A new centre record was achieved at United Auctions' sale of 4603 breeding sheep, when a pen of 22 Scotch Mule ewe hoggs from the Wight family, Townfoot, Midlock, realised £225 per head, selling to D Morrison, Dalwyne.

It was however, the Blackface ewe hoggs that came out on top at £480 for a pen of five from J Kay, Gass, purchased by Xander Ross, Strone, Newtonmore.

Texel ewe hoggs sold to £300 for a single pedigree Texel from Hartside Farms, now heading home with Moir Livestock, Cairness.

Averages remained strong on the year, with Mule ewe hoggs cashing in at £160.51 (+40.81 on the year); Texels balanced out at £165.38 (+6.25); with Cheviot Mules and Cheviots averaging £149.99 and £138.66 (+39.14) respectively. The Blackface ewe hoggs were the only breed to witness a fall on the year when cashing in at £133.27 (-7.00).
