Carlisle

Harrison and Hetherington sold 1228 cattle at their weekly sale, where trade peaked at £1650 for a Limousin bullock from TB Stamper and Son, Rose Farm, Cockermouth.

Heifers were topped at £1650 for another Limousin from Kallum Hunt, Braithwaite Shields, Penrith.

A strong entry of 237 weanlings saw a British Blue bull from Messrs Burrows, Lodge Farm, top the section at £1380, while Messrs Ewart, Stone House, led the heifers at £1130 with an Aberdeen-Angus.

The weekly sale of 340 calves, witnessed a led call of £680 for a British Blue bull from Messrs Gardhouse, Aikton House.

Limousin cross heifers came out on top at United Auctions' weekly sale, reaching 473.40p per kg for a 338kg entry from Glenstockadale, and to £1720 for a 384kg heifer from Glenstockadale, to cash in at 243.37p.

Bullocks attained 341.80p for a 237kg Aberdeen-Angus cross from Mains of Tig, and to £1460 for a 571kg similarly bred animal from Wester Mye, to average 259.33p.

Young bulls cashed in at 243.35p, having sold to 284.10p for an Aberdeen-Angus cross from Mains of Tig, and to £1060 for a Charolais cross from Glenkiln.

The first lot in the ring, a 15-month-old pedigree Limousin bull made £3000 at Hope's Auctioneers' weekly sale for John Greenop, Bridgebank.

The pre-sale store cattle champion, a Limousin heifer from Ken and Chris Pears, Fellside House, achieved £1750.

Reserve was a Limousin bullock from JM Wharton and Son, Snade, which made £1265.

An Aberdeen-Angus cross heifer from Messrs Damerell, Lauder Barns, secured the lead price of £1520 at Harrison and Hetherington's fortnightly sale of store cattle.

Lead price per kg was 300p for another of the same, this time a bullock from Messrs Torrens, Pogbie.

Bullocks averaged 247p, with heifers cashing in at 230p.

Ewes and lambs were topped by Texel cross Cheviot Mule hoggs with Beltex lambs at foot which achieved £129 per life from PW Hedley, Swinside Townfoot.

Bullocks and heifers averaged 249.91p per kg and 239.8p respectively at Craig Wilson's sale of 547 store cattle.

Limousins led the heifers at £1620 for Netherton, Dalrymple, and to 288.9p from North Waterland.

Bullocks were topped at £1555 for a Limousin from Glendoune, and to 311.2p for Simmentals from Middleton, Neilston.

Also forward were 113 calves and stirks, which sold to £1080 for Aberdeen-Angus cross bullocks from GI and AM Livingston, Acholter.

Calves reached £590 for an Aberdeen-Angus cross bullock from G Sloan, Townhead, and to £545 for a Limousin cross heifer from James Hodge and Co, Bogwood.

The sale of 164 store hoggs and 174 ewes and gimmers with lambs at foot were also forward, saw store hoggs sell to £112 for Texel crosses from A Wright, Traboyack.

Ewes and lambs peaked at £242 on two occasions, firstly for Half-bred ewes with twins from S Rorison, Dallowie, and for Mule ewes with twin Texel lambs from W Easton, Brickrow.

Ewes with singles reached £218 for Texel crosses from Dallowie.

Forward condition cattle met a brisk demand with grazing cattle again sharper on the week at Aberdeen and Northern Marts' sale of 1552 store cattle, young bulls and young and weaned calves.

Bullocks sold to 333.3p per kg for 252kg British Blue crosses from Easter Aberchalder Estate, Gothlick, and to £1570 for a 742kg Charolais cross from East Mains, Lumphanan, to cash in at 250.8p.

Two 252kg British Blue crosses from Easter Abercharlder Estate, Gorthlick, topped the heifers at 365.1p, to average 245.1p.

Bulls sold to 257.5p for a 466kg Charolais from Milton of Collieston, Ellon, and to £1200 for more of the same weighing 574kg from Mormond Prop, New Pitsligo.

On Tuesday, a flying trade for bulling heifers saw averages improve by 26.8p per kg, to cash in at 287.3p, having sold to 471.5p and £1650 for a pair of 562kg Simmentals from Redhill, Mosstowie.

Breeding cattle met a flying trade with 35 outfits realising £3000 or more, to average £2694.39 for 148 lots.

A top price of £3800 was achieved on three occasions, firstly for a British Blue cross heifer with bull calf at foot from Towiemore, Keith, and then for Limousin cross heifers with heifer calves from Wester Bleaton, Bridge of Cally, and again from Towiemore.

A Limousin cow with bull calf sold to £3000 for Backfield, Drumlithie, whilst cows with heifer calves realised £2900 on three occasions, firstly for a Limousin cross from Seafield Park, Nairn, and twice for a Limousin cross from Wester Bleaton.

Hoggs with lambs at foot also sold well with ewes slightly dearer on the week to average £77.62 per life. Top price was £120 for Mule hoggs with singles from Bogiebrae, Rhynie.

Top price per kg was paid for an Aberdeen-Angus bullock when selling at 286.3p from Killumpha, Port Logan, with Limousin heifers attaining 285.7p from Ring of Barfad.

Breeding cattle were topped at £7000 by a Limousin bull from Messrs Hansell, Nether Barr, which sold to Messrs McClelland, Knockshinnoch.

Bulling heifers from Messrs Marshall, Auchenleck, were readily bid for selling to £1200 for a pen of British Blue heifers.

A British Blue heifer with Limousin heifer calf attained £3700 for Messrs Hamilton, Derrie, with the overall average for heifers with calves cashing in at just shy of £2300.
