Carlisle

SOME 411 store cattle forward for Harrison and Hetherington’s weekly sale, met a strong demand which saw prices peak at £1880 for a Limousin cross heifer from Messrs Stamper, Rose, Cockermouth.

Steers witnessed a top price of £1690 paid for Limousin crosses from Messrs Grice, Newtown Farm, Carlisle.

A large run of 333 weaned cattle peaked at £1700 for a Limousin bull from Messrs Henshall, Sarkshields, Lockerbie.

The same breed also produced the lead priced heifer and steer at £1380 and £1360 both of which were consigned by Messrs Hall, West End Farm.

More than 300 calves were also forward which sold to £530 for a Limousin bull from Messrs Carr, New House.

Heifers peaked at £530 for more of the same breed from Foley Bros, Mirlaw House.

Bullocks (307) and heifers (211) averaged 235.84p per kg and 229.73p respectively at United Auctions’ weekly store cattle sale.

Limousin crosses from Torrax, led the pence per kg sections when a 585kg bullock made 276.10p and a 515kg heifer achieved 268.90p.

Aberdeen-Angus led the per head section, selling to £1650 for a 642kg bullock from The Mains, and to £1580 for a 656kg heifer from Balcalk.

Young bulls (5) averaged 182.75p having sold to 218.20p and £720 for Limousin crosses from Greenyards.

Penrith and District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly sale of 118 rearing calves and stirks, where trade peaked at £695 for a British Blue cross bullock from Brackenburgh Home Farms.

Not far behind on £680 was a Limousin bull calf from W Richardson and Son, Ghyll House, with heifer stirks reaching £610 for British Blues from Brackenburgh Home.

Limousin cross bullocks from Bracken, Sandford, made 250p, whilst a Shorthorn from Netherfauld House, realised £1535.

Dairy bullocks sold to £1245 for Holsteins from Craigthorn to average 190.3p.
