EWES with lambs at foot sold slightly easier on the fortnight when Dingwall and Highland Marts sold 89 lots to a top of £155 per unit for Cheviot ewes with Texel-sired lambs from Keppoch, Dundonnell. 
Store hoggs (269) met a positive trade peaking at £97 for a pen of Cheviots from Rydon, Tain, with the 301 ewes selling to the same price for a pen of Texel crosses from 15 Achnairn, Shinness. 
Rams and feeding sheep (44) sold to £116 for a Suffolk cross ram from Calrossie Mains, Nigg.

AN entry of 400 store cattle sold sharper than previous weeks at Harrison and Hetherington’s recent sale, where an Aberdeen-Angus cross bullock from Messrs Palmer, Longrigg Thorn, Carlisle, topped the trade at £1380. 
Heifers sold to £1260 for a Limousin from Messrs Grice, Newton Farm, while the entry of 362 weaned calves met a flying trade throughout peaking at £1170 for an 11-month-old Limousin bull from Messrs Watret, Maulscastle.

CHAROLAIS crosses from Haughton headed up United Auctions’ sale of 323 store cattle when a 267kg bullock realised 279p per kg and a heifer weighing 266kg sold for 268.8p. 
Per head, calves from Lettar of Ballied led at £1340 for a 566kg Limousin bullock with a 548kg Simmental heifer at £1220. 
The 163 bullocks averaged 231.53p with 155 heifers at 223.2p. Dairy bullocks (five) levelled at 167.38p having peaked at 221.5p and £775 for Holstein crosses from Meikle Camoquhill. 
Charolais crosses topped the 85 beef-bred cast cows at 225.p from Mosside and £1670 from Cotton of Ovenstone. With beef cows averaging 149.71p, the 17 dairy cows levelled at 133.8p and were topped by a Holstein cross from Claylands at 133.8p and £1070. 
An entry of breeding sheep reached £188 for Suffolk crosses with twins from Cairnton.

Thainstone
AT Aberdeen and Northern Marts, last week, the sale of 286 store cattle saw a 376kg Charolais heifer from Lanlanburn, Deskford, top at 305.9p per kg.
The 150 heifers (which averaged 223.1p) also sold to £1330 twice – for a 580kg Blonde cross from Earlsfield, Kennethmont, and again for a pair of Lincoln Red crosses weighing 590kg from Hillside, Dufftown. 
The 124 bullocks levelled at 238.8p having peaked at 287.1p for a 364kg Aberdeen-Angus cross from Blairgorm, Nethy Bridge, as well as £1565 for a 646kg Angus cross from Meikle Toux, Cornhill. 
Seven young bulls hit 242.3p and £950 for a 392kg Limousin cross from Netherskaill, Birsay.
Orkney and Shetland cattle were topped by a pair of 362kg Angus cross bullocks from Howally, Twatt, that made 245.9p with bullocks also hitting £1270 for a 544kg Charolais cross from Hall of Herston, St Margaret’s Hope. Hall of Herston also topped the heifer trade at £1270 for a 566kg Angus and 239.6p for a 480kg Charolais cross. 
Ewes with lambs were still keenly bid for as 436 sold to £98 per life for Texel hoggs with singles from Braigiewell, Echt, while the 80 store hoggs hit £68.50 for Suffolks from Bayview Croft, Fisherie. 
Feeding ewes and rams (1083) sold to £169.50 for Charollais ewes from Logie Durno, Pitcaple.

A GOOD show of well-bred grazing cattle were on offer at United Auctions’ Islay centre, last week, where the entry of 272 saw bullocks level at £838 or 242p per kg, with heifers at £731 or 221p. 
Trade peaked at £1200 for Charolais cross bullocks from Gartacharra with Limousin cross bullocks form Carrabus leading the price per kg at 322p. Heifers sold to £1000 for Aberdeen-Angus crosses from Brybruich and 265p for Limousin crosses from Ardnave.

Stirling (Cal)
A MIXED offering for quality sold dearer than the previous fortnight at Caledonian Marts’ sale of 296 store cattle, on Monday, where bullocks levelled at 221p per kg with heifers at 208p. 
Limousin bullocks from D and A Robertson, Middle Bankhead, Denny, topped the price per kg at 273p with bullocks also hitting £1140 on three occasions, from A McMillan, Blackpark, Stranraer; D Stewart, Gartmain, Islay, and R and W Moffat, Bowridge, Carluke. 
An Aberdeen-Angus heifer from Bowridge topped the gross trade at £1250 with a top price per kg in the section of 249p for Limousins from Blackpark. 
Young bulls averaged 201p and sold to 224p for a Charolais from B and M Rozga, Kilmeny, Islay, and £790 from Bowridge. 
Averaging 171p, dairy sorts peaked at 175p and £730 for a pen of 11 from T Drummond, Low Barbeth, Stranraer.
A small show of breeding cattle met a firm demand peaking at £1850 for a heifer with calf from Ardgate. 
Also on offer were 118 hoggs and ewes with lambs where cross hoggs with twins from Stepend topped at £158.

A SMALL and mixed show of 52 cattle sold favourably to other centres at United Auctions' sale, where Aberdeen-Angus crosses from Kilbride, Balvicar, led the trade at £750 for heifers and £680 for bullocks. 
The 732 sheep saw ewes and lambs peak at £150 from Kilvaree, with store hoggs to £79 for crosses from Obal Seil Farm. 
Feeding ewes hit £81 for Texel crosses from 12 Crossapol, Tiree.
