Limousin crosses from Catslackburn, proved popular at United Auctions' weekly store cattle sale, when topping the bullocks at 382p per kg with 284kg entries and the heifers at 340.60p with 254kg cattle.

The same breed also led the gross trade at £1840 for a 628kg bullock from Whiteside, and to £1930 for a 614kg heifer from Nether Dalkeith. Overall, 902 bullocks and 952 heifers cashed in at 292.15p and 276.23p respectively.

Young bulls (51) averaged 241.64p having sold to 287.30p for a Beef Shorthorn cross from Thistledown, and to £1800 for an Aberdeen-Angus cross from West Balgair.

The 606 store and breeding sheep, sold to £134 per life for a Suffolk gimmer with Charolais cross Texel lambs at foot from Whitesykes with hoggs reaching £95 for Suffolks from Willowbank.

Limousin crosses were in demand at Harrison and Hetherington's sale where steers and heifers both reached £2100, from Messrs Hewetson, Lords Close, Maryport, and Messrs Laird, Sunnyside, Cumnock, respectively.

An Aberdeen-Angus bull topped the weaned cattle at £1380 for I and A Burgess, Maryfield, Dumfries.

British Blues from Messrs Martin, Tempest Tower, led the calves, with heifers reaching £620 and bulls to £590.

On Monday, ewes and lambs sold to £175 per life for five Texel gimmers with Beltex cross single lambs from N and A Bainbridge.

Bullocks sold to 407.6p per kg for a pen of three weighing 422kg, and to £2490 for a 670kg Limousin, whilst heifers from the same home reached 585.4p for a 316kg entry and to £2360 for a 686kg heifer.

Bullocks (626) heifers (565) averaged 318.5p and 298.1p respectively.

Bulls (11) sold to 268.7p and £1005 for a 374kg British Blue from Lethendry, Cromdale.

On Tuesday, 2297 ewes and lambs averaged £78.81 per life having sold to £118 for Texel cross gimmers with twin lambs at foot for Upper Braiklay, Methlick.

British Blue crosses from Messrs Goldie, Buistonhead, led the calf trade at £590 for a heifer, and again to £570 for a bull.

A pen of Suffolk and Texel hoggs with Beltex lambs at foot from T Laird and Son, Carbello, secured the championship and top price of £148 per life at Lawrie and Symington's sale when purchased by the judge, Scott Anderson, Oldwalls.

The reserve winners, Mules with Texel lambs from the same home made £134 per head.

Out with the show and sale of hoggs, 1019 ewes with lambs at foot reached £140 for a Texel gimmer with Beltex lambs again from Carbello.

On Tuesday, all classes of store cattle were dearer on the week, with bullocks and heifers cashing in at 298.6p per kg and 277.1p respectively.

Limousin cross heifers led the way with a top call of 411p coming from Messrs Hamilton and Son, Kirkton of Crawford, Abington, and to £1940 for another this time from Messrs Walker and Son, Netherurd Mains, Blyth Bridge.

The same breed also topped the bullocks at 352.4p for Messrs Gilchrist, Newmill, Dolphinton, and to £1800 for Messrs Shanks, West Glespin, Douglas.

The breeding cattle sale included dispersals from H and L Black, Castlehill, Carluke and D Dalling, Myreside, Perth.

The sale topped at £3450 for an Aberdeen-Angus cow with Limousin bull calf at foot form the Castlehill dispersal.

Averages were up on the year at United Auctions' sale, where bullocks and heifers cashed in at 313.18p per kg (+65.59p) and 291.7p (+58.5p) respectively.

Bullocks sold to £1515 for 470kg Charolais crosses from Messrs Leitch, Fernoch, and to 411.6p for 277kg Limousin crosses from Messrs Troughton, Ardachy.

A 548kg Limousin cross from E and L Macgillivray, Barcaldine Home, led the heifer trade at £1670, whilst a 312kg Beef Shorthorn cross from Glenure Estate, Fasnacloich, made 394.2p.

The 666 sheep of all classes reached £138 for Texel cross ewes from Balnagown, whilst Suffolk cross hoggs peaked at £132 for Kilbride.

Some 320 cattle were forward for C and D Auction Marts' fortnightly sale of store cattle, where entries from Lantonside topped the bullocks and heifers at 346.5p per kg and 341.3p respectively.

Lantonside also sold the lead priced bullock per head at £1490, whilst heifers reached £1600 from St. Ninians.

Heifers reached 471p for a Charolais from R Purdon, Easterton, Caldercruix, and to £1720 for a Simmental from L Imrie, Hillhead, Torrance.

A joint top price of £3200 was achieved at Harrison and Hetherington's annual May sale of beef breeding cattle, for Limousin heifers with calves at foot.

First was for an entry with heifer calf from Messrs Ousby, Bents, Newbiggin on Lune, and the second a bull calf from Messrs Preece, Thornbush, Roeburndale.

In-calf heifers were topped at £2900 for a Limousin crosses from Messrs Handley, Gunnerfleet, Chapel le Dale.

Breeding sheep reached £158 per life twice – for the first prize Mule hoggs with Suffolk lambs at foot and again for the first placed pen of continental hoggs with lambs both coming from Messrs Winter, Clickham.
