Scottish breeders produced most of the top priced lots at Harrison and Hetherington's Monthly Dairy Day sale at Carlisle, with Gavin Struthers, Bankhead of Balcurvie, Fife, selling the sale leader, Balcurvie Silver Missy America, for £3400.

This fresh heifer is by Seagull-Bay Silver, out of Netherside Miss America 17 and sold to Messrs Millar and Son, Lockerbie.

Mr Struthers sold 16 heifers to cash in at £2412, which included Balcurvie Rager Red Penelope that made £2700 when selling to Messrs Spedding, Carlisle, Cumbria. They got for their money a Ri-Val-Re Rager-Red daughter.

Brian and Craig Davidson, Errolston, Gretna, sold the second equal highest priced lot at £2800 again to Messrs Spedding. This was Errolston Robin Ayr, a third calver giving 50kg by Errolston Robin, out of Errolston PB Ayr.

Matching that price, the Baillies from Hillhead, Lanarkshire, sold a fresh heifer giving 43kg to Messrs Campbell and Co, Kelton, Castle Douglas. She is by AR Diepenhoek Rozzer, and out of Covington Corinthian Clarissa.

The Baillies enjoyed a great trade, selling six heifers to average £2620. Next best at £2750 was Covington Bestman Beaujolais, a Wiltor Bestman daughter bred from Covington Bossman Beaujolais, purchased by Bradleys Farms, Preesall, Poulton-Le-Fylde.

Covington Dewey Bonheur, from the same home was one of seven to hit £2700. This heifer is by Matcrest Dewey, out of Covington Lamar Bonheur, and sold to Messrs Reay and Son, Carlisle.

Selling for the same money was Broughton Pearl 66 VG85 from RJ Holden, Syke house, Broughton in Furness. This heifer is the result of a mating between the sire, View Home Cardinals and Broughton Pearl 55, and was another selling to Messrs Bradleys Farms, Preesall who later went to the same money for Parkhouse Toronto Lies, a De-su Toronto daughter from Messrs Wilson, Woodside, Wreay.

The same home produced Wreaywood Amulet Mandy 102 which again made £2700 to Messrs Reay and Son, Carlisle. She is by Peak Altaamulet, out of Wreaywood Miro Mandy 62.

Joylan Mile Cielle from JW Graves and Son, Tallentire, Cockermouth, a Peak Altamilestone daughter, out of Joylan Man Cielle, sold for the same money to Messrs Irving, Canonbie, Dumfriesshire.

A freshly calved British Friesian heifer from JB Williamson, The Howes, Appleby, also made £2700 when selling to Messrs Hodgson, Ulverston.
