Some 891 prime lambs sold to average 278.7p at Craig Wilson Auction Marts' sale, with Texels leading the charge at £140 from H and J McCulloch, Dunkeld, M McBurney, South Clutag and HS Mac Tier, Boghouse.

Top price per kg was 312.2p for Beltex from A and J Wright, Traboyack.

The 218 Blackface lambs cashed in at 276.9p with Drannandow Farms dominating leading at £125.50 and 292.9p.

Prices peaked at £132 among the cast sheep for Suffolk from H Vance, Mid Skeog and Beltex ewes from RJ Fleming, South Milton, while tups attained £107 for Suffolks from J and A McCornick, Drumjargon.

Cockermouth

Mitchells Livestock Centre held their weekly sale of primestock with 16 cull cows selling to 184p and £1072.72 for a British Blue from Messrs Dixon, Ewanrigg, Maryport.

The 1145 prime lambs on offer peaked at £196 paid for a Beltex lamb from JA and CM Brown, Parkhouse, Isel or to 370.2p for a Texel from AG and KF Nicholson, Swinside End, Lorton.

A smaller entry of ewes reached a top of £200 for a Texel from BJ Harrison, Beck Farm, Wigton and rams sold to £156 for more of the same from Beck Farm.

Penrith

Last week, Penrith and District Farmers' Mart's sale attracted 3653 sheep, where 1808 prime lambs balanced out at 296p having sold to 378p for a pen of 37kg Beltex from West Scottish Lamb or to £160 for a pen of 45kg Texel cross Beltex lambs from G Cartmel, Hollands.

A smaller show of cast ewes achieved £250 for a pair of Texels from Greenacres Farm, to average £105.57.

Wooler

Harrison and Hetherington's sale of 753 prime lambs averaged 312p with a pair of Beltex topping the trade at £168 and 403p from JR Walton, Grange Moor.

Cast ewes achieved a new centre record price of £235 for a Texel from IF Murray and Partners, Shepherds Cottage, whilst cast tups sold to £165 for an Abermax from Reston and Berwick Farming Co Ltd.

Dumfries

A Limousin cross heifer from J Jardine, Yett, led C and D Auction Marts' sale of prime cattle at 270p, while bullocks sold to £1629.25 for another of the same from Fauldingcleugh.

Limousins also led the cast cattle at £1159.20 from Catslackburn and 190p from Ballaggan.

The 413 prime lambs saw prices peak at £140 and 314p for Texels from Monaliadh, to average 290.8p.

North Cowshaw led the cast ewes and rams with Texels and Suffolks attaining £165 and £208, respectively.

Forfar

A smaller show of 304 lambs were forward at Lawrie and Symington's primestock sale, with trade topping at £163 for a pen of three 53kg Texels from PM Sharp, Nether Logie.

Top price per kg was 334p on two occasions, firstly for a 47kg Suffolk from WK and P Drysdale, Middle Drimmie and then for a pair of 44kg Texels from D and I Mackintosh, Kirkton of Kingoldrum. Lambs averaged 280.2p.

Texels led the ewes at £198 from Hatton of Carse.

Huntly

United Auctions sold 490 prime lambs to balance out at 253.6p having reached a top of 294p and £138 for 47kg Beltex crosses from Hilton of Culsh, New Deer.

Ewes met a dearer trade, to level at £98.49, peaking at £242 for a Charollais from Logie Durno, Pitcaple.

Stirling (Cale)

Beltex from DS and RC Taylor, Easter Ochtermuthill, Muthill, led Caledonian Marts' sale of 1281 prime lambs at £154 and 313p per kg. The sale averaged 268p.

Cast ewes achieved a top of £175 for Texels from Ann Wright, Laverock, Kilmacolm, while tups sold to £165 for a Texel from DM Scott, West Kirkton.

Stirling (UA)

Beltex took the top prices at United Auctions' sale of 3408 prime lambs, attaining £156 for Easter Ochtermuthill and 362p per kg from Doune Farms, to level at 279.65p.

A top price of £248 was paid amongst the cast ewes for Texels from West Lethans, while rams reached £186 for more of the same form Harley Seeds.

Thainstone

Prime cattle forward for Aberdeen and Northern Marts' weekly sale, saw prices peak at 247p for a 620kg Limousin cross from Hillocks, Whiterashes and to £1583.30 for a 710kg Limousin cross from New Mains, Glenkindie, to balance out at 229p.

The firm also sold 14 beef feeding cows to average £1081.78 having sold to £1350 for an 802kg pure Limousin from Kirkhill, Alves or to 209p for a 610kg British Blue cross from Fodderletter, Tomintoul.

Some 1112 lambs levelled at 257.5p having sold to 291.5p for 41kg Beltex from Eastside of Shevado, Maud or £152 for 68kg Texels from Mains of Knapperna, Udny.

The 203 feeding sheep sold to £211 for Texel ewes from Mains of Knapperna, to balance out at £88.98.

Longtown

AT C and D Auction Marts' sale of 3761 prime lambs, Beltex from DS and RC Taylor, Easter Ochtermuthill, Crieff topped the trade at 445p or to £185 for more of the same from Messrs Patterson, Home Head Farm, Castle Douglas.

Lambs averaged 291p with an SQQ of 296.6p.

Trade was a flyer among the cast ewes where prices peaked at £250 for Texels from Highfield Farming, Knock, Duns, and rams to £200 for Charollais from Viewley.

St Boswells

Texels and Beltex from Sunnycroft and Faughhill, led Harrison and Hetherington's lamb sale at £160 and 323.8p, respectively, to balance out at 278p.

Topping the cast tups at £200 was a Texel from the Firm of ASM Farming, Wauchope Farm, while ewes peaked at £165 for a Texel from Will Clark and Son, Upper Bolton.

Lanark

A large show of 4154 prime lambs was forward at Lawrie and Symington's sale, where prime lambs were topped at £158 for Suffolks from I Laird, Yeldabreck and to 352p for Beltex from R Bell and Partners, Craigow, to average 278p.

A new centre record was set amongst the cast sheep at £300 from W and C Ingram, Logie Durno.

Ayr

Craig Wilson Marts' sale of 2040 prime lambs levelled at 274.7p with prices reaching to £150 on four occasions.

First were Beltex from James Shennan and Son, Knockgerran followed by Texels from HS Watson and Co, Laigh Tarbeg, Suffolks from James M Thomson and Son, Blairbowie and Beltex from Borland Farms.

Top price per kg was 341.5p paid for a pair of Beltex from J and R Mitchell, Fowler.

The 267 cast ewes reached a top of £155 for a Texel from Keyshill, with tups making £150 for a Charolais off St Murray.

Kirkby Stephen

Harrison and Hetherington sold 2936 prime lambs to a top at £179 for a pen of nine 44kg Beltex crosses from Messrs Simpson, Highscale Farm, Wigglesworth or to 415.10p for a pen of 10 43kg Beltex crosses from the same home.

Cast sheep sold to £222 for a Texel cross ewe from Messrs Reed, Lands Farm, Bishop Auckland.

Castle Douglas

On Tuesday, Wallets Marts sold 1773 prime lambs to average 265.59p per kg with an SQQ of 270p.

Top price was £140 paid for Texels from Calli and George Fisher Flathill or to 308.5p for Beltex lambs from Messrs Hogan, Maryholm.

Cast ewes sold to £222 for Texels from Messrs Black Hillside.
