Some 664 store cattle were forward for Harrison and Hetherington's weekly sale, which saw steers sell to £1590 for a Limousin cross from Messrs Robinson, Gelt Hall, Brampton and heifers to £1460 for a Limousin from Messrs Brough, Clappers, Aspatria.

A Limousin and a Salers cross bull from Messrs Jamieson, Garrochtrie led the weaned cattle at £1100, whilst heifers peaked at £1010 for Limousin crosses from Messrs Hunter, Upper Brydekirk, Annan. Steers peaked at £1060 for a Simmental cross from Messrs McIntyre, Newton Stewart.

The weekly calf sale which sold to £620 for a Limousin bull calf from Messrs Lough, South Lough, with heifers to £600 from Messrs Nichol, Lawston, and dairy breds to £440 for a Fleckvieh from Messrs Copeland, Nether Collinhurst.

On Monday, the weekly sale of store lambs, was topped at £120 by Texels from TW and M Bird, Ghyll House Farm.

Topping the 80 rams forward at £700 was a Texel cross Beltex shearling from Messrs Toppin, Basco Dyke.

Averages were up on the year at Dingwall and Highland Marts' sale of 1009 weaned calves, where bullocks and heifers cashed in at 288.9p per kg (+26.5p on 2020) and 260.9p (+14p) respectively.

Bullocks sold to 409.8p per kg for a 205kg Charolais cross from Guisachan, Cannich, and to £1180 for a 545kg Limousin cross from Coast, Inverasdale.

A 226kg Simmental cross heifer from Dunlichity Farm, Farr, secured 354.0p, whilst a 360kg Limousin cross attained £1180 for Bualnaluib, Aultbea.

Young bulls (6) averaged 241.3p and sold to 293.8p for a 470kg Beef Shorthorn from Keppoch, Dundonnell, and to £740 for a 350kg Aberdeen-Angus cross from Strathaird Farms, Broadford.

The pre-sale show saw a 260kg Limousin cross land the championship for D MacLean, Bualnaluib, Aultbea, which later realised £1060.

The reserve went to a 310kg Limousin cross from I Grant, Seaview Cottage, Gairloch, which made £900.

Charolais crosses led the bullocks at 290.00p for a 300kg entry from Corsencon, and to £1485 for a 623kg beast from Balegreggan.

Heifers peaked at 260.20p for a 442kg Charolais cross from High Glentriplock, and to £1590 for a 624kg Limousin cross from Killeonan.

Young bulls (9) averaged 194.39p and sold to 209.70p for a Blonde cross from East Balscalloch, and to £1100 for an Aberdeen-Angus from Lower Luthrie.

On Monday, the firm held their sale of 1770 suckled calves along with 5014 store lambs and feeding sheep.

Spring-born bullock calves averaged 286.0p having sold to 341.9p for a 310kg Charolais cross from Dippen, and to £1310 for a 489kg Charolais cross from Assloss.

Heifers balanced out at 264.0p and were topped at 311.3p for a 302kg Limousin cross from Cairncurran, and to £1150 for 434kg Charolais crosses from Shanry.

Autumn-born bullocks and heifers achieved an average of 257p and 247p respectively.

Charolais crosses weighing 401kg topped the bullocks at 299.0p for Hunting Faulds, and to £1400 for 471kg Limousin crosses from Mains of Creuchies.

Heifers peaked at 272.5p for 412kg Charolais crosses from Hunting Faulds, and to £1220 for a 516kg Simmental cross from Shanry.

Beltex led the store lambs selling to £120 for Lochelbank. Beltex crosses averaged £96.99 (+£2.91 on the week), whilst Texel crosses and Mules cashed in at (+£4.58) and £84.79 (+£0.77). Suffolk crosses averaged £88.90 (+£2.18), Cheviots at £83.69 (£7.18) and Blackfaces at £61.93 (+£1.20).

On Tuesday, Craig Wilson held their weekly sale of 88 calves and stirks, where a top price of £480 was achieved for a Charolais cross heifer from R Noble, Crossgates.

Bull calves sold to £470 on two occasions for Limousin crosses from A Paton and Co, Craig Farm. Stirks realised £920 for a Limousin cross heifer from Ian Ballantyne, Rockie Park, whilst bullocks hit £850 for a Shorthorn from JD McMillan, Eskechraggan.

Among the dairy section, a freshly calved Holstein Friesian heifer from Jack Craig & Co, Tannockhill, sold for £2000.

Some 1418 store cattle, young bulls and weaned calves went under the hammer at Aberdeen and Northern Marts' weekly sale, where bullocks and heifers levelled out at 237.4p per kg and 232.3p respectively.

Bullocks weretopped at 279.8p per kg for a 386kg Limousin cross from Ashley Cottage, Lyne of Skene, and to £1570 for a pair of 686kg Charolais crosses from Feaval, Birsay.

