Wensleydale Just Eric did the double at a society show and sale of Aberdeen-Angus at Carlisle, when securing the pre-sale championship and the top price of 9000gns.

This 14-month-bull from Chris Timm, West Farm, Blansby Park Lane, Pickering, is by Blelack Ensign, out of The Moss Ethos sired-dam, Wensleydale Janet Erica and sold to Daniel Whiteford, Boreland, Scremerston, Berwick Upon Tweed.

Martin McCornick, Boreland, Kirkcowan, sold the second highest priced bull at 7000gns. Mccornick Dakota, a two-year-old, purchased by Hugh Corkindale, Southend, Argyll, stood third place in his class and is by Mccornick Evade, out of the Wedderlie Even Bonus daughter, Mccornick Duchess.

Three bulls achieved 6500gns. First was the rising two-year-old, Stouphill Buster from Dallas and Ruth Allen, Humbleheugh, Alnwick. Reserve overall champion at the pre-sale show, this Rawburn Estonian son out of Stouphill Blossom, found a new home in Essex with Messrs Hull, Dengie, Southminster.

Eilean Preacher made the same money for Mag McSporran, Eilean, Innerleithen, when selling to Messrs Hogg and Partners, Earlston. Reserve senior male, Preacher is the result of the Schivas Jason Eric sire onto the Netherton Mr Rader daughter, Eilean Princess.

In an all Ayrshire transaction, the Clark family – Alistair and sons, also Brian and Alistair – Avisyard, Cumnock, sold Duncanziemere Extra for 6500gns to Robin Dunlop, Dalry. This yearling is by the 13,000gns Carlisle purchase, Auchincrieve Exodus, whose first crop of bulls averaged more than £11,000, whilst the dam, Duncanziemere Edwina, is by Rawburn Jester Eric.

Tonley Emmanuel, from Neil and Mark Wattie, Mains of Tonley, Alford, attracted a 6000gns bid from Rory Arnott, Kelso. Unshown, he backed by home-bred genetics being the result of the Tonley Jester Eric sire onto the dam, Tonley Emiline.

Another from the same home also made 6000gns when selling down to North Yorkshire with Messrs Lawn, Stirton, Skipton. The February 2021-born entry, Tonley Bdandie, is another by Jester Eric but out of Tonley Belle.

Females peaked at 3200gns twice. First to sell at this money was the 14-month-old heifer, Duncanziemere Ellen Erica, again from the Clark family. Second in her class in the pre-sale show, she caught the eyes of Adrian and Penny Johnson, Brandsby, York, North Yorkshire. A daughter of the herd’s junior stock bull, Wedderlie Black Art, her dam is Duncanziemere Ellen Erica which has bred bulls to 6500gns.

The reserve female champion also made 3200gns for Andrew Hodge, Rulesmains, Duns. Similarly aged, she is a daughter of Duncanziemere Judge, out of Rulesmains Egrebe, and found a new home with Messrs Armstrong, Auchencairn, Castle Douglas.
