Lanarkshire breeders, Andrew and Ewan Lawrie of Grangehall Farm, Lanark, purchased the top priced animal, Astonpool Crusha Wyn Rae, for 4900gns at the recent Border and Lakeland Club Sale, at Carlisle.

This maiden heifer from Dan Weaver of Astonpool Holsteins, Stafford Road, Stone, Staffordshire, is a daughter of Oh-River-Syc Crushabull. Her Ex94 classified dam, Sterndale Snow Wyn Rae, goes back to the top show cow, Sterndale Goldwyn Rae, a former intermediate champion at UK Dairy Expo in 2012.

In an all Scottish transaction, David and John Brewster, Boclair, Bearsden, Glasgow, sold Boclair Crushtime Hope, a fresh heifer to Messrs Mackenzie, Muir of Ord, Ross-Shire, for 3200gns. She is by Col Dg Crushtime, out of the Boclair Crackerjack daughter, Boclair Crackerjack Hope 6 Ex90, and sold giving 50kg.

Boclair Crushtime Elegance also made her mark for the brothers when selling for 2950gns to Messrs Millar and Son, Kirkpatrick, Fleming, Lockerbie. She is by the same sire but out of the Ex91 Boclair Lincoln Elegance.

Travelling to Ayrshire with Messrs Caldwell and Sons, Maybole, was another at the same money from the Wright family's Berryholme herd from Helsington, Kendal. Berryholme Pepper Applause is by Delaberge Pepper and bred from five VG dams, being out of Berrholme Cayle Applause.

Next in the trade rankings for the same home was Berryholme Dealmaker Erle, which made 2900gns selling to Messrs Royall, Stoke-on-Trent Staffordshire. She is by Claynook Dealmaker and out of Berryholme Beemer Erle VG88.

The pre-sale champion, Stowbeck Alvarez Mabel, from Skirwith Hall Farms, Penrith, Cumbria, made 3000gns to the judge, Matt Stephenson, Winter Tarn, Newby, Penrith. She is by A S-S-I La Syracse Alvarez and out of Stowbeck Lineman Mabel.

Skirwith Hall also received 2900gns from Messrs Mackenzie, Muir of Ord, for a Westcoast Lighthouse milking female out of the VG85 classified dam, Stowbeck Unix Ester.
