Some 1139 prime lambs were forward at Craig Wilson Marts' sale to average 320.1p having topped at £180 on two occasions, firstly for a pen of eight Suffolks from J Cannon, Clauchrie and then for Texels from The Clark Family, West Glengyre or to 340.8p for Beltex from R Templeton and Co, Carslae.

The small show of hoggs reached £169 for Beltex from Balgreggan Farm.

Cast sheep peaked at £200 for a Texel from DC Cattle, Low Clanyard while tups were led by Charollais from J Douglas and Sons, Barlaughlan at £190.

Forfar

Lawrie and Symington sold three bullocks at their weekly prime sale to top at 270p per kg and £1663.20 for a 616kg Limousin from Pityot, to average 266p.

Heifers attained 290p for a 538kg Limousin from Chapel of Barras and to £1787.40 for a 662kg Limousin from Pityot, to level at 276p.

The 621 prime lambs topped at £158 and 351p for Texels from Alexander Strachan, Clochie, to cash in at 304p- with an SQQ of 308p, whilst the cast ewes reached £140 for Texels from Archgrove and Blue De Maine from Shandford.

Wooler

Texels led Harrison and Hetherington's sale of 1655 prime lambs with Nesbit and South Lyham topping the trade at £188 and 400p, respectively, to level at 328p.

A top price of £193 was achieved amongst the hoggs for Texels from Kypie, whilst the cast ewes reached £227 for another of the same from IF Murray and Partners, Shepherds Cottage, Hetton Law.

Huntly

United Auctions sold 353 lambs to average 296p having sold to 321p per kg for for 47.5kg Texels from North Dorlaithers, Turriff and to £162 for 58kg Texels from Clinterty, New Aberdour.

R Wilson, North Dorlaithers once again topped the cast ewe trade with a Texel at £238.

Dumfries

Prime cattle sold easily at C and D Auction Marts' sale with prices reaching 295p for a Limousin heifer from J Jardine, Yett, while OTM's sold to £1726 for a Beef Shorthorn from Archbank and 198p for an Aberdeen-Angus from Boreland of Southwick.

The 814 prime lambs reached £165 for Texels from Eastside and 333p for more of the same from Whitehall, to level at 324.6p.

Whitehall topped the ewes with Texels again making £192, while rams sold to £152 from Innerfield.

Stirling (Cale)

All classes of prime cattle sold well at Caledonian Marts, with heifers averaging 274pp having sold to 302p on two occasions from Faskine, Airdrie and Carriston, Star of Markinch and R Brown, Butchers, Stenhousemuir respectively, and to £1901 for a Limousin from Leyden, Kirknewton.

Bullocks reached 280p for a Limousin from Seggersdean, Haddington or to £1843 for a Limousin from Nethermyres, Auchtermuchty, while bulls peaked at 238pp and £1808 for a Stabiliser from Nether Fordoun, Auchterarder.

OTMs balanced out at 185p with trade topping at 239p and £1800 for a Limousin from West Thomaston, Banknock, while cast males sold to 153p or to £1600 for a Limousin from Shields, Larbert.

The sale of prime lambs cashed in at 292p with C and K Malone, Pitcairn leading the way at 360p for a Texel cross or to £155 on two occasions for Texels from Pitcairn and E Robertson, Skeoch.

Cast ewes sold to £133 for a Texel cross from Bankhead Farming, Crook of Devon, while tups achieved £189 for a Texel from Drumardoch Estate, Callander.

Stirling (UA)

Texels were the pick of the bunch at United Auctions' sale of 2777 prime lambs which sold to average 308.95p with trade topping at £160 from Millhouse, West Park and Shields or 350p from West Park.

The 1552 cast sheep witnessed ewes peak at £200 for Texels from Garvald Mains, while more of the same led the tups at £170 from Milton.

Thainstone

Aberdeen and Northern Marts sold 19 heifers to average 253.9p having sold to 267p for a 530kg Limousin cross from Whiteside and £1916.60 for a 740kg British Blue from Wrangham, Colpy.

Young bulls attained 264p per kg for a 720kg Limousin from Crichie, Inverurie and £2087.40 for a 980kg Aberdeen Angus from Backhill of Thornton, Inverurie, to level at 219.3p.

Beef finished cows cashed in at £1695 and peaked at £2370 for a 1074kg Charolais from Harestone, Crathes, while beef feeding cows averaged £1176.04 and sold to £1470 for a 800kg Charolais cross from Newtonhill, Clatt.

The firm also sold 577 prime lambs to cash in at 309.4p with trade topping at 332.3p per kg for 48kg Texels from Waterton Farm, Insch and £167.50 for 63kg Suffolks from Grange Farm, Kinneff.

Some 46 hoggs balanced out at 217.3p and achieved 276.1p for 44kg Texels from Newton of Greeness, Turriff and £135 for 56kg Texels from Quarry Hill, Cornhill, while the 468 cast sheep made £224.50 for Texels from Uppermill Farm, Tarves.

