Caledonian Marts sold 159 prime cattle in conjunction with their Limousin show and sale, where judge Jim McKechnie found his overall champion in the form of a 602kg heifer from W Dandie and Son, Learielaw that later topped the sale at 295p and £1776.

The same home claimed the reserve rosette for a 690kg Limousin bullock which sold topped the per head section amongst the bullocks at £1945, while a Limousin from TH Gray, Balquharrage, Lennoxtown reached 295p.

Bulls attained 275p and £2063 for a Limousin from M Jack, Carriston, Star of Markinch.

The 64 OTM's levelled at 178p having peaked at 242p and £1830 for a British Blue from R and M Paterson, Upper Auchenlay, while dairy types cashed in at 160p and reached 180p and £1150 from W and M Wylie, Broompark.

Cast males sold to £1680 for a Limousin from A and T Grant, West Mains and to 163p for a Simmental from R Turner, Strath, Campbeltown, while calves and stirks achieved a top of £690 for a Charolais from J Gilvear and Sons, Graystale.

Black and whites peaked at £150 for one-month-old calves from G Reade, Sgriob-Ruadh, Mull.

The firm also sold 761 prime stock, with lambs making 392p for a Texel from PG Perring and Son, Hoprig Farm, Cockburspath and to £176 for K Fraser, Pitcairlie Farm, Auchtermuchty, to level at 335p.

Hoggs sold to a top of 300p for a cross-bred entry from Marshall Farming Partnership, Borlick and to £160 for a pen of Texels from J Gilvear and Sons, Graystale, Stirling.

A top price of £215 was paid amongst the ewes for a Texel from RM and CM Squair, Lower Killernie,

Saline, while rams sold to £152 for a BFL from AJE Robb, Townhead and again for a Zwartable from G Stuart, West Thomaston.
