Forfar
LIMOUSIN crosses from Nethermyres secured the lead prices per kg at Lawrie and Symington’s prime sale of 26 cattle, and 408 sheep, selling at 270p twice and 260p.
Topping the sale were 558kg and 552kg heifer entries, with Nethermyres’ also topping the bullock section with a 610kg Limousin which made 260p. 
Top price per head was £1617.20 for a 622kg Limousin heifer from West Bog, with a 641kg Limousin from Nethermyres leading the bullock section at £1602.50.
Overall, nine bullocks averaged 243p per kg with 17 heifers cashing in at 247p.
Prime lambs (351) peaked at 236.6p and £110 for a pair of 46.5kg Beltex from Clochie to average 196.1p (-16.9p on the week).
The small entry of 57 ewes sold to £90.50 from Texels from Mill of Murroes.

Dumfries
TRADE was good for a mixed offering at C and D Auction Mart’s sale of 15 prime cattle where heifers sold to 234p per kg for a Limousin from J Jardine, Yett and bullocks peaked at 215p for a Galloway from JWK Paterson, Low Three Mark.
Strong demand for OTM cattle saw the 35 dairy cows average 114p per kg while 15 beef types cashed in at 129p. Beef cattle sold to 151p and £1066 for a Limousin from Park and the same breed from Meikleholm. Topping the dairy section at £1064 was a Holstein from Conheath, with two Friesians from Kirkland making 135.2p.
Prime lambs averaged 195.7p, with the entry of 483 selling to 250p per kg for Beltex from Cleughbrae, or £124 for heavy Texels from Glenhowan.
Cast ewes (383) peaked at £144.50 for Texels from Meikleholm.

Thainstone
PRIME cattle averages slipped on the week at Aberdeen and Northern Marts sale of 46 head where 18 bullocks levelled at 212.6p (-5.9p) and 17 heifers cashed in at 217.6p (-1.7p)
Bullocks sold to 227p for a 600kg Limousin cross from Faichfolds, King Edward and £1515.00 for a 750kg Limousin cross from Home Farm, Longhaven.  
Heifers hit a top of 233p for a 540kg Limousin cross from Whiteside, Tullynessle and £1436.40 for a 630kg Charolais cross from Stoneyhill, Keith-hall. 
The four young bulls forward averaged 152.8p having sold to 175p and £1522.50 for a 870kg Limousin from Mill of Towie, Keith.
The entry of 170 cows and bulls saw 159 cows level at 154.4p (-4.1p) and 11 bulls at 136.8p (-1.6p).  
Leading the beef cow entry at 199.3p per kg was a 700kg Charolais from Burnton, Laurencekirk, with an 885kg Simmental from Drumsleed, Fordoun making £1590. The bull trade was led by a 1060kg Limousin from Southfield, Cairnbanno, New Deer, at 153.8p per kg and £1770 for a 1205kg Limousin from Dinnet Farms, Aboyne.  
Just 474 prime sheep were forward, which saw 317 new season prime lambs sell to 203.3p per kg for 45kg Texels from Inchbruich, Cornhill and £100 for 66kg Charollais from Logie Durno, Pitcaple and for 53kg Texels from Nether Toucks, Stonehaven.
Old season lambs (137) peaked at £80 for 60kg Texels from Swarthoull, Skeld.

Stirling (Cale)
JUST shy of 160 cattle were forward for Caledonian Marts’ sale at Stirling where the 50 bullocks and heifers sold to average 230p and 236p, respectively.
Bullocks sold to 262p for a Limousin from W Pettigrew, Faskine, Airdrie and to £1626 for the same breed from AS Hay, Mains of Cultmalundie, Tibbermore. 
Heifers also sold to 262p for a Limousin from D Dickinson, Brockwoodlees, Canonbie and £1646 for the same from Mains of Cultmalundie. 
Limousins also led the beef cow trade which saw an entry from ID Johnston, Kirkton, Falkirk make £1270, with another from C McKechnie, France Farm, Gartocharn, topping the per kg section at 158.5p. Overall they averaged 139p.
Dairy cows peaked at £1110 from T Greer and Son, Wharlawhill, Fossoway and 150p, from J Craig, Carneil Farm, Carnock, to balance out at 112p.

