A new centre record of 8500gns was achieved for a Salers bull at a society sale at Welshpool Livestock Centre when Shropshire breeders, father and son team, Fred and Bryn Robinson, Church Stretton, sold the 26-month-old Preenbank Orsino.
The bull, a son of the imported Jalabert, out of Preenbank Ismina, caught the eye of pedigree breeders, Harri, Sioned and Lora Jen Pritchard, buying for their Felin and Nebo herds from Llangybi, Pwllheli.
Just behind, on 5000gns, Terence and Jane Pye of Rigel Pedigree, Leven Fields, Yarm, sold Rigel Omega Poll to DL Williams and Son, Tonyrefail, Mid Glamorgan.
The Robinsons also topped the female trade with Preenbank Lola, a Seawell Frazer-sired cow with bull calf at foot, purchased by P and M Davies, Sennybridge, Brecon, for 1900gns.
averages:
Six bulls, £4897; 20 females, £1593.
