A 60,000gns lead bid and a further eight five-figure prices were the main highlights of the two-day show and sale of pedigree Beltex rams and females at Carlisle, where Ryder Jordan, a shearling ram from Brian Ryder, secured the lead price selling to a trio of Shropshire-based flocks.

The tup from Newton, Annan Water, Moffat is the first son to be sold by the 6200gns Tanqueray Gladiator bought at Lanark in 2022 and was brought out by shepherd Les Charlton. Backed by home-bred genetics on the both sides of the dam, Jordon was knocked down the Hackney flock of Paul and Christine Tippetts; Liam Swinnerton of the Lipley flock and Paul Tippetts and Gerwyn Jones of the Pager Beltex flock.

Second top price amongst the shearlings was 22,000gns paid for Sue Wilkinson's Langlands Jack The Lad, from Barningham, Richmond. A son of Smart Ass Alfie, he sold in a five-way partnership to Robert Cockburn, Hill of Errol and Dalchirla Farms, both Perthshire; Gordon and David Gray, Selkirk; Neil Harvey, Duns and Grant Maxwell, Melrose.

Ram lambs sold the previous night peaked at 25,000gns for a substitute entry from Stuart Wood and son Murray, Westhill. This was Woodies Karate Kid, sired by Vicky's Gladiator. Reserve male champion at the pre-sale show, he sold back up to Aberdeenshire with the Ingram family of Logie Durno, Inverurie.

Grant Maxwell's Faughhill Kaiser lamb from Melrose sold next at 16,000gns. Second in his class to the reserve male champion, this Ainstable Javelin-sired lamb was bought by three Lanarkshire breeders – Andrew Baillie, Callacrag; Alfie Taylor, Heatheryhall and Neil Laing, Perryflatts.

Other top prices amongst the shearlings saw James Wannop take 18,000gns for Wannop's Jetski, a son of Aviemore Festival from Heaton Hall, Lancs, sell to Bryan Ryder, Moffat.

Matching that price later on in the sale, Andrew Baillie sold the Callacrag Hot Shot-sired Callacrag Jesus, to Faughhill and the Morton family, Lochend, Denny.

Daniel Towers, Curwen Hill, Wray, Lancaster, also had a good day, taking 10,000gns for the Airyolland Goin' Gets Tough son, Curwen Hill Jericho. The buyers were Hackney, Lipley and David Thornley of the Dooley flock, Leics.

The first shearling from the last lot of the day was another that sold for 10,000gns. This was Wigtownshire breeder, William McWilliam's Carse Jump Start from Newton Stewart, purchased in a two-way split by Aberdeenshire breeders, Ross and Kirsty Williams, Aboyne and Rory Gregor, Inverurie.

Also heading up to Aberdeenshire in a joint partnership was Rosie Boden's 10,000gns lamb from the Mellor Vale flock from Stockport, purchased by Stuart Wood, and Alan Miller of the Woodies and Lurg flocks respectively. This was Mellor Vale King Kong, a son of the 20,000gns Lipley Hugo Boss.

Averages: Six aged rams, £2590.00; 477 shearling rams, £1765.54; 80 ram lambs, £2227.96; 166 gimmers, £844.65.
