows levelled at £1102.65 and sold to £1390 for a 678kg Simmental cross from Raefin, Keith.

The 1392 old season lambs balanced out at 286.1p per kg and peaked at 322.9p and £155 for 48kg Beltex from Birkenbower, Lumsden, while the 568 feeding ewes and rams sold to £169 for Suffolks from Milltown of Birness, Ellon.

Longtown

At C and D Auction Marts’ sale, new season lambs sold to 385p per kg for Texels from GT Beattie, Guardsmill, Gretna, with a top per head price of £163 achieved for Suffolks from HM Martindale, The Land, Ecclefechan. They averaged 325.4p with an SQQ of 340.5p.

The 2723 hoggs balanced out at 298.6p with an SQQ of 308.1p having sold to 342p for Texels from D and Y Wilson, Plumpe, Gretna or £171 for a Beltex from J Robertson and Son, Becks, Langholm.

The 1845 ewes were topped at £208 for Texels from CJ Roots, Kilnford Croft, Dumfries, while rams were led by Suffolks from Heatherglen at £232.

Lanark

Lawrie and Symington’s sale of 122 cattle saw Limousin bullocks sell to 266p per kg from Messrs Gray, Balquharrage, Lennoxtown or to £1705 from Messrs Moffat, Hillend, Biggar.

Heifers peaked at 268p and £1622 for a Limousin from Messrs Dickinson, Brockwoodlees, Canonbie.

Spring lambs sold to £164 for Texels from Messrs Campbell, Strawfrank, to average 357p per kg.

Prime hoggs were topped at £168 for Beltex from Messrs Taylor, Southholm and to 400p for Beltex from the same home to level at 296p with an SQQ of 302p.

The 950 cast sheep reached a top of £234 for Texels from Messrs Gibson, Cowgrove.

Ayr

Craig Wilson’s sale of 1515 prime sheep on Monday saw prices peak at £176 on two occasions for new season Suffolks from Harpercroft and Texels from WHM and W Sloan, Mull of Galloway or to 395.5p per kg for Texels from the Sloan family. Lambs averaged 367.4p per kg.

Prime hoggs levelled at 287.3p per kg having peaked at £170 for Texels from Seaton Bros, Dalry or 353.2p for Beltex from M Stevenson, Balcaimie.

The 445 cast sheep were topped at £200 for Texels from B Notman, Redding Farm, while Texel rams attained £165 from J Yorke, Holms of Caaf and from A Lambie, Knockdaw.

On Tuesday, 18 prime and cast cattle were forward where heifers and bullocks averaged 256.3p and 227p respectively.

Heifers sold to 276p per kg for a Limousin cross from Chris Smith, North Boig, while steers peaked at 254p for another of the same breeding from Messrs Milller, High Gameshill.

St Boswells

Bullocks (16) and heifers (53) balanced out at 247p and 251p per kg respectively, at Harrison and Hetherington’s sale, where prices peaked at £1728.72 from Nisbet and 278p from Bee Edge.

Cast entries were topped at £1381.88 from Butcherscote and 199p from Ruletownhead.

The six spring lambs forward levelled at 312p per kg, having peaked at £144 and 324p from Runningburn, whilst the 876 hoggs were topped at £171 for Suffolks from Boghall or 371.1p for Beltex from Waterside, to level at 305p.

Cast sheep averaged £104 and were topped at £153 on two occasions – for a Charollais from James Neil and Son, Runningburn and a Beltex from DA Dagg, Craighouse.

Haltree topped the rams at £133 with a North Country Cheviot.

Carlisle

Limousins topped Harrison and Hetherington’s sale of 46 cattle, where bullocks were topped at £1900.61 and 258.5p for a 741kg Limousin cross from Messrs Bowe, Bothel Parks, Wigton.

Heifers peaked at £1779.33 from Messrs Studholme, Nealhouse, Carlisle or 300p per kg for another of the same from Messrs Miller, High Aketon, Wigton.

The 145 spring lambs were topped by Cardew Hall selling Beltex at £232 per head and 539.5p per kg.

Hoggs cashed in at 300p, with top prices of £186 paid for a Texel from JAW Wilshaw, Oulton Hall, Wigton or to 400p per kg for another of the same from Messrs Donaldson, Hazel House, Huby, Yorkshire.

Cast sheep sold to £175 for a Texel ram from Messrs Reid, Bengall.

Dingwall

Bullocks cashed 239.7p per kg at Dingwall and Highland Marts’ sale, having sold to 245p for a 595kg Limousin cross from Ashley, North Kessock and £1542.80 for a similarly bred 655kg entry from the same home.

Heifers balanced out at 244p, selling to 257p for a 580kg Limousin cross from Easter Hardmuir, Auldearn and £1642.55 for a 665g Charolais cross from Shoreton Farms, Culbokie.

The 36 new season lambs sold to 316.3p for a 43kg Charolais cross from Greenlands, Arabella and £139 twice for 44kg Charolais crosses from Greenlands Arabella and for 52.5kg Texel crosses from Keppoch Farm, Dundonnell, to average 292.4p.

The 621 old season lambs levelled at 292.8p, peaking at 329.5p for 44kg Texel crosses from South Clunes Farm, Kirkhill or £150 for a 77kg Beltex cross from Moy Bridge Croft, Wester Moy.

Wigton

Some 33 cattle sold through Hopes Auctioneers’ saw prices peak at 267.5p per kg for a Limousin heifer from W Miller, High Aketon.

The 130 spring lambs averaged 365p with a top price of £195 for a 48kg Beltex from Pat Rae, Greenah Hall, Langrigg or 446p for a 40kg Beltex from Craig and Judy Brough, 279 Durdar Road, Carlisle.

The 307 hoggs peaked at £190 for 54kg Blue Texels from Messrs Fell, Stanger Hill or to 384.2p for 38kg Beltex from R Skelton, New Hall.

Castle Douglas

Wallets Marts’ 634 prime sheep, saw hoggs cash in at 285.34p per kg with a top price of £162.50 paid for Suffolks from Messrs Picken, Galtway, Kirkcudbright.

Cast sheep sold to £193 for a Texel ram from Edgarton.

Orkney

Orkney Livestock Mart sold bullocks to 253p or £1492.70 for a 590kg Limousin from J and R Stanger, South Seatter, Sandwick, with heifers to 246p or £1316.10 for a Limousin from SMS Bain, Quoyholmslie, Stromness.

Prime hoggs peaked at 296p or £148 for Texels from THC Pottinger, Tuquoy, Westray, to average 267.9p.

Cast ewes sold to £150 for a Texel from J and E Linklater.
