An improved show of Beef Shorthorn bulls saw averages improve by just shy of £2200 at a society show and sale at Carlisle, where prices peaked at 7500gns for Coxhill Puma from Dumfriesshire breeder, Cindy Townsend, Moffat.

The bull, a rising two-year-old red and white by the 20,000gns Millerston Kasper, out of the Croxtonpark Orville daughter, Coxhill Agusta, was purchased by JT and C Owen, Kirkintilloch, Glasgow.

Millerston Kasper sons proved popular for the Coxhill herd with two selling at 7000gns and another at 5500gns. First to make 7000gns was Coxhill Pioneer, a rising two-year-old roan out of Coxhill Urymaid, which heads up to Orkney, to Laga Farms, Evie.

Aberdeenshire producer, Fiona Davidson, Peterhead, bought the second at 7000gns in Coxhill Prince, a second prize bull out of Coxhill Urymaid.

Selling at 5500gns was the reserve champion, purchased by Amos Farm, Ashbourne, Derbyshire. Coxhill Peregrine is out of Ballylinney Fairy Zara.

Adding to the Coxhill celebrations, the fourth prize bull, Coxhill Proclaimer, made 5200gns when selling to Messrs Gray, Alnwick. He is by Ballylinney Glenn and out of Ballylinney Desiree.

Dye and Elizabeth Clark, Lee Meadow, Carluke, were also in the money, when their Leeburn Potcheen made 7000gns T and R Harper and Son, Southmains, Biggar. This 20-month-old roan is by Castlemount Masterpiece and out of Tofts Wineberry.

Mayfield Powerplay, a two-year-old roan by Hill Haven Fire Storm from Gerard Te Lintelo, Wolsingham, County Durham, secured the reserve male championship and made 7000gns when being knocked down to Messrs Biggar, Castle Douglas, Kirkcudbrightshire.

The two-year-old roan, Hallsford Percival from Andrew and Helen Tomkins, Hallsford, Carlisle, made 5500gns when selling ro Messrs Bellas and Son, Appleby, Cumbria. A rising two-year-old, he is by Hallsford Figaro and out of Hallsford Eriskay 3rd.

Top price amongst the heifers was 5500gns paid for Runleymill Roxburgh Lass Pam, the female champion from JH Wilson and Janet Dunning, Settle, North Yorkshire. This white maiden heifer is a daughter of the 15,000gns Chapelton Dauphin, out of Runleymill Roxburgh Lass. A former champion winner at the Borderway Agri Expo, she was also reserve at Stars of the Future and Northern Beauties, and found a new home with Adam Smith, of Treventon Shorthorns, Cornwall.

Kimrina Princess, a two-year-old roan, made 3000gns for Caitrina Ward, Whitby, North Yorkshire, when selling to Jim Frame, Little Gala, Biggar. A daughter of the 7500gns Craigfaddock Khan, she is out of Kimrina Lottie.

The draft sale of heifers from FJ Hugill’s Ballard herd from Helmsley, was topped at 2200gns by Ballard Tessa Penelope, a rising two-year-old by Oakleigh Kildale Lad, purchased by T and R Harper and Son.
