An array of 346 Holstein, Ayrshire, British Friesian, Montbeliarde, Fleckvieh, Brown Swiss and Pro Cross cattle were forward for the June Monthly Dairy Day sale at Borderway Mart, Carlisle, where trade peaked at £2600 for an 18-month-old Fleckvieh bull.

Aberdeenshire producers, Messrs Reid and Sons, Fraserburgh, purchased the bull, from SQ Fleckvieh Genetics, Dungannon, Co Tyrone. A horned entry by GS Wolwode, he is out of the dam, Sandra, and boasted a genomic proof with more than 1000kgs of milk.

Wreaywood Abbor April topped the female trade at £2100 for local breeders, Messrs Wilson, Woodside, Wreay, who sold 14 cows and heifers to average £1965. Their two-year-old heifer giving 32kg per day, is a daughter of Pine-Tree Arbor-Red, out of the VG86 classified dam, Coopon Oak April. Abbor April found a new home with Messrs Forrest, Annan.

Balcurvie Rabo Fennel, a December 2018-born cow by Lone-Oak-Acres Altarabo, secured £2020 for Fife-based Balcurvie Holsteins, Bankhead of Balcurvie, Windygate. She was purchased by Messrs Redmayne, Balderstone, Blackburn.

Topping the British Friesians at £2050 was a second lactation cow from Messrs Williamson, the Howes, Colby, Appleby in Westmorland. She sold to neighbouring breeders, Messrs Ellis.

Ayrshire cows and heifers sold to £1800 twice – for a heifer from the Lawrie family’s Cuthill Towers herd from Kinross and another heifer from the Stevensons herd from Stranraer.

The Birse family’s Holstein and cross-bred dairy herd from Drumraik, Creetown, peaked at £1950 on seven occasions, with youngstock selling to £1500 for a Montbeliarde heifer due in October to an Angus.

Holstein in-calf heifers due in the summer were topped at £1800 for an entry by Annandale Hastag from PRW Farming in Castle Douglas. She sold due to Flame, sexed for July.

Van Hummel’s youngstock dispersal of in-calf and bulling heifers from his Pro Cross herd from Germany, was topped at £1700 for a Norwegian Red-sired heifer due in the autumn.