Charolais crosses led the heifers selling to £1380 twice – for a 598kg entry from Downiehills, Blackhills, and again for a 618kg beast from Newton of Auchindoir, Rhynie. Top price per kg was 289.9p paid for a 376kg Simmental cross from Bunchrew Home Farm, Inverness.

Bulls sold to 210.5p for a 380kg Simmental cross from Grassmiston Farm, Crail, and to £1200 for a 616kg Simmental cross from Auchencrieve Farm, Methlick.

Weaned bullocks and heifers balanced out at 257.3p (+15.1p on the year) and 254.6p (+18.8p) respectively.

Bullocks sold to 698.1p and £2150 for a 308kg Limousin cross from Pittentian, Crieff, whilst heifers hit 526.3p for a 380kg Limousin cross from Pittentian, and to £2100 for a 410kg British Blue cross from Balgairn Farm, Ballater.

Champion at the show and sale of weaned and suckled calves was awarded to a 410kg British Blue heifer from G and J Greenlaw, Balgairn, Ballater, which realised £2100, whilst the blue and white sash was given to a 514kg Limousin cross steer from N Meldrum, Shenval, realising £1300.

Top price outwith the championship was £2150 for a 308kg Limousin cross steer from Pittentian, Crieff.

Also forward were 1812 island consigned store and breeding sheep, where Texels from North Gardie, Aith, topped the sale at £121.

Store lambs realised £100 for Suffolks from Aithsetter, Cunningsburgh.

On Tuesday, the firm also held their weekly sale of 5289 store, island lambs and breeding sheep, where Beltex lambs from Strathore, Shapinsay, topped at £132.

On Tuesday, the firm's fortnightly sale of 519 store cattle, saw bullocks and heifers average 222.76p per kg and 211.7p respectively.

Sale leader at £1530 was a 612kg Limousin from South Carnduff, while 442kg Charolais heifers from Parkerston sold at 234.2p per kg.

Bullocks weretopped at £1340 for a 706kg Aberdeen-Angus from Townend, and to 258.5p for 410kg Limousins from Bickerton Hall.

Weaned bullocks (59) averaged 236.9p and sold to 300.5p for a 193kg Beef Shorthorn cross from Urgha, Isle of Harris, and to £890 for a 380kg Limousin cross from Lower Barvas, Stornoway.

Aberdeen and Northern Marts sold 492 weaned calves, 93 store and 56 breeding cattle, where the championship was awarded to a 305kg Limousin cross heifer from J and A Chalmers, Glenburnie, Hill of Forss, Thurso, which later realised £1850.

Reserve was a 414kg Limousin cross bullock from G Sutherland, The Antlers, Occumster, Lybster, which made £1460.

Out with the show, weaned bullocks and heifers averaged 275.3p (+ 18.4p on the year) and 260.5p respectively.

Limousins led the weaned bullocks which sold to 466.9p for a 414kg entry from Quintfall, Lyt, and to £1460 for a 414kg beast from The Antlers, Occumster. Heifers were topped at 606.6p and £1850 for a 305kg Limousin from Glenburnie, Hill of Forss.

Aberdeen-Angus crosses topped the store bullocks at 279.2p for a 283kg entry from Larel, Halkirk, and to £1490 for a 681kg lot from Torbeg, Dunbeath.

Heifers peaked at 250.6p and £1190 for a 407kg and 557kg Charolais crosses respectively, from Forsie, Bridge of Westfield.

Breeding cattle sold to £2300 for an Simmental cross cow with Charolais cross bull calf at foot from Keiss Mains, Keiss.

Broughton

On Tuesday, Harrison and Hetherington's show and sale of suckled calves, saw a Limousin bullock top the trade at £1140 for Messrs Ellwood, Everard Lodge, with heifers selling to £1100 from the same home.

Champion at the pre-sale show was a British Blue bullock from RD Holland and Co, Low Scale, which later realised £950.

The blue and white ticket was presented to a Limousin heifer from M and AM Irving and Son, Dove Ford, which made £1000.

Castle Douglas

On Monday, store cattle from Messrs Robb, Trolane, proved popular at Wallets Marts's sale, when topping both the bullocks and heifers at £1370 for Simmentals and £1700 for British Blues respectively.

Top pence per kg at 269.3ppk was paid for Simmentals bullocks from Messrs Brown, Drumhumphry, and to 234.6p for Charolais heifers from Messrs Henderson, Breconside.

Breeding cattle sold to £2250 on two occasions, for heifers and calves at foot from Messrs Fisher, Flathill.

Also forward were the Autumn calving cows being dispersed from Messrs Parker, Mill of Plunton, which topped £2150 for a Limousin second calver and her bull calf.

Store lambs hit a high of £106.50 for Texels from West Glenstockadale.