Longtown

A larger show of 2117 prime lambs were sold through C and D Auction Marts', with trade topping at 348p for Texels from J and E Walby, East House, Newcastle and for Beltex from GS Jackson, Raby Grange, Kirkbride or to £162 for Suffolks from HM Martindale, The Land, Ecclefechan and for Texels shown by G Shankland, East Raffles, Carrutherstown, to average 307.3p.

Some 2823 cast ewes and rams witnessed ewes sell to £225 for Texel ewes from Huntley House, with rams peaking at £200 for Texels from T Magnay, Galleywreay, Penrith.

St Boswells

Harrison and Hetherington’s prime cattle sale witnessed bullocks and heifers averaging 284p and 282p, respectively.

Penston and Pathhead led the bullocks at £1785.60 and 298p, whilst heifers topped at £2053.48 and 308p from Bee Edge.

Venchen, Butchercote and Woodhouse led the way amongst the cast cows at £1823.04 and 221p, respectively, to average 195p.

The firm also sold 1234 prime lambs to top at £171 for Texels from Hawthornside and to 364.4p for Beltex from Craiglea, to level at 305p.

The 174 cast sheep averaged £111.46 with the sale peaking at £163 with a crossbred Texel ewe from EM Bridgewater, Edrom Mains.

Lanark

Limousins from Brockwoodlees led Lawrie and Symington's prime cattle sale with heifers attaining 300p and £1922.76, while bullocks sold to 284p and £1681.

Beef cows attained £1870 and 237.3p from Darnhall Mains, while dairy cows sold to £1290 from Blackhill, Crossford or to 178.3p from Gartavaigh Farm, Southend.

The show and sale of Suffolk lambs was held on behalf of the West and Central Scotland Suffolk Club where judge, R Lawson, East Mains Farm, Newbigging found his champion in the form of a pen of Suffolk cross Scotch Mule lambs which later realised £136 from A Mitchell and Co, Newton of Wiston.

Reserve champion was a pen of Suffolk cross Scotch Mules from A Smellie and Partners, Kailzie Mains which attained £140.

Outwith the show, the 1522 lambs sold to £171 for Dutch Spotted from Bell Highfield and to 352p for Beltex from Anderson, Old Walls, to level at 297p.

The 135 hoggs peaked at £114 for Texels from Gibb, Rusha and to 229p per kg for Cheviots from Clarkson Whiteside, to cash in at 202p.

Some 901 ewes were led at £270 for Texels from Gibson, Cowgrove.

Ayr

A smaller show of 1641 prime lambs were sold through Craig Wilson Marts harder, with the whole sale averaging 292.7p and top price of the day being £165 for a pen of Texels off Messrs Wardrop, Brisbane Glen Estates and 325p for a pair of Beltex from Messrs Dunlop, West Enoch Farm.

Tups led the way amongst the cast sheep with a Texel making £208 from Daniel Hodge, Dykes Farm, while more of the same topped the ewes at £178 for a pair from H Wardrop, South Craigton.

Carlisle

Limousins led most cattle sections at Harrison and Hetherington's prime cattle sale, with bullocks making £2031 from Hundith House and 274.5p from Kirkland Guards.

Heifers sold to £1840 from Hill House Farm and to 277.5p from High Plasket Lands, whilst cast cows topped at £2246- for a Blonde from Mirlaw House or to 264.5p for a British Blue from Colstons.

Limousins from Cracrop Farm and Newton High House topped the prime bulls at £2130 and 265.5p, respectively.

A larger entry of 1568 prime sheep were also forward, with lambs cashing in at 332p having peaked at £186 for a Texel from WL Musgrave and Son, Cardew Hall, Dalston or to 425p for another of the same from Freddie Little, The Guards.

A Bluefaced Leicester from Pears Gill led the cast ewes at £170.

Dingwall

Dingwall and Highland Marts sold bullocks to level at 258.3p having sold to 266p per kg for a 625kg Limousin cross from 7 Kinerras, Kiltarlity and £1670.25 for a 655kg Limousin cross also from 7 Kinerras, Beauly.

The 206 new season lambs balanced out at 275.6p with prices peaking at 292.2p for a pen of 45kg Texels from Lochdhu, Nairn and £136 for a 61kg Texel from 3 Dell of Inshes, Inverness, whilst the 105 feeding sheep sold to £137 for a Texel cross Ewe from Torgorm, Conon Bridge.

Castle Douglas

On Tuesday, Wallets Marts had forward 937 prime and cast sheep, with the 824 lambs cashing in at 284.96 with trade topping at £154.50 for Texels from Messrs Roddan, Longbeoch and to 325.8p for Texels from Messrs Brown, Little Culmain.

Cast sheep peaked at £155 for Texel ewes from Messrs Black, Hillside, with Scotch Mules to £125.00 from Messrs McCreath, Newtonhill and Blackface to £111.00 from Messrs Jamieson, Blacket House.
