A Rembrandt secured the lead price of 10,000gns at a Limousin Cattle Society show and sale at Ballymena, on Monday, where 39 of the 44 bulls forward for sale averaged £3839 and 14 females cashed in at £1864.

Topping the trade was Larkhill Rembrandt from Brian and Cahir McAuley, Larkhill, Antrim. Their November 2020-born bull is by Whinfellpark Lomu, out of Larkhill Jenny and boasts two sets of the F94L myostatin gene. First in his class at the pre-sale show, he was knocked down to pedigree breeder, W Sherrard buying for the Greenvale herd, Coleraine, Co Londonderry.

Second top was 6200gns given for Joan Gilliland's Ballyrobin Realmccoy, from Antrim, Co Antrim. August 2020-born Realmccoy is another sired by Whinfellpark Lomu but out of Ballyrobin Lugs, a Netherhall Doubleoseven daughter. A red ticket holder, Realmccoy also boasts double F94L myostatin and headed home with Andrew Ferguson, Newtownstewart.

Ballyrobin also sold two bulls at 5000gns.

The overall champion, Carmorn Radar, a December 2020-born bull made 6000gns for C and F McAuley, Toomebridge, Co Antrim. Radar is an Ampertaine Nugent son, out of Carmorn Giroflee and was purchased by J Morrow of the Saintfield herd in Co Down.

Selling across the Irish Sea to Aberdeenshire at 5500gns, WJC Stewart, bought Henry Savage and Sons' Trueman Rollingstone, the reserve male champion from the herd based at Cullyhanna, Co Armagh. A 20-month-old son of Grahams Samson, he is bred from the Ampertaine Elgin daughter, Trueman Indie, and sold with two sets of the Q204X gene.

The similarly aged, Bernish Romeo from Kieran McCrory, Sixmilecross, Co Tyrone, made 5100gns to P Kealey, Dungiven, Co Londonderry. His purchased is sired by by Ampertaine Foreman and out of Bernish Julifortune.

The judge, Blair Duffton, Huntly, bought his choice of female champion, Craigatoke Rue, for 2700gns. This October 2020-born heifer was consigned by Martin Conway, Plumbridge, Co Tyrone and is by Norman Ely, out of the dam Craigatoke Nan.
