Top prices of 50,000gns, 40,000gns, 30,000gns and a further 16 five-figure bids, made for a successful sale of pedigree Limousin bulls at Carlisle, where 98 sold to level at £8341 – believed to be a new breed record.

With 118 bulls forward for sale, clearance rates were an impressive 83%. Add in the top bulls being consigned by first time vendors, and new breeders buying at the female sale the previous night and it was a particularly good day for the breed.

Sale leader at 50,000gns was Everpark Partylight, from first time consignors, Jonathan and Tom Waring's herd from Park Farm, York. Their September 2019-born bull that stood intermediate champion the pre-sale show, is an AI son of the top breeding sire, Ampertaine Foreman.

Backed by the best of genetics on the female side, the dam is the foundation female Millington Highlight, a Wilodge Vantastic daughter bought in partnership with the Goulds from Woodmarsh, for 50,000gns. He sold in a two-way split to Esmor Evans, Mold, Wales and Will Tomlinson, Springfield, South Leverton, Notts.

Next was young Tom Summers' first bull sale at Carlisle, from Hall Farm, Somerby, Gainsborough, which made 40,000gns selling to Paul and Christine Tippetts, buying for their Wilodge herd from Shropshire. Selling at this price was Tillside Predator, a December 2019-born entry by Mereside Godolphin bred from the Larkhill Julius-sired Homebyres Nigella.

The sole entry from the Loughran family's Millgate herd from Dungate, Cookstown, Co Tyrone, made 30,000gns. Millgate Rob, brought out by Christine Loughran, is a 16-month-old son of Norman Ely, bred from the Lynderg Judge daughter, Millim Neve. He sold down to Wales with PJ and TA Jones, Ty-Isaf, Builth Wells.
