The 424 hoggs cashed in at 252.8p with prices peaking at £169 for a pen of Texels from JR Howie, Auchentibbert or to 311.6p for Beltex from A and J Wright, Trayboyack, while the 110 Blackface reached £120 from Messrs Watson, High Mark and 294.7p fromnJ Howatson, Risk, to balance out at 265.9p.

Cast sheep peaked at £250 for Texel crosses from JR Howie, Auchentibbert with tups topping at £195 for Texels off High Eldrig Farm Ltd.


Harrison and Hetherington’s spring lamb sale topped with pen of Texels at £135 from Yetlington Lane, with trade levelling at 250p with an SQQ of 268p.

A top price of £243 was achieved within the cast ewe ring for a Suffolk from Moor and Son Ltd, Nesbit Farmhouse, while cast tups sold to £237 for a Texel from S Shell and Son, Brandon.


A smaller show of prime cattle were on offer at C and D Auction Marts’, with trade topping at 286p for a Limousin cross heifer from J Jardine, Yett.

OTM’s cashed in at 193.6p having sold to 1689.25 for an Aberdeen-Angus from Brickhouse or to 241p for a Limousin from Lantonside.

Prime hoggs achieved £174 for Texels from Tinwald Shaws or 300p for more of the same from Ballaggan, to level at 284.1p.

Suffolks from New Farm led the cast ewes at £188, while tups sold to £182 for Charollais from Lochhill.


Limousin-bred cattle led the prime section of Lawrie and Symington’s weekly sale, with bullocks reaching 278p for a 508kg Limousin from the Gask and to £1867.30 for a 710kg entry from Barns of Airlie, to average 270p.

Heifers sold to 285p for a 588kg animal from West Bog and to £1796.34 for a 658kg Limousin from Greenhead, to level at 274p.

A pen of six 43kg Beltex from CL Wylie, Balbrydie led the hoggs at £146 and 339.5p, to cash in at 269p.

Shandford led the cast ewe and ram trade selling Suffolk and Texels to top the ewes at £175, while Texels sold to £214.


United Auctions sold 1572 to balance out at 247.1p having sold at 295p for 42kg Beltex crosses from Cairncoullie, Glenkindie and to £140 for 76kg Texels from North Dorlaithers, Turriff.

Cast sheep peaked at £224 for a Texel cross ewe from Messrs Linton, Auchanland, Cornhill.

Stirling (Cale)

All classes of cattle sold well at Caledonian Marts', where heifers cashed in at 270p and sold to 300p for a British Blue from M Orr and Son, Penston or to £2077 for a Limousin from W Dandie and Sons, Learielaw.

Bullocks levelled at 258p having peaked to 300p and £1944 for more of the same from W Dandie and Sons.

OTMs averaged 197p and achieved a high of 246p for a Limousin from T Hamilton, Bridge House and to £1980 for a Charolais from J Drysdale, Kinnesswood, while dairy types reached 195p and £1220 from J Ralston, Kilkivan, to average 160p.

The marts' sale of new season lambs cashed in at 321p, with hoggs balancing out at 275p.

Lambs sold to 323p and £160 for a pair of Suffolks from J Wilson, Balhelvie, with hoggs achieving 386p and £162 for Beltex from DS and RC Taylor, Easter Ochtermuthill.

The sale of cast sheep topped at £288 for a Texel tup from KR and JMA Gauld, Cairn, Muthill, while ewes peaked at £268 for Texels from Letter.

Stirling (UA)

Menteith and Nethermill led United Auctions spring lamb trade at £156 from for Suffolks and 336p for Texels, respectively, to average 316.6p.

Beltex and Suffolk crosses from Cultburn topped the hogg trade at £184 and 298p, to cash in at 270.2p.

The 1006 cast ewes hit £266 for Suffolks from Woodhead of Cairness, with tups achieving £168 for more of the same from Easter Upper Urquhart.


All types of prime cattle sold well at Aberdeen and Northern Marts, with bullocks levelling at 242.9p having sold to 265p for a 550kg Limousin from Whiteside, Tullynessle, and £1860.45 for a 785kg Charolais from Muirhill Farm, Longhaven.

Heifers averaged 248.7p and peaked at 269p for a 515kg Limousin from Newton of Drum, Drumoak, and £1799 for a 700kg similar animal from Hillocks Whiterashes, while four young bulls attained 289p and £2051.90 for a 710kg Limousin from Turfhill, Auchtylai, to cash in at 244.5p.

Limousins also dominated in the rough ring, with beef finished cows averaging £1713.28 and trade topping at £2250 for a 909kg Limousin from Easter Clune, Lethen, while beef feeding cows balancing out at £1277.32 and peaking at £1770 for a 744kg Limousin from St Johns Wells, Fyvie.

The firm also sold 3276 prime hoggs to level at 262.5p having sold to 333.3p for 39kg Beltex from Keera, Middlehill and £145.50 for 51kg Texels from Balnault Farm, Crathie, whilst feeding sheep achieved £281.50 for Texels from Milton of Durris, Durris to average £133.09.


C and D Auction Marts’ sale of 3926 hoggs witnessed Beltex top the trade at 373p from S and M Pickworth, Dotland Park, Hexham or to £195 for Texels from by AR Bell and Son, Kirkton, Hawick, with the section balancing out at 278p with an SQQ of 291.3p.

Feeding sheep cashed in at £137.93 with ewes selling to £248 for Texel ewes from C and I Angus, Oldfield, Thurso.

