All classes met a strong demand at Harrison and Hetherington's weekly sale, which achieved a top price of £2700 for a Limousin heifer from Messrs Fowlie, Guise.

Limousins also led the bullocks at £1960 for Messrs Stamper, Rose, Cockermouth.

A Simmental bull led the weaned cattle at £1300 for Gerrard House Farm Ltd, Wigton, whilst heifers were up to £1260 from Messrs White, Sandford Hall.

British Blues from Messrs Fisher, Smalmstown, dominated the weekly sale of 440 calves, with bulls selling to £530 on two occasions and heifers attaining £525.

On Monday, the firm held their weekly sale of store and breeding sheep, which achieved a top price of £190 per head for a Dutch spotted cross hogg with ewe lambs at foot from Messrs Errington, Hunley.

Heifers led the way at United Auctions' weekly store cattle sale, when selling to 301.10p per kg for a 279kg Limousin cross from Gibblaston, and to £1700 for a 710kg Charolais cross from Haughhead, to cash in at 235.76p.

Among the bullocks trade peaked at 294.60p for an 404kg Aberdeen-Angus cross from Balgonar, and to £1690 for more of the same breed weighing 774kg for Walesley, to average 250.9p.

Young bulls averaged 223.21p having sold to 241.10p for a Limousin cross from Easterton, and to £1480 for a Charolais cross from Easterton.

On the sheep front, Texel store hoggs led proceedings at £119 for Altgolach, whilst Mule gimmers with twin lambs at foot from Mill of Inverarity made £96.

On Monday, the firm sold 343 breeding cattle, which topped at £5200 for a British Blue heifer with heifer calf at foot from West Thomaston. The same home sold a continental cross heifer with bull calf at foot for £4400.

Top price of £1590 was paid for Simmental bullocks from Macmanniston, and to 327.3p for Limousins from Carnbroe Estate.

Limousins dominated the heifers at £1480 and 288.5p for South Craigton, and Carnbroe Estate, respectively.

A joint top price of £265 was achieved, firstly for a pen of Mule ewes with Dutch Spotted twin lambs at foot from W and M Gemmell, Drumdow, and again for Mule gimmers with twin Beltex lambs from R Lammie, Creagraineach.

Texels led the hogg trade at £96 for Saitech Estate, Whitehill.

On Tuesday, just four Dairy cattle came through the ring, selling to a top of £2250 for a freshly calved Holstein Friesian from Messrs Logan, Holehouse.

A large show of 194 calves and stirks, witnessed trade peak at £1090 for a Charolais cross bullock stirk from A and J McIlwrick, Balmurrie, whilst heifer stirks peaked at £840 for Limousin crosses from John L McCubbin and Son, Garrockhill.

Limousin crosses from G and F Halley, Kilbank, dominated the calves, selling bulls and heifers to £650 and £525 respectively.

The firm also sold 152 breeding cattle this week, where bulls topped at 3700gns for an Aberdeen-Angus from Assloss.

Heifers achieved 301p for a 412kg Charolais cross from Milton of Noth, Rhynie, and to £1650 for a 696kg Simmental cross from Overton, Mid-Clyth, to cash in at 242.4p.

Continental ewes with single lambs at foot made £130 for Bogiefeulach, Tornaveen, which balanced out at £76.22.

A British Blue heifer from Midtown secured the top price of £1380 at C and D Auction Marts' fortnightly store cattle sale.

Heifers and bullocks cashed in at 220.4p per kg and 240.4p respectively, with bullocks having sold to £1360 for a Beef Shorthorn from No2 Tregallon.

On Monday, the firm held their monthly sale of dairy cattle which achieved a top price of £2000 for a freshly calved in-milk Montbeliarde cross Holstein heifer from Messrs Burgoyne, Shenrick, Crocketford.

Another Montbeliarde cross fresh calved heifer from the same home took the May Show championship and sold for £1950.

A nice selection of in-calf Ayrshire heifers made £1300 for JDM Thomson Newlands.

Among the female front, it was Simmentals from R McNee, Woodend, Armadale, that secured the top price of 262p, whilst a Limousin from R Rodger, Knockraich, Fintry, made £1390, with this section averaging 288p.

Also forward were 172 store and feeding sheep, which sold to £124 for Texel stores from High Town, Low Row, whilst Greyface feeding ewes attained £112, for Hamburn Hall.
