A Peak Altavelvet-sired heifer giving 32kg from GD Donkin’s Copdon herd, Blackburn, attracted the top price of £3500 at Gisburn Auction Marts’ first dairy sale of the month where pedigree heifers levelled at £2363.
The sale leader was from the herd’s Pretzel family out of 13,263kg Peak Hotjob-sired dam. Another milking heifer the same herd and with the same genetics made £2600.
Second top price was £2800 paid for a Stantons Adorable-sired heifer from RC and SW Beecroft’s Hollinshall herd from Killinghall, Harrogate. Hollinshall, Batman Kim 29 from the same home made £2650.

Just behind, on £2780, M Bell and Son, Askrigg, North Yorkshire, sold the Metcalfe Farms-bred Washfold Ann 50, a Denovo Kenmore daughter out of a 14,000kg ABS Mayday dam.
Top price for R and M Cowgill, Little Hoole, Preston, was £2620 for their Hoole Fisherman Marie 3 heifer out of a Delta Builder dam.
Non-registered fresh heifers peaked at £2670 for an entry from J and B Rowland, Haighton, Preston and Jennings Farmers, Ripon, sold at £2600.
A Jackbeck second calver by Rubicon and bred from 13 generations of VG or Excellent-classified cows made £2500 for AH Price and Son, Clapham, Lancaster.
A strong trade for in-calf heifers saw two non-registered entries from Messrs Rowland in-calf to Angus sell at £1980 and £1820, with two from W Rathmell, Tong, Bradford, in-calf to a Hereford, at £1820 and £1800.