Longtown
A LARGER entry of 1461 prime lambs was forward for C and D Auction Marts’ sale at Longtown, where heavy lambs were the best trade selling to £137 for Texels from RG Dodd, Holmhead, Dumfries and 264p per kg for Texels from CJ Roots, Kilnford Croft, Dumfries.
The overall sale average was 202p (SQQ 202ppk).
A  larger show of 3898 cast ewes and rams met a similar trade with the exception of heavy ewes which were £10 per head down on the week. Texel ewes from A and H McColm, Crailloch, Port William, topped teh trade at £154 with hill ewes to £90 for Blackfaces from W and PF Walton, Penpeugh, Bardon Mill. 
Cast rams hit £146 for a Texel from Messers Brough, Old Rectory, Carlisle.
Just 10 prime cattle were forward which sold to 132p for an Angus cow from Messrs McKerrow, Darlawhills. 
On Tuesday, the firm sold 1017 prime lambs, cast ewes and tups and young sheep, where a mixed shows of lambs with all classes particularly light and under fleshed, resulting in the overall average for 541 falling 29.5p to 177.1p per kg. Top price was 224p per kg or £97 per head for 43.3kg Beltex lambs from DS and RC Taylor, Easter Ochtermuthill.

Stirling (UA)
OVERALL sale averages also slipped at United Auctions sale of 2084 prime sheep at Stirling where 1297 new season lambs levelled at 190.84p & 789 ewes and rams.
Top price was £117 paid for Texels from Meadows of Ballied, or 226p per kg for Beltex from Lochend.
The entry of 789 ewes and rams saw the former sell to £140 for Texels from Hoprig and £122 for the same breed in the males from Wester Middleton.

Carlisle
ON MONDAY, Harrison and Hetherington, sold 42 prime steers and heifers, 119 prime bulls, 375 cast cows, 1658 lambs and 211 ewes where a good show of beef cows peaked at 227p per kg or £2022 for a 889kg British Blue from Messrs Harrison, Hill House Farm.
Black and white cows were a mixed show and slipped 10p on the week having been topped at 131.5p or £1230 for a Holstein cross from Messrs Horsley, Woodhouse. An 831kg Montbeliarde cross made 137.5p for Messrs Workman, The Beeches.
A better quality show of prime bulls peaked at £1881.29 for a Limousin from Messrs Hansell, Nether Bar, Dumfries, with a top price per kg of 229.5p paid for a British Blue cross from Messrs Blaylock, Kirkend.  
Limousin crosses led the clean cattle section, with a steer from Messrs Blake, Halfway Well, Penrith, achieving £1736.60 and another from the same home making 229.5p.
Heifers peaked at £1402.99 from Messrs Story, Newbiggin Farm and 229.5p twice, again for Limousin crosses from the same home.
Lambs with weight and flesh proved easy to cash in the prime lamb ring which averaged out at £2 per kg, peaking at £109.80 for Texel cross lambs from R Carr, Little Bavington Farm, Capheaton, Newcastle. First time vendors, J Lee and Son, Agars Hill, Hexham, topped the pence per kg section at 259.4p for a pen of 35kg Texel crosses.
Texels also topped the cast ewe and ram section selling to £119.50 from Messrs Donald, The Beeches, Lamonby, with rams to £105.50 for the same breed from Whitehouse Farm.

St Boswells
CLEAN cattle improved on the week at Harrison and Hetherington’s St Boswells sale on Monday where 28 bullocks averaged 232p per kg (+7.0p on the week) and 49 heifers cahsed in at 230p (+4.0p).
Cattle from Bee Edge again topped the trade selling at £1537 and 257p per kg.
An entry from Kedzlie Farms topped the cast cows per head at £1583 per head, while another from Gateshaw led the pence per kg section at 181p. The 40 cows forward levelled at 148p per kg (-1.0p).
Weight and flesh paid amongst the entry of 1172 new season lambs which average 198.6p (-15p per kg), where a top price of 225p was paid for Beltex lambs from Huntington and £113 for Suffolks from Symington Mains.
Suffolks from Belmont topped the cast ewe trade at £110 with the 321 head averaging £75.58. Heavy ewes levelled at £89 and lights at £79.