Rams topped at £268 for Texels from A and D Bell, Mossband Hall, Longtown.

St Boswells

Harrison and Hetherington sold bullocks and heifers to average 266p and 279p, respectively.

Whitrighill and Bee Edge led the bullocks at £2229.12 and 288p, while heifers sold to £1897.20 from Bee Edge and 316p from Lennoxlove.

Cast cows reached £2145.26 from Honeyburn or to 249p from Greenknowe, to balance out at 207p.

Charollais from Ladyflat led the prime lambs at £140 and 300p, to balance out at 290p, while Beltex from Faughhill led the hoggs at £154 or 312.3p, to level at 253p.

Cast sheep peaked at £215 for a Suffolk ewe from 1 Noble Place, Hawick, while tups sold to £179 for a pair of Texels from JJ Patterson, Kirktonhill.


Limousins from Messrs Dickinson, Brockwoodlees, Canonbie led Lawrie and Symington’s prime heifers trade at 312p or to £1982 for more of the same from Messrs Wainwright, Todhall, Cupar.

Bullocks sold to 306p per kg from Brockwoodlees again, while beef cows peaked at £2250 and 260p for Limousins from Messrs Cruikshank, Little Kype, Strathaven.

Dairy types made £1555 for Holstein Friesians from Messrs Lennox, Netherholm, Strathaven or to 203p for more of the same from Greentowers Farm, Lanark.

A small show of 44 calves witnessed beef bulls reach £355 for a pair of Aberdeen-Angus from Kerrytonlia, with beef heifers peaking at £330 twice for Simmentals from Balglass.

Dairy bulls sold to a top of £65 for a Holstein from Kerrytonlia.

Some 3836 hoggs topped at £172 for Beltex from Taylor Heatheryhall and to 382p for Beltex from same home, to level at 272p with an SQQ of 280p.

Cast ewes enjoyed the dearest trade of the day at £304 for Texels from Laird Yeldabrek.


A large show of 1896 hoggs sold to average 262.9p with an SQQ of 277.5p at Craig Wilson Marts, with top price of the day being £156 and 339.1p paid for Beltex from T Stevenson, Balcaimie Farm, whilst the 630 Blackfaces cashed in at 268p having sold to £125.50 from A Templeton, Low Drumclog and 291.7p for a pen of 30 from J Sloan, Dormieston.

Charollais-bred sheep led the consignment of eight spring lambs which balanced out at 3.253p and attained £159 from J Andrew, Rowanston and to 3.537p for a pair from A Kendall, Back Hareshaw.

The 392 cast sheep soar to £305 for Texels from the Gilmour family from Humeston Farm, whilst cast tups peaked at £226 for a pen of three Texels from T Smith, Laigh Borland.

The firm also held the sale of 13 prime heifers which witnessed trade top at 303p for a British Blue cross from the Smith Family, North Boig and 301p for a Limousin cross from the same home, to average 273p.

In the rough ring, cast bulls peaked at £1560 for a black Limousin from R Briggs, Kilhenzie and 175p for a Limousin from M Service, Moorpark, while beef cows sold to £1900 and 268p for a Limousin cross from Messrs Young, Girvan Mains.

Dairy types achieved £1400 on two occasions, firstly for a Holstein cross from Messrs Young, Muirhouses and then for a Friesian from E McErlean, MacNairston.


Limousins led the prime cattle sale held at Harrison and Hetherington, with steers selling to £2127.23 for a 753kg cross from Messrs Bowe, Bothel Parks and to £293.5p for a 668kg cross from Messrs Hewetson, Lords Close, Maryport.

Heifers saw trade reach £2180 for a 780kgs Limousin from Messrs Norman, Little Orton, Carlisle or 301.5p for a 563kg cross from Messrs Little, Greenhill, Wigton.

British Blues from Birdswood Farm led the cast cows at £2850 and 284.5p.

Some 64 spring lambs sold to £148 or 389.5p for a Texel lamb from D and J Richardson, Whitehead Brow, while the 1062 hoggs reached £176 and 425p for a Texel cross from J Fell, Stranger Hill.

Topping the cast ewe sale at £196 was a Beltex from Messrs Bennett, Ellonby Hall with tups topping at £194 for a Texel from Messrs Watson, Beech House.


Six heifers were on offer at Dingwall and Highland Marts’ sale of prime cattle which averaged 252.3p with prices peaking at 258p and £1780.20 for a 690kg Charolais cross from Shoreton Farms Culbokie.

The 1008 prime hoggs reached a top of 295.7p for a pair or 47kg Beltex crosses from Torgorm, Conon Bridge and to £141 for a 57kg Texel cross from Enyhallow, Conon Bridge, to balance out at 267p, while feeding sheep sold to £262 for a Texel ewe from Wester Moy, Urray.

Castle Douglas

On Tuesday, Wallets Marts sold 510 hoggs to average 272.91p with an SQQ of 282.79p. Too price of the day was £156.50 paid for Texel from Douganhill and to 334.5p for Beltex from Messrs McKie, Finniness.

A small show of spring lambs peaked at £151.50 for Suffolks from Messrs Torbet, Whitecrook and to 288.2p for Zwartable from Messrs Smith, Barmurrie.

Beltex from Messrs Fosyth, Corra led the cast ewe trade at £215, while rams made £179 for a Cheviot from Messrs Watson, Slatehouse.
