A cracking entry of 1057 calves for Harrison and Hetherington's annual Charolais and Continental cross show and sale at St Boswells, saw overall averages improve in the bullock and heifer sections.

By the end of the day, bullocks averaged £1067.42, or 223.56p per kg, which represents a £25 per head 10p per kg, rise on the year. Heifers improved by £6 per head or 2p per kg to settle at £919.39 or 212.12p.

Top price was £1920, paid for a pure Charolais heifer from Messrs Green, The Craggs.

Pre-sale judge, Bruce Jackson, White House Farm, found his Charolais champion in a home-bred cross heifer from Messrs Anderson, Headshaw, Lauder, which made £1260 with the Anderson Family donating the proceeds to MND Scotland.

Champion Limousin, was the first prize bullock from Messrs Runciman, Huntington Partnership, which sold in a pen of three for £1125.

The entry of 2100 store lambs sold to high rates, peaking at £66 for Texels from Huntershall.

Texels averaged £62.80; North Country Cheviots at £59.80 and Suffolks at £59.10.