Lanark
BUTCHERS cattle sold to average 247.3p per kg at Lawrie and Symington’s sale on Monday, where trade peaked at 260p per kg for a 564kg Limousin Heifer from David Dickinson, Brockwoodlees Farm, Canonbie.
Top price amongst the bullocks was 249p paid for a Charolais from Castlehill.
An entry of 55 cast cows saw 33 dairy types level at 113.4p and beef at 126.8p, with top prices of £1255 paid for a Holstein Friesian from Harelaw and £1325 for a Salers paid respectively.
Texels from R and M Struthers, Collielaw, again topped the prime lamb section when a pen of 46kg lambs made 226p per kg. Lead price per head was £105.50, again for Texels from R Reid, Bengal. The overall average was 186p.
It was Texels that led the cast sheep too, at £143.50 for ewes form Croft and £134.50 for rams from West Lethans.
Included at the weekly prime sheep sale, the annual show and sale of Suffolk-sired lambs on behalf of the West and Central Scotland Suffolk Sheep Club, saw an entry of 15 pens forward for the judge, Lance Armstrong, who found his champion winners in a pen of 49kg lambs from WP Currie, Blackbog, Hamilton, that later sold for £100.50. The reserve pen, from A Smellie, Kailzie Mains, Peebles, scaled 50kg and realised £98.50.

Ayr
ON MONDAY, Craig Wilson sold 1756 prime and cast sheep which was topped by a Texel lamb from A Currie, Fisherton at £105.
Top price per kg was 209.3p paid on two occasions, firstly for two Texels from John Hutton and Son, Laigh Corton and then for another two of the same breed from A and B McHarg, Broadhead. The overall average was 183.8p.
All classes were slightly harder to cash amongst the 543 cast sheep which saw 189 light ewes average £51.40 and 349 heavies at £76.40. Top price was £126.50 paid for two Texel ewes from A Johnston, Meikle Carleith.
The firm’s prime and cast cattle sale on Tuesday saw 14 heifers average 222.3p or £1204.95, with a top price of 237p paid for a Limousin heifer from Borland and £1445.70 for the same animal.
Young bulls peaked at £1120 for an Angus from Ballochmartin or 125.6p for a Limousin from East Barr, with the six entries averaging 115.1p.
A large entry of beef cows saw 76 level at 133.7p and 88 dairy types at 108.6p. Leading the former at £1220 was a Limousin from Holehouse, Ochiltree or 186.4p for a Charolais from St Ninians.
The latter saw a Friesian from Cochno make 158.7p and £1000.

Dingwall
CHAROLAIS from Easter Sheep Park came out on top at Dingwall and Highland Marts sale of 36 prime cattle at Dingwall on Tuesday, attracting most of the top prices.
These topped the bullocks with a 625kg entry which made 224.0p or £1400, while a 560kg Charolais from the same home led the heifers per kg at 224.0p. A 615kg Limousin cross from Bridgend produced the lead price per head amongst the heifers at £1451.40. Overall, two bullocks averaged 206.2p with 34 heifers cashing in at 225.7p. 
In keeping with the national trend, the entry of 204 new season lambs saw averages slip 17.1p on the year to average 192.8p. Top price was 206.9p per kg or £90.00 for a pair of 43.5kg Beltex cross lambs from Kinnahaird Farm, Contin. Texel crosses from Udale, Poyntzfield, scaling 46kg also sold for £90.00.
SQQ 36.5kg to 45.5kg (175) averaged 193.4p (-16.6p).
Ewes and feeding sheep (24) averaged £55.92 having sold to £99.00 for a Bluefaced Leicester ram from Milton Farm, Aberarder.

Castle Douglas
WALLETS Marts sold 1081 prime and cast sheep at their weekly sale on Tuesday, where 908 lambs sold to £105.50 for a pen of Suffolk crosses from D Porteous and Son, Barbershall and 227.8p for Texel crosses from NJ Van Zwanenberg, Barlocco. The overall sale averaged levelled at 187.4p per kg or £77.89 per head.
Ewes and rams (173) averaged £60.50, selling to £101 for Texel crosses from High Borgue.

Newton Stewart
ON WEDNESDAY, Craig Wilson sold 670 prime and cast sheep, where the 450 new season lambs again sold cheaper on the week to average 178.6p per kg.
Top price per head was £100 paid for Texel lambs from A McColm, Crailloch, with the same breed from I Douglas, Barlaughlan leading the pence per kg at 191.3p.  
Well fleshed ewes peaked at £117 for Texels from Messrs Foryth, Baltier. By the end of the day, 116 light ewes averaged £41.13 and 97 heavies at £70.23.
