Stirling (UA)
LIMOUSIN crosses from Crofthead led the price per kg section at United Auctions’ sale of 395 store cattle, last week, where a 331kg bullock realised 244.7p per kg and a 309kg heifer sold for 236.2p. 
Limousin crosses also topped the gross trade at £1340 for a 662kg bullock from Goddens and £1075 for a 576kg heifer from High Craig. The 228 bullocks levelled at 204.26p while 123 heifers averaged 201.9p. 
The 44 dairy-bred bullocks averaged 134.37p having sold to 147.5p from Lodgehill and £745 from Temples. 
The cast cow entry was headed up by Limousin crosses at 194.6p from West Meikle Pinkerton and £1390 from Greenshields. The 82 beef-bred cows averaged 125.1p while nine dairy cows levelled at 92.2p, having sold to 124.6p and £755 for a Holstein from Claylands.

A MIXED offering of 499 store cattle met a good trade at Harrison and Hetherington, last week, where a British Blue cross bullock from Messrs Charlton, Crown Point, Penrith, led at £1320. 
Heifers reached £1300 for a Charolais cross from Messrs Dobson, West End, Maryport, with dairy sorts to £970 from Messrs Slack, Newby.

AT its fortnightly sale of store cattle, Hope’s Auction Co saw trade remain strong for the 173 on offer as the sale peaked at £1325 for a Limousin cross bullock from Messrs Barnes, Hutton Roof. 
Heifers reached £1255 for Limousins from Messrs Wilson, Wheyrigg Farm. 
A shortage of cows met a rising trade as the 21 reached 127.5p per kg for a Friesian from Messrs Fisher, Dufton House, and £960.83 for a Holstein from Messrs Marrs, Broomhills Farm.

A PEN of six Simmental heifers weighing 274kg from Cairntack, Belhelvie, led Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ sale of 114 store cattle when they hit 240.9p per kg. 
Heifers (42) also reached £1220 for a trio of Aberdeen-Angus weighing 586kg from Wester Manbeen, Elgin, and averaged 200.5p. 
Bullocks (59) levelled at 207.6p, and were topped by Charolais at 238.3p for a 428kg pair from Crannabog, Rothienorman, and £1305 for a 610kg entry from Stonyford, Tarland. 
Breeding cattle (59) saw females peak at £1620 for an Aberdeen-Angus cross heifer with bull calf from Wester Manbeen, with bulls to £2000 for a Limousin from Coulterfanny, Tyrie.

AT Caledonian Marts’ sale of 246 store cattle, on Monday, the Charolais breed led the bullock trade when one from Gilmour Farms, New Peninver, made 241p per kg and another from A McKenzie and Partners, Ardgate, realised £1100, as bullocks levelled at 207p. 
Aberdeen-Angus heifers from CML Grazings, Stirling, topped the gross trade at £1170 as heifers, which averaged 196p, also hit 208p for Limousins from Messrs Harrower, Craigievern. 
Black and whites averaged 151pp, selling to 164p for a pen from Glenside Farms.

TRADE looked sharper for all classes at C and D Auction Marts’ sale of 183 store cattle, on Monday. 
Averaging 203.9p per kg, the 78 bullocks sold to £1090 for British Blues from Gimmenbie while 86 heifers levelled at 191p and sold to £1000 for Limousins from Beechgrove. The 19 Holstein bullocks averaged 130p.

A PLAINER show of 170 breeding cattle met an easier trade at Craig Wilson, on Tuesday, where two Limousin heifers with bull calves at foot from Pennymore topped the entry at £2450 as 30 heifers with calves averaged £1548.33. 
Simmentals with a bull and heifer calf each from East Moorhouse led the cow and calf trade at £1800, as the 83 levelled at £1075.
Averaging £768.88, nine in-calf cows sold to £1020 for a British Blue from Guiltree while 39 bulling heifers averaged £771.28 and peaked at £1040 for a Limousin from Bridgend. 
Levelling at £1639.17, it was a Beef Shorthorn from Meadowbank that headed up the nine bulls at 2600gns.
