A seasonal offering of 370 store cattle was forward this week at Harrison and Hetherington's sale, where a top price of £1900 was paid for Simmental heifers from Messrs Stamper, Rose, Dearham.

The same home also led the bullocks at £1880 for Limousin and Salers.

A Charolais cross cow and calf from Messrs Lindsay, High Crosby, Crosby Moor, realised £1720, with the weaned cattle peaking at £1260 for a Limousin steer from Messrs Hughes, Dona Close, Asby, Appleby, with heifers making £1190 from Messrs Nichol, Lawston, Newcastleton.

On Monday, the weekly sale of ewes and hoggs with lambs sold to £170 per life for a pen of Texel cross gimmers from Messrs Browell, Quarry House Farm, Hexham.

Bullocks and heifers cashed in at 243.12p per kg and 231.15p respectively at United Auctions' weekly sale of 311 store cattle.

Limousin crosses dominated all sections, having led the bullocks at 276p for a 308kg entry from Dyke, and to £1500 for a 603kg bullock from Middleton, with the heifers peaking at 259.20p for a 380kg animal from Little Pinkerton, and to £1390 for a 604kg heifer from Ardlebank.

Young bulls (18) averaged 203.48p and sold to 270.00p for a Limousin cross from Gibblaston, and to £1260 for a Simmental cross from Oatridge.

Ayr

Aberdeen-Angus bullocks led the way at Craig Wilson's sale of 288 store cattle when reaching £1500 for Clonbeith, and to 301.7p for Braehead, Arran.

Bullocks cashed in at 248.5p per kg whilst heifers averaged 232.3p having sold to £1490 and 270.9p for a Charolais from David Howat, Ayr.

On Tuesday, 111 calves and stirks came under the hammer selling to a top of £950 for a Limousin cross bull from Messrs Whitelaw, Rigghead, and to £810 for Charolais heifers from Messrs Limond, Barskelly.

Among the calves, a top of £510 was paid for an Aberdeen-Angus cross bull from J and GP McConnell, Hoodsyard, whilst heifers peaked at £505 for more of the same breed from James and Jean Reid, Sevenacres Mains.

Also forward were 117 breeding cattle, where a British Blue cross bull achieved 4100gns for Airtnoch, whilst a Limousin heifer with heifer calf from Barleith, made £2850.

On the sheep front, £262 was paid for the outfit – Mule ewes with twin Texel lambs from R Lammie, Creagraineach.

The same home also led the gimmers with twin lambs at £252, with hoggs peaking at £248 on two occasions, firstly for Mules with twins and again for Mules with singles both coming from N Gillon for Glengennet.

A steady trade was witnessed at Aberdeen and Northern Marts' weekly sale of 377 store cattle where bullocks and heifers cashed in at 249p per kg and 238.7p respectively.

Bullocks (164) sold to 322.2p for three 180kg Simmental crosses from Towerhill, St Ola, and to £1990 for a 640kg Charolais cross from Sunhoney, Echt.

A 208kg Simmental cross from Braeside, led the heifers at 312.5p, whilst a pair of 682kg Simmentals from Milton of Collieston, Ellon, realised £1590.

Bulls (26) sold to 245.7p for a 350kg Charolais cross from Fichlie, Glenkindie, and to £1540 for a 696kg Simmental from Peasiehill, Arbirlot.

Also forward this week were 58 breeding cattle, where a top price of £3200 was paid for a Limousin cross heifer with a Limousin cross bull calf at foot from Seafield, Nairn. The same home sold a British Blue cross heifer with a heifer calf at foot for £3000.

Limousin cows with bull calves realised £2050 for Cairntack, Belhelvie, whilst breeding bulls sold to £2550 for a Limousin from Bush of Muldearie, Keith.

Limousin crosses secured the top prices among all sections at United Auctions' sale of 84 store cattle, having led the bullocks at 287.5p per kg for a pen of 327kg from Bainshole, Huntly, and to £1450 for 620kg animals from Upper Tillathrowie, Gartly.

Heifers realised 273.8p for five of the same breed weighing 252kg from Milton of Elrick, Auchnagatt, and to £1100 for two 460kg Limousin crosses again from Bainshole, Huntly.

Bullocks and heifers averaged 242p and 243.5p respectively.

Also forward was 75 ewes with lambs at foot, where continental ewes with Charolais cross single lambs achieved £83 per head for Messrs MacEachen Jnr, Boghead, Dufftown.
