Judge Stephen Dennison of the Denmire herd from Cumbria, had his work cut out for him at the West of Scotland Dairy Show at Ayr Market, which attracted a large number of superior quality animals of all breeds, but he soon whittled the entries down, finding his inter-breed champion in the Holstein best.
Taking centre stage was GT and G Borland’s Mossbog Silvio Beth, a September 2019-born third calver by Villy Silvio, that was best heifer in milk at the Winter Herds’ competition in 2022 and third at Agriscot last year.
Reserve overall was M Bryson and Son’s red and white champion, Whiteflat Jordy Lizzie Red Ex92, a similarly aged daughter of Cycle McGucci Jordy Red that is a former Highland Show champion and section champion here last year. This Cycle McGucci Jordy Red daughter was also champion at Tarbolton Show last month.
Winning the prestigious Lockharts’ West of Scotland Supercow – judged by spectators – was J Sloan’s Carnbus Piston Maby, a third calver that stood second in her class to the supreme and breed champion at Coylton Show. She is by Sandy-Valley Piston.
