Some 1105 prime lambs were forward at Craig Wilson Marts’ weekly sale where trade levelled at 277.5p having peaked at £156 for Texels from I and K Fisher, Spittal or to 306p for Beltex from R Templeton and Co, Carslae.

Cast sheep were topped at £175 for a Roussin tup from Culbae Farm with Beltex leading the ewes at £157 from AH and HA Brown, Millairies.

Forfar

Lawrie and Symington sold six bullocks to a top of 268p per kg for a 628kg Limousin from Balgay and to £1804.40 for a 694kg Hereford from the same home, to average 261p.

Heifers sold to 289p per kg for a 590kg Limousin from Pityot and to £1709.32 for a 644kg Limousin from Pityot again, to cash in at 276p.

The 374 prime lambs reached £146 or 340.2p for a 48kg Texel from John Caldwell Farmers, Grange of Conon Farm, while Templeton led the cast ewes with Texels making £135.

Wooler

A large consignment of 1005 prime lambs were sold through Harrison and Hetherington where prices peaked at £172 for Texels from N and J Sanderson, Greenhead, Reston or 371p for Beltex from Annstead, to level at 295p.

Annstead also topped the cast sheep with Beltex ewes making £210.

Dumfries

AT C and D Auction Marts’ sale, prime cattle sold to a top of 295p from John Jardine, Yett, while the OTMs achieved £1722 for a Limousin from Laverock Hall or 222p for a Flekvieh from Slacks.

The 723 prime lambs sold to average 269p with a SQQ of 273p. Prices reached £140 for Suffolks from Nether Cargen or 295p for Texels from Cleughbrae.

Cheviot Mules were the pick of the cast sheep with trade topping at £144 from Hartbush and West Lanegate.

Huntly

United Auctions sold 653 prime lambs to average 268p having sold to 290p per kg and £145 per head for 50kg Texels from Auchairn, Keith.

The 254 cast ewes were topped at £190 for a Texel from 133 Knockomie.

Stirling (Cale)

All classes of cattle sold well through Caledonian Marts where heifers peaked at 298p for a Limousin from J and J Rearie, Riggs, Freuchie and to £1952 for a Limousin from J Burnett and Sons, Upper Spittalton, Blairdrummond.

Bullocks sold to 278p for another of the same from JH and NT Turnbull, Meadowend, Clackmannan and to £1897 for a Limousin from HA Brown, Molemount, Galston.

A top price of 268p was paid amongst the bulls for a Limousin from J Burnett and Sons.

Prime lambs cashed in at 239p having sold to 319p and £172 for Texel crosses from R Messenger, Ayton.

Stirling (UA)

United Auctions had forward 3176 spring lambs at their weekly sale which sold to average 265.44p, with Beltex taking the top prices of £161 from Meadows of Ballied or 338p from Doune Farms.

Texels from West Park led the 1394 cast ewes at £220, with tups to £194 or Suffolks from Bogburn.

Thainstone

Bullocks averaged 242.3p at Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ weekly sale, having sold to 273p for a 565kg Limousin from Whiteside, Tullynessle and £1901.25 for a 845kg Simmental cross from East Cairnbeg, Laurencekirk.

Heifers cashed in at 253.8p and reached 269p for a 530kg Limousin from Whiteside and £1761.75 for a 675kgLimousin cross from Stoneyhill, Keith-hall.

A top of 279p and £2315.70 was achieved amongst the young bulls for a 830kg British Blue from Wrangham, Colpy.

The 896 prime lambs averaged 267.4p with trade topping at 318.8p for 40kg Beltex and £146.50 for 50kg Beltex from The Bothy, Rivehill.

A smaller show of 639 cast sheep sold to £184.50 for Charollais from Clackriach, Maud.

Longtown

Some 2169 prime lambs averaged 270.6p with a SQQ of 269.6p at C and D Auction Marts' weekly sale.

Beltex led the trade at 321p for G Gillespie, High Street, Campbeltown, and to £166 for Texels from RD Fleming, Hillhead, Kirkpatrick Fleming.

St Boswells

Bullocks and heifers sold to average 278p and 281p, respectively, at Harrison and Hetherington’s weekly sale.

Whitrighill and Oldcastles led the bullocks at £1853.56 and 300p, respectively, while the heifers were topped at £1797.58 and 311p from Bee Edge.

Hoselaw took the top prices amongst the cast cows at £1916.84 and 277p.

A large show of 2471 lambs cashed in at 253p with trade peaking at £144 for Suffolks from Butterdean or 288.5p for Beltex from Lylestane.

Cast sheep peaked at £190 for a Texel from Glen Wilson, Hawthornside, with tups to £165 for Charollais from Fairlaw.

Lanark

Limousins led most sections of Lawrie and Symington’s weekly sale, with heifers selling to 302p from Messrs Dickinson, Brockwoodlees, Canonbie or to £1887 from Messrs Wainwright, Todhall, Cupar.

Limousin bullocks reached 300p and £1842 from Messrs Wainwright, Todhall, Cupar, while beef cows sold to £1730 and 223p from Messrs Cruickshank, Little Kype Farm, Strathaven.

The 2172 lambs were topped at £160 for Texels from Messrs Clark, Blackhill and to 297p for Beltex from Messrs Goodfellow, Townfoot, to balance out at 260p with a SQQ of 260p.

A larger show of 1835 cast ewes and rams were dearer on the previous week, with prices peaking at £258 for Texel from Messrs Campbell, Strawfrank.

Ayr

Craig Wilson Marts sold 1690 lambs to average 254.9p per kg having sold to £153 per head for Suffolks from AD McFarlane and Sons, Clonbeith or 283.7p per kg for Beltex from Dustyhall Farming Partnership.

Texel crosses lead the cast sheep at £200 for J Forsyth, Lochlands, while Texel hoggs from J Etchells, Collviston, achieved £100.

Limousins led the heifers at 302p for Staffler, and to £1761.20 for North Boig, to average 276.1p.

Bullocks sold to 230p for a British Blue off Staffler, to level at 229.5p, while young bulls made 227p for a Friesian off Glenapp.

Dingwall

Prices remained firm on the week at Dingwall and Highland Marts’ sale, where bullocks averaged 256.8p having sold to 260p per kg for a 595kg Simmental cross from Shoreton Farms, Culbokie and £1670.50 for a 650kg Charolais cross also from Shoreton Farms.

Heifers levelled at 257.8p and reached 268p for a 585kg Limousin cross from Ashley, North Kessock and £1693.20 for a 680kg Aberdeen-Angus cross from Easter Sheeppark, Balblair.

The 240 prime lambs averaged 252p having achieved top prices of 282.4p for 45.5kg Texel crosses from Davidston, Cromarty and £132 for a pair of 52.5kg Suffolk crosses from Ankerville, Nigg.

Castle Douglas

On Tuesday, Wallets Marts sold 1454 prime lambs to average 237.68p with a top of £130 paid for Beltex from Messrs Jack, Dornells Estate and for Suffolks from Messrs Lochhead, St Ninians Grove or to 311p per kg for Beltex from Messrs McConnell, Gass.

Cast sheep sold to £199 for Texels from Messrs Hendry, Rascarrel, with rams to £187 for a Lleyn from Messrs Biggar, Grange.
